My Florida Medicaid Cuts
So, I've written before about the fact that I am physically disabled and on SSI. In the telling, I detailed how vital Medicaid had become to my survival, and I'm not alone. Just about anyone who qualifies for disability has some sort of medical complication to deal with. Living in Florida, under Rick Scott and his the-poor-don't-matter legislature, life has become scary.
I received a letter out of the blue today from the body which administrates Medicaid. It informed me of the following cuts:
* Home health visits, currently allowed at 4 per day, are to be cut back to no more than 3 per day. You have appeal rights (good luck).
* Visits to primary care physicians are now limited to two per month. If you have a complicated condition requiring frequent care, **** you. In one small show of mercy, specialists were not included in this.
* Emergency room visits are now limited to 6 per fiscal year. Again, complicated condition? Too bad.
This may seem like small stuff from the outside, but it's a small step in the wrong direction. People who rely upon Medicaid have nothing. They are the poor, the disabled, the vulnerable. It's easy to do this to us because, on the whole, we have no voice. Everyone's focused on Medicare recipients.
I hate to say this, but at least this shit wasn't happening under Jeb. Now, we have people who think Medicaid cuts (and cuts to other supportive programs) should be deep, when they're already barely sufficient programs. I'm only 27, so I have many years ahead during which to be afraid. Will I not be able to get my medication? Will I end up on the streets, in withdrawal? It shouldn't be like this.

My Florida Medicaid Cuts
Welcome to the new obamacare, DUmbass.

Good find and stunning in what it reveals.
I edited your post to include the poster's name and the thread subject line. No major sin was committed leaving those out and I know harvesting those can be a PITA at times but we endeavor to include those for the sake of posterity.

27 years old and he's on disability already? This guy is a leech of the first order. He needs to be tossed out on his keester...Work or starve. :thatsright: only at DU would this guy be seen as a victim.
I wonder if he is keeping someone who is really disabled off the list.
I have no respect for this guy. Absolute scum. Probably an occupier.
Akoto, I'm calling you out. You are a liar who faked your disability.

What a sad life, this person is 27 and has what to look forward to?

It's the DUmmie dream. Free money for life. He probably has side jobs, but disability reroutes all sorts of free stuff his way.

I know a woman who went to work every day in great pain, and she probably put in more work than most people in that time.
I've limped to work on a broken leg, because my family needed a paycheck.
There are soldiers (and civilians) wounded in Iraq that lost an arm or a leg and went back after rehabilitating.
This 27 year old needs to get his big boy pants on and man up. He's in pain. Fine, I feel for him. That doesn't mean he should be a leech for the rest of his days.

I'm not sure we can presume he was referring to illegal drug usage when he mentioned fear of losing Medicaid coverage and therefore possibly becoming homeless and in withdrawal. I feel pretty sorry for him, if he's honestly disabled at 27 and in such poor health. Granted, I'd have zero sympathy if it wasn't what I'd consider a legitimate disability and actual illegal drug usage or oxy overuse.

Thank you! I try to always do that, but I was in a hurry to get the homemade pizza into the oven...as entertaining as the DUmmies are, hubby and son have to come first!

I've said it before and I will say it now, if one can sit and post at DU all day then one can work. If you can post on DU all day you can do data entry or something along those lines.

I'd rather not have one of "those" do any data entry about me.
