I was raped.
It was 20+ years ago and I spoke about it, here, once before. No, I did not get pregnant but that does not mean I can not speak out against the craziness people are professing. Being raped was one of the worst things that ever happened to me.
There are things that happen, when you are raped, that most people do not even think about. For instance, I had to be checked to see if I received any STD's! It is not fun going through a rape and then having to wait a week to see if you now have a disease that can't be cured or may even kill you.
I was on birth control so I thankfully did not have to worry about that.
I did have to make a decision about whether to go to the cops. For many reasons I chose not to make a report. I was ashamed. I did not want to deal with buffoons who might ask how I was dressed or if I asked for it. I also did not want to be put on trial when it was not me who broke the law. After seeing more public rape trials, I am glad I did not report the crime.
I can't believe what Akin and others are saying. Moreover, when I listen to conservative radio talk shows, I can't believe I have heard regular people call in and defend the stance that Akin took. Do they truly understand the path they are going down and what they are saying? Do they realize the ramifications of what they are stating? Have you thought of the results?
Women who have been raped have trouble coming forward already but this could eviscerate the number of rapes that are reported. Women will have trouble coming forward because if they end up pregnant then it is their fault because they enjoyed it, right? And how long will it be before a court trial happens where a raped woman ended up impregnated? Will the lawyer claim it was not really rape because the rape survivor got pregnant? It sounds crazy but up until a few days ago the whole legitimate rape theory seemed crazy enough that no one would believe it.
The next thing is something I shudder to say and have had an internal struggle with for days. I will say it because the meaning is what counts. I have heard that a guy can be raped against his will and can have an erection even under duress of not wanting the sex. If a woman 'enjoys' being raped (there is no such thing) by being lubricated enough (or what the heck does it even mean to enjoy it?) then does that mean it was never a crime to begin with? Someone you have never met before takes a knife to your neck and rapes you, by GOP standards this means if you get pregnant it was never a crime? In essence is that not what they are saying? You get pregnant and no matter how bruised you are and no matter how many years of therapy you need, you wanted it and you wanted it badly. So if you are held up and shot but you get pregnant that night, by your husband, does that mean a crime was not committed? This is ludicrous.
The only thing the GOP is trying to do is take away abortion for all people by saying it is not rape if the woman enjoyed it and if you enjoyed the sex then an abortion is a no-no. We need to let everyone know it is not an acceptable way to do things. We need to put a face to rapists so that people are not just voting based on faceless people. We need people to know that every woman can be raped. It can be your Mother, daughter, sister, girlfriend or wife. Anyone can be effected by a rape and adding a 9 month pregnancy to this trauma, along with the stigma that the person enjoyed it, is not acceptable. Everyone needs to speak out.
This is going to be a good campfire (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021179535)
Let's throw in "I was raped while in the military"........

2. Thank you for being brave enough to post
I agree with you 100%. I was raped too, both as a child and a woman. When a fellow soldier raped me I waited an agonizing two weeks because I wasn't on the pill. I knew enough to know I didn't dare tell anyone in the Army. My plan if I turned up pregnant was to pour Jet a-1 on myself and be a bonfire. No abortions overseas in the Army. It's that rule you know.

3. ...I agree wholeheartedly!
I was raped by my (now ex)husband, multiple times, one may even say my youngest was a result....but supposedly that doesn't count either.
You touch on so many of the terms and arguments we are hearing and have been subjected to in the idiocy of these anti-women's rights baffoons. It galls me that we are even having these conversations or that these people would be so ignorant or medieval that they would suggest these things in a modern society. How vulgar, what are we, in the 10th century?
I can only hope and pray that by the light being shown on the idiocy of these beliefs that sanity will prevail and we can stop this debate once and for all. I wish Obama would just come out and say "look, this was settled back in 1973 by the SCOTUS, the debate is done. Woman have rights to their bodies, and healthcare will support that right...end of story"
seriously, why are they even still arguing this? they can make their own choice to not have abortions in their families and churches... why does it have to effect the rest of us?
and aren't there WAY more important things to be discussing...?
thanks for letting me vent here too and thank you for being so honest about your experience also...
Conservities know that rape is serious and life changing. We don't wish that on anyone, ever. That is why we asked for Todd Akin to step out of the race for relection due to his comments.
DUmmies supported Clinton when he lied about cheating on his wife & lying under oath. :lmao:

I am having trouble buying that post by LiberalLoner about the Military having restrictions on abortions overseas . It clearly doesn't state the reasons why such a policy exist. I doubt that in today's military that there is a blanket ban on such things when a rape is the reason someone is pregnant.

Exactly. But of course "she did not dare tell anyone in the Army." Most likely she is a liar.

It's been said here before and needs repeating, a good percentage of alleged rapes are not. I remember a certain Tawana Brawley incident for instance.
IIRC in NYC almost 60% of abortions are repeat abortions. To me that is using abortion as birth control. As far as I can find 1-1.5% of abortions are due to rape and 3% due to mothers health. It's a very small percentage of the 50 million abortions that have happened.

Any sex with a man is rape. We've heard the DUmmie feminazis claim that before. :whatever:
I've been on juries of all kinds of crimes. Thank goodness I've never been on a rape case jury. I'd hate to convict an innocent man and I'd hate even more to set a guilty man free.
-
Look, what Akin said was ignorant (how many people even knew who he was before this stupid comment?). Romney and Ryan as well as other republicans and talking heads have said they don't agree with him and told him to step aside. Not just the "legitimate" rape comment but the "your body shuts down" during a rape and you can't get pregnant was stupid. But I want one of the lurking DUmmies to answer this (you can sign up here or respond back on DU), was Juanita Broaddrick lying, was it a legitimate rape?

Most DUmmies don't believe Mumia killed a cop but believe every case of rape...unless it was Julian Assange, Roman Polanski or Bill Clinton who were the perp.

Brilliant analysis. Brilliant and beautiful. It isn't fair.

I have known Muslims who believe that a woman's body "won't let" it go in, unless she really wants it to go in, so rape is impossible. Really. But, of course, brown people can do no wrong to a liberal. How does this stack up in the liberal poker rules of the day?

Before the libs try to use rape as a weapon to clean up the GOP, why can't they first clean up far worse infractions amongst their constituents. Your post is a prime example. In the muslim culture there are many misguided justifiable reasons to rape. I'm not holding my breath.

Does anyone remember the firestorm that was manufactured about a comment from Bobby Knight in the same vein ?

I could kill Akin for his stupid comment. And **** you liberals for insinuating that what he said is what the GOP believes in. If we are going to group the whole party by what some believe in that party then **** you baby killers. :bird:

Exactly, Hi5 ..

Let's all remember the stance the democrat party and Obama in particular have. That if a fetus survives a partial birth abortion it should be killed outside of the womb. Note this is just not giving it medical support but that another kille...er doctor should be called in to finish the job outside of the woman. That is pretty ****ing sick. That is what the democrat party means.
What the democrat party stands for:
Infanticide.
Anything and everything homo.
Bankrupting the USA.
Allowing anyone and everyone into the USA....and supporting them.
Punishing job creators and the productive people in our society.
Taking the standard of living back to 1880.

If it had been Julian Assange she could take comfort in the fact that it wasn't really rape.

ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG :argh:
Damn it, people go by community values today. Say a young woman that cannot get pregnant be assaulted, jumped on and raped as she leaves a bar, sober, just went in looking for hubby. However she now has STD's that at this time cannot be cured.
80 year old woman has her house broken into as a pervert rapes her, she cannot get pregnant. Was this her own darn fault for leaving a cellar window unlocked ???
So what is this damn fool trying to say ????? If one gets pregnant then one has not been raped ??? If one is not pregnant then they MAY have been raped ????
Very confusing to me how all these Men in government decide the issue of Assult and Battery and rape.
For medical reasons I agree with abortion for those with a tubular pregnancy or any Urgent threat to the female.
So why are all these Men side stepping the question of male rape ?????? Every day seems like everywhere news story's pop up about people in authority using children as meat, we do not hear of our law makers going on the battle waggon against these monsters.
:mental: :mental: :mental:---Yes these questions make me crazy, Rape is assult and battery, sometimes so sever the victim is left with life long scars, disease and perhaps early death.
Abortion is for woman that will die within a few weeks from health complications. Not for any other reason.
If mother dies so does the baby, this I can understand, but any other reason ----and I still have not come to think on a rape victim yet, or a 12 year old girl the victim of incest,--------some things are so horrid and dark, Yeah it makes me nuts.
I do not know what to make of this man and his statements on rape, BUT, it is easy to say no one of his female side of the family ever had to face that problem.

:bsmeter:
How can you put a face to a rapist if you don't report him? Typical DUmmie, telling others to do something she is not willing to do herself. :loser:
You know what I think? I think she made the whole thing up and she was never raped at all.
-

H5 and :-* for you, milady.

To be fair to the DUmmies, DoD facilities do not perform abortions, or at least didn't when I was in. And if you were in a locale where abortion was illegal (like it was when I was in Guam) and one became pregnant, the choices were to have the child, fly to Hawaii or CONUS and have an abortion (on your own dime and leave time.) Getting out on a pregnancy discharge wasn't an option because most wouldn't be approved prior to the 20-24 week point, making it too late for an abortion.
That being said, no ****ing way in hell she was afraid to go to her chain of command. Even over 20 years ago, you looked at a woman cross-eyed and you were in front of the CO so fast your head was swimming.

One of the reasons some woman in the military came up missing.

I also did not want to be put on trial when it was not me who broke the law.
Darn those pesky 6th and 7th Amendments anyway, they keep us from just throwing people in prison based on your word alone with no trial.

I was raped.
It was 20+ years ago. Some guy grabbed me and dragged me under a street lamp. I was deeply offended at the look of horror when he saw my face clearly. Letting go, he backed away gagging. I wasn't going to let this opportunity slip by, so I started taking things off. That was when he gasped "DU Gurl!" and hit me with projectile vomit. He ran away. I searched for hours, but he escaped.
I haven't gotten lucky since. I have bruises all over my body from people touching me with 10 foot poles.
I got fired from the pet shop cause I kept scaring the puppies.
rape is a serious crime that never happened to me, but I will claim at DU in hopes of getting email from Steve Numbers.

Exactly. Been that way for a very, very long time. Then, that wouldn't make for a very good bouncy leaving her the poor, alleged victim.
It can be your Mother, daughter, sister, girlfriend or wife.
As soon as they implement Sharia law in your neighborhood, it will be your brother, son, dog, goat and mailman.
-
It's been said here before and needs repeating, a good percentage of alleged rapes are not. I remember a certain Tawana Brawley incident for instance.
Crystal Magnum comes to mind as well.
BTW there are procedures in place when a military member is sexually assaulted. When it is promptly reported like it should be the 'morning after pill' can be administered to prevent a pregnancy.
-
If we did manage to outlaw abortion except to save the mother's life or in cases of rape and incest, the rape statistics will fly through the roof. It'll go up faster than the national debt. ::)

I found a lefty article that points out other politicians have made mistakes when it comes to science, including our President:
During the presidential campaign of 2008, then-candidate Barack Obama struggled with the science of vaccines and autism. At a rally in Pennsylvania, Obama told the crowd, "We've seen just a skyrocketing autism rate. Some people are suspicious that it's connected to the vaccines. … The science right now is inconclusive, but we have to research it."
While Obama avoided touting a link between vaccines and autism, his statement on "inconclusive" research doesn't pass muster. There is no evidence that vaccines cause autism, despite multiple studies that attempted to find such a link. In fact, the study that first touted this link was retracted in 2010 by the journal The Lancet, after an independent council concluded that the study was fatally flawed. For example, the 12 children in the study were cherry-picked by the researchers rather than being an arbitrary sample of patients as the paper had claimed

Unfortunately, I think you are right and I say this as someone whose been on the crappy end of this stick(no pun) myself. It seems to me there are more then a number of women who jump on that accusation, even if it's in hindsight, in order to hide their OWN shame over what or who they were involved in; especially if it's found out by people they don't want to think ill of them. I think my own gender probably needs to stop playing emotional volleyball themselves with this topic much the same way blacks need to stop the same manipulation with racism. It is NOT rape if you planned the interlude, partook in it willingly, but regretted it later when others found out. Regret does not equal rape. JMO though
