The movie "2016"...
my repub friends are all over this and sending emails that it's being "sold out" all over the country.
I know, I know, it's playing to the base, but a swiftboat is a swiftboat.
I'd hoped today was going to feel like a positive day, but so far, not so much.
Googled it and mostly all I get is positive things and where it's showing.

2. It has grossed $142,000 - bwhahahahahahahah....
What a joke.

5. The Repubs. in congress put pressure on the makers of a movie about the killing of
bin Laden (which put Obama in a positive light) to put it off 'til after the election-and it worked-so they should've done the same to THIS "movie." They didn't.

7. Any way that we can get the Bin Laden movie out sooner?
What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the asshat or some such thing.

11. .
Theres enough idiots out there to fill out a couple theatres.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Koch brothers stuff the box office to make it seem like its more popular.

12. Movie 2012 IS sold out ...
It's a very interesting movie. Went and saw it. Completely packed. But it's showing only in 3 theaters in my Metro area. Why? Could be Hollywood doesn't want the message out there? Just sayin. D'nesh Desouza is brilliant.

18. Just found this. Discouraging.

"Bubbling under the Top 10 at number 13, the anti-Obama documentary 2016 Obama’s America expanded from 61 theaters into 169 locations, and increased its gross by 294 percent to $1.25 million. Tellingly, the film’s per theater average increased from $5,202 to $7,391 this weekend, a rare feat at the box office — but especially when a film’s theater count nearly triples. 2016 Obama’s America has grossed $2.1 million in six weeks, and if it maintains this sort of momentum, it could become a major sleeper hit. 21. It's all a matter of perspective
After six weeks in the theatres it has yet to make back it's cost and to date has grossed less than half of Atlas Shrugged - a true Hollywood bomb.
Still, there are plenty of Teabaggers out there that need a little sloppy propaganda to feel right about really hating America's first black President.
FLyellowdog (3,343 posts)
23. I know it's playing to the base
but I still hate that it's propaganda is out there for anyone to view...and they're PAYING to see it!
grantcart (35,623 posts)
19. the conservative Weekly Standard laughed it out of the movie theater.
Grant then posts a snippet of a "review" only problem is the review is from 2010, so that was before the movie was made and the review was the book.

22. Thanks. I needed that. nt

27. Ugh. My dad "liked" it on FB
I'm dreading his impending visit. Not that I can't avoid discussing politics like usual, it's Mrs. Solomon that's the worry. She's irate.

<Snippets>
The anti-Obama movie 2016 Obama’s America went into wider release around America today and is opening right now in first place at the domestic box office. That’s quite a feat since the Rocky Mountain Pictures political documentary is still playing in only 1,090 North American theaters – or about 1/3 as many theaters as big-budget actioner The Expendables 2 (3,355 theaters).
And, based on matinee trends, 2016 Obama’s America looks to gross $1.2M-$1.7M Friday for a $3.7M-$5.0M weekend
Both online ticket-sellers Fandango and MovieTickets.com showed advance buying for 2016 Obama’s America were accounting for 35% to 28% respectively before this weekend. The pic is based on conservative author and commentator Dinesh D’Souza’s New York Times bestselling 2010 book The Roots Of Obama’s Rage and co-directed by D’Souza and John Sullivan and produced by Academy Award winner Gerald R. Molen (co-producer of Schindler’s List). It opened on July 13th in a preview on a single screen in Texas grossing almost $32,000 during its opening weekend, then expanded into 61 theaters including New York and Los Angeles. In August, the film widened to 169 theaters nationwide and expanded again this weekend. “Yes, I also didn’t believe it when I first saw the film taking off in pre-sales on Tuesday,†an exhibition insider tells me. “Because there’s not a lot of new product that’s taking off.â€
Last weekend, 2016: Obama’s America grossed a strong $1.2M last weekend in 169 venues for a cumulative gross as of Thursday of $2.8M. It’s the #2 biggest indie documenatry of the year behind only The Weinstein Company’s Bully ($3.2 million) and already the #12 political documentary of all time. It will rise a lot higher in the rankings after this weekend.
From the comments section of the article:
A friend dragged me kicking and screaming to see the Obama movie–I was convinced it would be right-wing propoganda. It’s actually a well-made and persuasive argument that the guy I voted for in ’08 doesn’t deserve my support this time around. I’d be interested in what other Obama voters from ’08 think–not people who just want to sling talking points from the right or left, but people who have seen this movie and considered the case it makes.

I am life long Republican and voted for Reagan both Bushs and McCain but after reading concerned troll comments like Thinkingitover. I am convinced that Obama will lead the country in the right direction and will be voting Democrat for the first time this November.

You, Mr. Nowademocrat, are obviously a liar. I have NEVER heard of a life-long Republican who voted for all Republican candidates since Reagan, and who obviously believed in American exceptionalism and capitalism, becoming convinced that Obama would lead this nation in any direction except the road to ruin. No, you are a definitely a Democrat, and probably a left-wing extremist who believes that thinking Americans would believe such manure as you shoveled with your comment. “Troll comments What a joke, you are.

Not a single person that voted for McCain is now going to vote for Obama. So we know you are a liar. Obama is going to get fewer votes this election than he did in 2008. That is not in doubt. The only question is how many fewer.
Interesting historical note: no president has ever won re-election to a second term with fewer votes in than his first term. Think about it,

Anti-Obama Doc Drawing Big Crowds, Even in NY
<Snippet>
Some in Hollywood were stumped by the amount of business the documentary did at the Regal Union Square Stadium 14 in Lower Manhattan, situated in a liberal neighborhood where films from the likes of Moore have done huge business.
Obama’s America was the No. 3 film of the weekend behind The Dark Knight Rises and Total Recall at Union Square, prompting at least one film executive to joke that people must have thought it was a pro-Obama documentary (New York is the No. 1 city when it comes to the amount of giving to the Obama campaign).
Moreover, Union Square turned in the second-best gross of any theater in the country after a multiplex in Simi Valley.

Where in S.C. DUmmie, where? I'd drive a hundred miles to see it.

What was the movie that came out before one of the presidential elections that was very pro democrat the DUmmies cheered? I can't remember ... Was it Fahrenheit 9/11?

3. Call me
when 2016 gets one (1) Emmy
HBO has received 12 nominations for "Game Change," including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie (Woody Harrelson), Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie (Julianne Moore), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie (Ed Harris), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie (Sarah Paulson), Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special (Jay Roach) and Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special (Danny Strong). It's still one with multiple encore presentations.
Feature films and documentaries shown in theaters don't get Emmys, you DUmmie. Emmys are for TV, not for films.

You know, a lot of classic movies are getting turned into Broadway musicals so maybe a Tony sometime in the future.

Like "Seusical the Musical"?
"Obama the Drama"...

Bally, TY so much for posting this. I had to deal with some of my mom's health issues today, but when I got home, I saw countless people on Facebook rounding up friends to go see this. The left will be apoplectic tomorrow when they see it is the #1 movie in the country. I WILL make time to see it this weekend.

It isn't going to get anything, and this primitive knows it.
Academy awards are nominated and voted on by give or take 6000 Hollywood elites. Also, AMPAS keeps their membership secret, so there is no way to determine what the moonbat-to-human ratio is beforehand.
But I am certain it is "lopsided" at best. Probably at a ratio of at least 20:1

I wouldn't doubt your estimate, but I wouldn't doubt any estimate of more than 5 to 1. Libs only count for 20% of the population.

2. It has grossed $142,000 - bwhahahahahahahah....
That was done in limited release on a handful of screens in NYC and LA.
However...after just one day of release nationwide on over one THOUSAND screens we find that...
the Rocky Mountain Pictures’ documentary 2016 Obama’s America in third place. That’s stunning because it’s playing in a 1/3 less theaters across North American than the other wide release actioners.

Wonder how long before the MPAA tries to shut the movie down?
