Nothing like knifing your friend in the back, eh? This fits with the 'scaling-back' of the joint exercises planned for the fall.
Paper Details Obama Admin’s Alleged Secret Note Sent to Iran: If Israel Attacks, We Won’t Get Involved

The Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot published a startling report Monday detailing a message it says was conveyed by the Obama administration – via two European countries – to Iranian officials. The request: if Israel decides to strike Iranian nuclear facilities, the U.S. will not support it and the Islamic Republic should refrain from retaliating on U.S. military installations in the Persian Gulf.
From the report by the well-connected diplomatic correspondent Shimon Schiffer [translated via hard copy by TheBlaze in Israel]:
The message that the U.S. conveyed to Iran via the most sensitive secret channels is unequivocal: if Israel attacks, we won’t stand behind her and we won’t be drawn into war.
In recent days, senior American administration officials turned to their Iranian counterparts via two countries in Europe which act as a back-channel during times of crisis. They made clear to the Iranians that the U.S. does not intend to be sucked into a campaign if Israel decides to strike unilaterally and without advance coordination [with the U.S.], and they said that they expect from Iran that it will not attack strategic American targets in the Persian Gulf. That means, among other things, Army bases, Navy ships and aircraft carriers sailing in the region.
Accompanying the article, the newspaper created a graphic map (pictured above) of various U.S. assets in the region including troops in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia as well as U.S. vessels in the Gulf.

Nothing that this cabal does surprises me anymorre. Pray for our country, that we may come to our senses and defend Israel. :banghead:
-
Every ally we have should be paying rapt attention. With Democrats in power, no agreement with the US is worth the paper its printed on.
-
It actually makes sense, this is not a matter of us defending Israel, but of not letting Israel make foreign policy decisions for us. They don't have anyone on the ground in places bordering Iran, we do. If they want to attack the Iranians, fine with me, but that doesn't mean we want to go immediately to 'Game on' with them ourselves. Locking into backing up anything they choose to do on their own is darkly reminiscent of how the Imperial German support of Austria-Hungary's aggressive response to Serbian terrorism dragged the world into cataclysm.
It's not really 'Defending Israel' when the question is whether to pile on whoever they choose to attack. If they do attack Iran, I'm sure we'll end up giving them plenty of actual defensive support for their own air defense and intelligence systems, but not active armed combat committing US forces overtly on their behalf outside Israeli borders.
BTW, this stance also gives the Israelis complete freedom to act on their own without having to take us into it (And risk Obama Administration leaking the strike plans), so it also in a sense greenlights their strike. It's all in the viewpoint of the people relating the story as to how one wants to take it, but strategically and diplomatically, it's the correct position to take.
-
I say we do a Bush, and let Israel attack Iran to 'Punish' them. Then if Iran attacks back, we then go in and decimate Iran. Of course, you know that Barry will side with Iran instead, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he did. After all, he needs to support 'HIS' own people.
-
It actually makes sense,
I could see your case with anyone other than Obama in office.
But traditional common sense doesn't exist with this administration. This is the president who turned down the "Kill" Osama mission three times.

That's a fair point, but I think this is one the State and Defense Departments ghost-wrote and slipped under the door for signature while Valerie Jarrett was in the bathroom. More seriously, though, her and Obama's (To the extent he ever manages to entertain an independent thought on the subject of foreign relations or defense) real bias is always to 'No action,' and this could be characterized that way, so I see it being sold to the White House on that basis.

Romney better eat him alive over this weak assed groveling.
Dear Lord he makes Clinton look like a neocon.

No signal should have been sent to Iran. They should be kept guessing as to our response, forcing them to consider the worst case for them.

Obama wants them to know they will be safe from US attacks if they retaliate against Israel but don't target US assets in the area.

On the other hand, now the iranians know the massive buildup in the Persian Gulf was just for show.
I agree with former lurker. This is fodder for Romney. Stabbing Jewish allies in the back, sending secret messages to our enemy, Iran. No other president is unable to confuse allies with enemies.

In the words of the new generation, this is a cluster fu*k. a circle jerk and totally screwed up. And here we bitch about Assuage and his leaks of what is going on, If we the American public knew what was really going on in Obamas plans, we would man the torches and pitch forks and storm the White House.
This is no confusion of allies and enemies, Obama is the enemy, he has driven away most of our friends and allies. We have a Wolfe in sheep's clothing in our midst, totally corrupt and came from out of the blue. He just may be the 666 the Bible speaks of, darn but he scares the pants off us.

I should have been clearer. When has a president done this?

I should have been clearer. When has a president done this?
That was kind of my point. I don't think any other president has committed treason.
-

There have been historians who have wondered if Roosevelt's stationing of (deliberately?) sitting ducks at Pearl Harbor should not be called "treasonous."
I wrote a few days ago that BIG BRObama has already telegraphed his lack of support of Israel:
http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php/topic,77510.msg941000.html#msg941000 (http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php/topic,77510.msg941000.html#msg941000)
Such a memo would be entirely consistent with MAObama's hatred of Israel...despite the usual denials.

And guess what? It doesn't matter.
Iran could strike US bases if Israel attacks: Hezbollah
By Laila Bassam
BEIRUT | Mon Sep 3, 2012 6:35pm EDT
(Reuters) - Iran could hit U.S. bases in the Middle East in response to any Israeli strike on its nuclear facilities even if American forces played no role in the attack, the leader of Lebanon's Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah said on Monday.
"A decision has been taken to respond and the response will be very great," Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said in an interview with the Beirut-based Al Mayadeen television.
"The response will not be just inside the Israeli entity - American bases in the whole region could be Iranian targets," he said, citing information he said was from Iranian officials. "If Israel targets Iran, America bears responsibility."
Heightened Israeli rhetoric about Tehran's nuclear facilities, which the West says could be part of a weapons program, has stoked speculation that it may attack Iran before U.S. elections in November.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged world powers on Sunday to set a "clear red line" to convince Iran they would prevent it from obtaining nuclear arms.
See, DUmb****s? All of that knifing of Israel in the back for nothing.

Obama didn't say or do a damn thing when Ahmedinnerjacket was killing his own people (like Neda) in the streets in '09. No way he would intervene for the Israelis.
-
If the Romney campain doesn't use this to hammer Obama with how Israel has been our friend for years the you can bet they will lose in November.
-
... and Chamberlain smiles.
Nevelle ? For enabling Hitler ? How did I get lumped in with that by advancing the position that our potential response to a conflict with Israel shouldn't be pre emptively released, thus forcing our adversary to consider the worst ? That's not placating. That's not appeasement unless someone can explain differently.

I am referring to Obama groveling - don't attack our bases cause we are cool with you nonsense.
I honestly missed your post, but read DAT's first post then thundley's summary of what the messiah is doing.
The EU can speak to how well diplomacy works with Iran. This administration and history is like oil and water.

If the Israelis attack, the odds are that one should look for it during two of the darkest nights in the next months: mid-September or mid-October.
Are people paying attention to this? Probably not, or so it seems to me, until gasoline hits $15.00 a gallon during the panic which will ensure in the aftermath.
In the short-run deterring an Israeli attack seems the smart thing to do, but we know that allowing an "Islamic bomb" is strategically suicidal. A quick and massive wave completely crippling any Iranian response is the only possible medicine here, but do the Israelis have the firepower?
Reports came out that - in typical fashion - the MAObama regime was "favorably disposed" toward Israeli requests for bunker-buster bombs and refueling takers...but were such weapons ever sold or delivered to the Israelis?
"Diplomatic cables exposed by the WikiLeaks website exposed discussion concerning advanced weapons shipments. In one cable which surveyed defense discussions between Israel and the United states that took place on November 2009 it was written that "both sides then discussed the upcoming delivery of GBU-28 bunker busting bombs to Israel, noting that the transfer should be handled quietly to avoid any allegations that the USG is helping Israel prepare for a strike against Iran."
So BIG BRObama is willing to sell the Israelis the stuff...but not to let them use it! O-)
