I have read that Muslims had it better in the Soviet Union. Granted, they have their differences. Many Communists, like Nazis, did sympathize with Muslims. There have been alliances between Islamists and Communists terrorism. When you think about it, Communists, Nazis, Fascists, Socialists, and Islamists share the same goals.

The Russians, British, Germans, French, and even the US have all tried to use Muslim jihadists for their own international political games at one time or another, all the way back to the days of Katherine the Great. They have almost universally proved to be a dangerous tool at best, of course the Great Powers themselves are also universally dangerous and unreliable friends.
