When your entire ideology is centered on life being unfair, powerless, dependent and victimized the outcomes are as predictable as Laffer Curve.
And yet...

Not sure I can live in the world.

Been depressed for most of my life. Been in and out of schools and jobs more times than I can count. Have been a shut-in living with my parents for the past 6+ months, barely leave the house. Going back to school in Sept but don't have much hope really. I've posted my full story here before. Anyway I'm just not sure I can live in the world
Note: I didn't mean this to sound suicidal, sorry to worry people about that. I have been somewhat suicidal in the past but I am not currently. Just really really depressed.

17. You should check out CBT therapy if you haven't already
The big problem with depression is that it becomes a self-fufilling prophesy. When you convince yourself you are a failure it leads you to stop trying. When you stop trying you don't even have the opportunity to succeed. So you get into a cycle you can't escape.
SSRIs and SNRIs have good efficacy, especially in the short term, but they don't really offer very good long term solutions. If the drugs stop working or you stop taking them, the depression often comes back.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) has been shown to have very good efficacy for major depression which rivals if not exceeds SSRIs and SNRIs. The really good part is that when it works, it offers long term solutions because it actually trains your brain to think differently. The hard part with CBT is getting started. It's not just one of those things you can see a therapist for once a month or so and forget the rest of the time. You actually have to work at it yourself in order to be successful. It's rather like physical therapy. A physical therapist can show you the exercises, but you have to do them on your own if you want to be successful. However, once you get the hang of it the exercises become easy (it's not as if they are that hard to start with).
At any rate I wish you the best luck with your treatment even though it's been hit and miss in the past. I know what you're going through and I know how hard it is to crawl out of it.

Liberalism is the antithesis of CBT

And the rest of the thread is them running around making appeals to rugged individualism (ironic) or tapping into that awesome Canadian health system (pointless).

CBT....Cock & Ball Torture....which for DUmmies is probably better than ..... Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

It seems like so many DUmmies and liberals in general seem to be depressed. This brings up the question in my mind, are they depressed because of their beliefs, or are they drawn to liberalism because they are depressed?
I can imagine if I was a liberal there is plenty of reasons that their beliefs would depress me. For example when one is looking for an outside source to provide every need for them and to guide them in every decision in their life without them having to actually do anything, one would be depressed just because their life sucks so bad. Instead of going out and trying to better their own lives they sit at home and gripe that there aren't enough freebies. That is a recipe for depression if you ask me.
For those who are depressed already, they seek out a belief system where nothing is their fault, and someone else is responsible for fixing them. Once again they have to do nothing for themselves.
So maybe it is a combination of the two. I know some conservatives suffer from depression and go through tough times, but the difference I see is the conservative is willing to do something to try to change it, not just sit there and demand that someone else do it for them. For example one of us loses our job, we may go through a brief period of being down, but we quickly start thinking of ways that we can find another job, maybe start a business, or whatever. We don't sit at home and demand more and more unemployment benefits year after year. If we do take any of the benefits we only do so while trying to find a way to return to independence.

I would argue the former because of the sense of superiority we so aften see from them.
Ask them and they will tell you:
We're smarter. We're more compassionate. We're devoid of hate. We're morally better people. We deserve this. You owe us.
Which in turn evolves to:
The only way you won is because you cheated. I know you're cheated because you lie us into war. I know you lie us into war because you cheat.
And on to:
You're racist. You are a misogynist. You plunder. You steal. You support wars of aggression to prop-up decaying empires that stand in the way of a better world. You steal elections. If only the proles would see. The lies. FOX news. Truth is lost. Voting is pointless. Poverty goes on. They always get away with it. Outsmarted by bigoted morons. We can't win...
...life sucks.

There is very little cognitive about Progressive Liberalism.

Agree. Demanding fairness, in an unfair world, is a certain path to disappointment.

My vote is for neither. Occam's razor, this DUmmie is looking to get on the SSDI gravy train.

I'm a happy pessimist.
I assume the worst will happen.
Either I'm prepared or things turn out better than I expected.

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
