Title: Worst Canadian Band/Artist EVER?
Post by: NHSparky on August 26, 2012, 11:33:26 AM
After hearing, "Baby, Baby, Baby" in WalMart for the second day in a row, after pulling the ice picks from Camping and Sporting Goods out of my ears, I had to question the musical prowess of our northern "brethren."  Granted, most everything coming from north of the 49th parallel/Great Lakes sucks ass, but there's some that just, well, SUCKS.

To that end, I leave you this.

Discuss.

H5 for "Teh JOOOOOOOOOOS!" answer, though I didn't pick that.  I said "Justin Bieber."  I actually like some of Byran Adams' stuff--"Summer of '69" is a good song.

I know, I know . . . I should have picked Celine. :thatsright:

I've never heard a Justin Beiber song, so I'll have to vote for Celine Dion.

They are two great artists, indeed. I like them both. They were a staple on the 80's, which (next to the 70's) produced some of the best music ever written.

Bryan Adams is also pretty good.

Other bands from Canada are Rush, Gordan Lightfoot, Shania Twain, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and The Guess Who.

Who do you like? I have a very eclectic taste in music. I listen to pretty much all of it, except Hip Hop, Teenie Boppers, and some Rap.  :-)

I am a huge Megadeth fan myself. I been listening to them since the mid 80's. Black sabbath are pretty good also. My thing is that I grew up around music. My whole family was in bands, and I am currently in a band. With having that atmosphere, I was subjected to listening to all kinds of stuff. So, if it is music, and I like it, I will listen to it, no matter what genre it is.

what does they may have broke even to the water mean???

I had to look it up, couldn't remember the lyrics.

The line is, "They might have broke deep and took water."

Does any one know where the love of God goes
when the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
if they'd put fifteen more miles behind 'er.
They might have split up or they might have capsized;
they may have broke deep and took water.
And all that remains is the faces and the names
of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

what does they may have broke even to the water mean???

Quote
"...They might have split up or they might have capsized

they may have broke deep and took water...."

What it means is a wondering of how the ship sank. Usually when you hear the term 'broke deep and took water', it means that the ship went under water and broke off, then took water. Like what happen to the Titanic, when the bow filled with water causing the ship to sink nose first. They say that is the same thing might have happen to the Edmond Fitzgerald; as it was going threw the high waves and storm caused damage, water filled the cargo hauls in the bowls.

Loreena McKennitt, Rush, Neil Young, and Triumph are my favorites.

Triumph is a great progressive band.

Hi5. I dig Buble .. Then I always like the big band and crooning stuff. People like Tony Bennet, Mel Torme, Frank Sinatra, Perry Coma, Dean Martin, etc., etc.

I also love smooth Jazz ... There was a station out of Pittsburgh called JJJ, it was all jazz all the time. I used to love listening to it.

"Lay it on the Line" is one of my favorite 80s power ballads. The live performance in Halifax is da shit.

"Broke deep". Without looking up a definition, it's a nautical term having to do with an abnormal reaction of the bow. The bow is designed to break through the water, and the further it breaks into bigger waves, the more lift it produces to pitch the bow back up and out of the water. In certain conditions which depend on the height and interval of the wave as a ratio of the length of the boat, and the improper throttling of the boat,  a wave bigger than the bow can submerge it, while simultaneously a previous wave can be cresting on the stern, lifting it up, and pushing the bow even further down. Under just the right conditions an otherwise seaworthy vessel can power it's way right to the bottom. Note that even a larger size wave without the same wave interval will not produce the same result, or vice versa.

Gordon Lightfoot was communicating pretty good in that song. Most of the lyrics he got from the reports and scanner feeds. It is a great song.

Good song. Seen them in concert in the 80's with three friends. They were a brother, sister and cousin of each other. The brother fell off a roof taking down Christmas lights and died  young, the sister died at a zoo with her kids of an asthma attack at 30 years old and the cousin is in jail.....I'm the only one left!

I love the music but sometimes the songs bring back emotional memories for me. The brother and sister were great friends of mine, so was their cousin.

The worst: LOVERBOY.  I saw them at a "Day on the Green" a multiple band concert in Oakland Ca. The lead singer was so off they got booed off stage.

Even though Rush has DUmbass (Peart) views, I still like their classic albums.

I had a roommate in college who played Buffet non-stop -- yeah, I kind of hated him too after awhile.  He does do a decent version of The Dead's Scarlet Begonias that I can actually listen to but not much else.

The only song that is played over and over again of Buffett's is Margaritaville. The rest of his songs didn't get much. They are some really good songs. Then I am a self confessed parrot head. I saw him in concert about eight years ago, I was too drunk (From all the people at the tailgate giving out alcohol and food - I didn't have to take any food or alcohol with me) to remember most of it.

Buffet has tried to cross over to the country side of music.  His songs fit in with Kenny Chesney's style.

I voted other.

I haven't been subjected to any Justin Bieber "music" yet (perhaps when Obama declares Marshall Law :-) , they'll be playing it in the interrogation rooms at the FEMA re-education camps), so I cannot speak as to the torturous nature of it. Yet.

However, I used to like Shania Twain.  When her song I'm Gonna Getcha Good came on the radio last night, and I listened to it for the first time in God only knows how many years, I felt dirty.  Soiled. Like a mindless piece of meat.  I felt like Shania had reached through my radio speakers and sexually harasses me. :puke:

Not me.

I married my wife because in addition to being smoking hot, I had finally found a woman I didn't have to censor what I said or thought around her. She doesn't always agree with me, but I always enjoy talking with her about the differences in our point of view.

I couldn't be 5 minutes in a room with Shania Twain without needing a ball gag, or ear muffs.

And the funny thing is, I can't think of a single truly awful/annoying Aussie band/group, at least ones that have made it here.

Pretty much everything Aussie/Kiwi I've heard since the late 70's/early 80's I've liked--INXS, Men at Work, Silverchair, Jet, Midnight Oil, Chisel/Jimmy Barnes, Crowded House, and of course, AC/DC.

Pretty much everything Aussie/Kiwi I've heard since the late 70's/early 80's I've liked--INXS, Men at Work, Silverchair, Jet, Midnight Oil, Chisel/Jimmy Barnes, Crowded House, and of course, AC/DC.

I went to a Chisel concert late last year. That old bastard can still hold his own pretty well.

Yes, the Aussie bands are really good also. They all had a huge staple on music.

You forgot to mention the Bee Gees. They are from Australia and moved to England when they got their record deal.

He also forgot that midnight oil was rampantly anti-American and a bunch of eco-commies.

Their front-man, Peter Garrett is now "Education Minister" or some crap like and a virulent leftist scumbag. He was "Environment Minister" , but every time he opened his doucheflap about the environment, it was immediately followed by one of his feet so he was reassigned and told to shut the hell up.

Silverchair aren't any better. I used to call them "Nirvana in Pyjamas" - and I loathe Nirvana.

The last I heard Peter Garrett was a devout christian.

Edit: I just looked him up and he is a Christian Liberal. That is an oxymoron. You can't be a Liberal and Christian at the same time. The morals don't match.

Until you live in Canada an listen to the radio here you'll never truly understand. I would chose Bieber as the worst but I've only one heard him played on local radio, but Nikleback...  :argh:

I really, really can not stand them. I mean Nikleback is not the worst by any means, they're just the most annoying to me at this point in time.

Rush (the band) can GDIAF, in my opinion.

I don't know you, but we can't ever be friends now. Sorry.

Rush is one of the greatest bands in history. It is a shame the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame don't see that. Those morons who know nothing about music. As Eddie Trunk calls them: 'The Rock and Roll Hall of Shame' ..... They suck.

The Band was one of the greatest bands in history; all but Levon Helm were Canadian. So damn talented!

I agree. 'The Weight' is one my favorite songs. I shed a tear when Levon died.

It isn't just the gasta rap crap. A majority of the music that this country puts out now down right sucks. There is no talent in music anymore. It is all about marketability. Which is a shame.

If you like Aussie rock, a band you might want to check out would be Airbourne. They are an Aussie band that got big on the charts here thanks to Guitar Hero. 'Too much, too young, too fast' is the song they are most known for. If you close your eyes, you almost could belive it was a young Brian Johnson singing.
