Three U.S. Marines were injured in a shooting south of Mexico City on Friday morning, a Mexican military official told CNN Mexico.
The motive behind the attack on the American servicemen, who were on a diplomatic mission, was not immediately known.
Unknown gunmen inside what was described as a Mexican federal police vehicle fired upon a U.S. Embassy vehicle that carried the U.S. servicemen, said the official, who declined to be named for security reasons.
The injured Marines were transported to a hospital in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

I'd bust out laughing at that if it weren't for the fact 3 marines were shot.

It's time to nuke Mexico. I'm only half kidding.

I believe it was Patton who said, "Our soldiers job is to make the other poor dumb bastards give their life for their country".

Patton = Army.

The Mexican Federal Judicial Police, or Federales - it is hard to find a more corrupt, criminally-inclined bunch of asshole bandits it the entire Western Hemisphere. Their utter lack of integrity is the reason the Mexican government relies so much on their armed forces to actually combat the drug lords, briefing the Federales on anything is like inviting the most powerful local drug lords into the meeting.

Okay, but let me and my family find jobs and a place to live upstate before we do.

Evidently you are making a point I am missing. I would take it as a compliment that I wouldn't have to be informed that Patton was an Army general.

Patton would not know about being a Marine because he was not a Marine. Simple point really.

Fine.
You will become dead marines and then you will be in a world of shit because marines are not allowed to die without permission. - Gy Sgt Hartman

Perhaps then, you could provide me with a comparable or contrasting quote from a Marine ? I see that perhaps you weren't in the mood to be complimentary.

I don't know why I would need to be complimentary. But maybe I can find a quote to help you...
Come on, you sons of bitches! Do you want to live forever?
GySgt. Daniel J. "Dan" Daly, USMC
Marines die, that's what we're here for. But the Marine Corps lives forever. And that means YOU live forever.

You'll never get a Purple Heart hiding in a foxhole! Follow me!
Capt. Henry P. Crowe, USMC; Guadalcanal, 13 January 1943
I have only two men out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold.

CAPT LLOYD WILLIAMS, USMC
"The man who will go where his colors go without asking, who will fight a phantom foe in a jungle or a mountain range, and who will suffer and die; in the midst of incredible hardship, without complaint, is still what he has always been, from Imperial Rome to sceptered Britain to democratic America. He is the stuff of which legends are made. His pride is his colors and his regiment, his training hard and thorough and coldly realistic, to fit him for what he must face, and his obedience is to his orders. As a legionnaire, he held the gates of civilization for the classical world...today he is called United States Marine."
LTCOL FEHRENBACH, USA, in "This Kind of War"
"I want you boys to hurry up and whip these Germans so we can get out to the Pacific to kick the shit out of the purple-pissing Japanese, before the *******ed MARINES get all the credit!"

I don't think the quote was to reference Marines in particular rather, those of the grunt persuasion, in general.

I never said it was. Patton was quoted to me towards my reply that Marines are supposed to get shot. My point, again quite a simple point, was that Patton was not a Marine so he would not understand that mentality. In the Army the idea is to stay alive, Marines are trained to attack enemy positions with such ferocity that the enemy is overrun and destroyed. The very nature of that ferocity means Marines will be injured in the process. But history has proven that far fewer Marines die then do enemy troops.
