Oh my.
I'm sure that some here might remember the travails of dear cali last December, when three months after having broken her leg, she was still in considerable pain, during which time Vlada Mitty offered condolences and franksolich offered practical advice:
"bitter old Vermontese cali primitive being driven nuts"

Well, apparently dear cali's still in pain, which might go a long way in explaining her recent choleric bad moods.

Anyone got some advice about pain medication?
I'm not asking for a medical opinion, just personal ones from experience.
I ****ing hate, hate, hate morphine. Yes, it dulls the pain, but it makes me sick to my stomach and miserable. I'm on a combination of percocet and morphine and I hate it. How the **** anyone can like taking this shit is beyond me.
Nothing I've taken completely kills the pain and now I'm not allowed to use Ibuprophen anymore because it caused too much bleeding during my last surgery.
I've tried wrapping ground up cabbage stuffed in a stocking and wrapped around my foot and ankle. I'm using this nerve stimulator thing.
Why can't they just ****ing invent a good pain relief medication?

1. have they tried lyrica?
i have fibro, and also have some nerve damage from herniated discs. the lyrica is very useful for neuropathies. not perfect, but i would say 80% improvement.
also take arthrotec for pain that is above and beyond the normal. helped a lot when i broke my ankle last year, and is great for headaches.
best of luck to you. pain sucks.
^^^the hypochondrial primitive; she's had every affliction and disease known to mankind, including hemophilia and prostrate problems.

4. thanks for the suggestion. I'll bring it up.
I'm waiting on an appointment at a pain clinic at either Dartmouth-Hitchcock or Fletcher Allen- whichever can see me first and I've been referred to a specialist in Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

6. A lot of us wish that.
The nausea from the morphine eventually fades, but that's about the time you're getting dependent on the stuff and will have to taper it down rather than quit cold turkey when it's time.
I always explained to my patients that nothing kills the pain completely. Opiates just dull it enough that they could cope with rehab and then have the pain settle down quickly when they returned to bed.
If you've got any sort of healing incision in the area, I'd get rid of the cabbage. Anything that creates a warm, moist environment near broken skin is just asking for infection.
My own problem is chronic pain that has lasted for years and will be with me for the rest of my life. My own balance is just enough pain control that I can function, not so much that I'm oblivious (although that seems attractive from time to time). I use Ultram because I don't get mentally foggy from it and a TENS unit when my back locks up.
ETA: explore with your doctor whether or not another opiate or semisynthetic opiate will work better than morphine. Methadone has been used very successfully for pain control and doesn't tend to fog you up. In any case, a good pain control specialist has many more things at his disposal so there is some light at the end of your very painful tunnel.

8. This is going to sound like woo-woo, but some people do get some relief from acupuncture.
It's not the first place I'd go, but you're running out of options.

9. It can help
It didn't do anything for my fibro but it got rid of a migraine and pain from a car crash in 5 minutes. And I'm the world's biggest skeptic when it comes to that stuff.

12. This may bring some hate mail, but are you in a state where medical marijuana is legal? I have personally witnessed amazing transformations in both dealing with pain and side effects from many medications.

She's gonna be swamped in PMs from other DUmpmonkeys begging to buy her stash of morphine and Percocets.
Since being shitcanned over the earwig scandal, she's been unemployed.
This pain thing is a scam to help her cash in on the Social Security disability gravy train.
-
She's full of shit. If she is really seeing a pain specialist, which I doubt, they have 100's of options when it comes to pain medication. :mental: Morphine my ass. :argh:

Dear cali's kind of, uh, not being quite honest here.
She doesn't really care about her leg getting better; like all other primitives, she's just really interested in getting drugs.
Now, I've busted a lot of bones in my life, but I really have no idea what sort of pain dear cali's going through.
You got a reasonably healthy and robust male on this side, and an old woman on that side.
You got franksolich, who slurps up a lot of calcium every day, and dear cali, who probably doesn't.
You have one person--this side--who has a healthy, positive outlook on life and people, and you have one person--that side--who's a bitter angry old lady, full of rage and hate against all that is good and decent.
Other than her age and sex, which are reasonable excuses for having problems with broken bones, I suspect that if dear cali simply acquired a better outlook about people and things, many of her problems would go away in short order.

Our stupid for-profit healthcare system will never recognize cole slaw therapy.

But that's the sorts of remedies the primitives'll have to use, with "free medical care for all."
Maybe dear cali's practicing for when that day happens.

Don't suggest a brand name non narcotic medication to a DUmmy, that is a waste of time! :rotf:
mopinko must be on Medicaid, as they are about the only insurance company that pays for Lyrica! There are less expensive options out there that have the same results in most patients.

You have to sign a contract with a pain clinic that you only see them for pain, especially when it comes to medication.
She is either lying or they have not pulled a DEA report on her yet. You can't get multiple narcs from multiple doctors, that is a crime.
I go with she is a liar.

Coach, you are suggesting that she does something that is against every cell in your body. It would be like preforming an exorcism.

Well, exorcism--expulsion--of the demons plaguing dear cali might not be a bad idea.
There's some bad stuff in her system she really needs to get out of her.
I'm not of course suggesting the classic exorcism, with cross, candle, incense, and all that (I have however for the longest time suggested one particular primitive as being in need of that sort of exorcism, the classic exorcism, and trust me, it would do that primitive good).
Dear cali needs only some sort of really strong purgative, medical, surgical, pharmaceutical, or psychoanalytical, the stuff that's usually done, although admittedly on cases less severe than dear cali's.
On cases as severe as dear cali's, the solution's usually a lobotomy, but I wouldn't want to go that route; try this other stuff, first.
Forgive the crudity, the coarseness, of the analogy, but the way dear cali is, it's as if she's got a 60-year-old piece of shit inside of herself that's grown to the size of a watermelon, and no matter how hard she strains, it won't come out.
I really apologize for that analogy, but it fits dear cali to a tee.
She's got something big and bad inside of her, and quite obviously the laxatives (her anger, her hate, her rage, her bitterness) she's used aren't helping get it expulsed.
Again, I really apologize for that analogy, but it fits dear cali to a tee.

Not from personal experience, but I highly suggest you buy a big bottle of Tylenol. Beta-blockers will work wonders for you, primitive. Just pop about a hundred of them then lay down and take a nap.

cali ...Why can't they just ****ing invent a good pain relief medication?...
I assume that the magical invention process in pharma works like any other industry - they need to have evil profits that can be re-invested in R&D to develop future products. If there is no profit then there is nothing to re-invest. If there is no hope of future profits then fudiciary reposibility says that rather than investing current profits in future product development the current profits should be either put to some other use that generates a profit or should be returned to the shareholders. Of course, both of these options are rather poor long term options since they starve the future product pipeline...
Unintended consequences are a b****h...

Of course DUmmies lie, all the time, but still it gives me a warm, happy feeling to read about a DUmpmonkey suffering serious pain.

Maybe this calls for a house call from "Theodoric of York" ? He could work some of his medieval bloodletting magic.

Naah . . . a 4" firehose enema would do the trick.

It's all going to be fine DUches. l0rd 0bama just signed an EO concerning pain reform. Pain is now longer legal and will be penaliz...er taxed at 20% of your income.

You'd probably need more like a 40" line to even come close to touching the sides of such a massive asshole.

Naah . . . a 4" firehose enema would do the trick.
You see my point, though, I hope.
Dear cali's trying to use her hate, her rage, her bitterness, as a "laxative" to purge herself.
She doesn't understand that rage, hate, and bitterness is a constipator.

Wait a minute, is Cali the one who hurt her ankle or leg and instead of dragging her ass upstairs to get the phone she dragged it up the street to a neighbor's house?
That was forever ago wasn't it?

Yeah, it was in December 2011 that she first told us of this, although the busted leg had happened three months earlier than that.
However, I still disagree with just about everybody else here; I think that if dear cali'd tried to pull herself up the stairs to get to the telephone, she would've done even more damage.
Of course, she then dragged herself--three miles or something; it was far more than just "up the street"--to get help, but still if it'd been me, I would've done that.
The difference of course being that franksolich is a social animal, other people always coming over to see him, I probably wouldn't have had to drag myself anywhere near that far, someone by chance coming for a visit before I'd barely get past the front yard.
But dear cali, bless her heart, is anti-social, hates people, doesn't get along with people, and so nobody probably ever goes up that isolated road on the roof of Vermont to visit her.....and so the odds of her getting help before she crawled the whole distance were.....nil.

It's called doctor shopping.
I have sent patients out the door in hand cuffs because of it.
It's sad to see.

LC, I'm talking about 3,000 psi out of that firehose.
And yeah, Coach, I see what you're saying. It's too bad.

When I was under a pain management contract, it stated that you were allowed to have pain medication while in the hospital (eg shot or pill)...you just couldn't accept a prescription for pain medication. You also had to disclose to the hospital that you were a pain management patient, and tell them to contact your pain doctor as well as your family doctor.
