Title: Netflix - Gay agenda
Post by: Gina on September 01, 2012, 04:31:46 PM
Netflix - I just called them because in the movie genre's there is Gay & Lesbian as a subgroup.  I called them to ask how to get rid of that because I don't like my kids seeing the titles and I frankly don't want to see that crap.  They told me that someone high up made the decision that there are like 6 subgroups that you are forced to look at whenever you scroll through the movies.  1) Horror 2) Independent 3) Gay & Lesbian 4) Action Adventure 5) Science Fiction etc.

What do I do besides cancelling?

There is a ton of liberal garbage on Netflix.

I don't know if there's a way to block it.  I don't see that option online when I look at my account.

Found it.  Log on to your account online and do the following

Your Account > Taste Preferences > Category > Cultures :whatever: > Gay and Lesbian > Never

What do I do besides cancelling?

Cancel.

If you use the streaming option, I've been really happy with using Amazon Prime to stream videos.  You'll have to take a look at whether they carrying the shows you want or not, but switching might be an option.

I don't use netflix much because the service in Canada sucks imo, but when I went on the other night I saw this as a group of movies and could only think "really?".

Of all the other groups they could have used they chose that one?

I will have to try that and see if it removes it.

I don't think it did.  It still shows up as a sub-genre, but it's not on the main screen (if it was there originally).

It doesn't.  As I said, I called customer service and the woman apologized profusely and even said that would piss her off too but someone higher up made the decision to nestle Gay & Lesbian between Sports and Thrillers.  They have like 8 permanent listings and Gay & Lesbian is among them.

Outside of out-and-out pron, how many movies could you lump in there?  Brokeback Mountain is the only one that comes to mind.  Kissing Jessica Stein, maybe.  I can't think of any others.

Darn that gives my generation a run for its money.    All I can say about the porno movies is it keeps the watchers at home.

My beef is with the hacker slashing movies that has for no reason or story line any real reason for it.  Just disturbed individuals that decide to kill people for no reason.

Truly amazing the number of people that will pay to watch others die.  The innocents attacked and blood and gore.  What is it with humans that delight in carnage ??  Is it the like cartoon area that one is dead but pops up alive in the second reel ?

Porn movies have no blood or death just a really lousy sound track with the same music. Nothing exciting happens, all is rather dull you know what to expect--big deal.

Now I would not  as some do allow children to to watch either movie, when they get old enough to get a job, let them buy their own.

An Adult that is addicted  with the Horror films or the Porno's let them spend their money on watching and fantasising. But humans under the age of 18 do not need to be raised on this stuff.  it is hard enough for an Adult to understand the world without expecting a 4 year old sitting next to you to understand your movie of choice.

Allot of you may disagree, somehow you think a young child can differentate a movie from reality.   Lots of Luck.

You can remove the category. Getting to the page where it can be dismantled is not easy. Heres a link that should take you there. I got tired of looking at it as well. remove (http://movies.netflix.com/TastePreferences?groupId=11)

I didn't do that but after my call to Netflix where the woman told me they couldn't remove it, it did disappear just one day.  I don't know where it went but it hasn't been back.  But after watching "I love you Phillip Morris" it will probably pop back as hubby said.  He saw it in my listing and goes "No wonder we got the gay movies"   :lmao:

Thank you Gina for posting this online!!! I just got Netflix, and my fiance and I moaned when we saw that category. Was going to cancel Netflix if I couldn't remove it. Followed the suggestion  about accounts, and cultures, and never, and so far it's off my main screen and my Roku. Wanting to remove the Gay & Lesbian category comes up instantly on all engine searches, which means it is a popular question. The majority of us are burned out on having the "alternative lifestyle" thrown at us on TV, in elections, and online. I think it creates more homophobia if not downright hatred to be honest. Respect and tolerance has to work both ways for it to be successful.  ::)

At the risk of reopening an old topic I just had to sign up to let you all know how I figured out how to block this from appearing in the Genres drop-down menu once and for all.

Here are the steps you need to do: (note that this will block the genre this for everyone that uses Netflix from this browser)

See the attached images for aid in the directions.

Mind you if they ever change their web site code or agid to something else, you'll have to do this again. You'll also have to do this on any other browsers that are on the same or different computer.

P.S. for power users you can simply go to the AdBlock Options and under Customize add this line to the manually edited filters:
movies.netflix.com##A[href="http://movies.netflix.com/WiGenre?agid=5977"]

Hope that helps!

Yeah, I know, there is not much we can do about that.
That's why I went and got myself an old Mac mini to connect to my TV instead of an Apple TV or something else. I can have more control over what is being pushed on me.

Does your Mac mini have a Blue-Ray player? :-)

My Netflix portal is a Blue-Ray player that supports Netflix, YouTube, and a couple other apps.  It's not very customizeable.

Actually… Yes!

It does all that you mention and more, plus very customizable.
