A useful skill picked up while doing EMS
To be able to listen to several radios at the same time. We have one agency doing mutual aid with another... so I need the command for the latter...
It is another one of our fires, this one, per map, in an isolated area.
Ah there are days, all those skills once thought to be non important... are coming to the fore once again.
On a funny thing, just put the shooting vest in the drier. The poor thing had a shall we say, au of smoke to it. In fact, intense, so it had to be washed. But if this other fire becomes major (as in actually put actual structures at risk), well it will be smelly again.
No primitives at the campfire.

How does a shooting vest get so wet it has to be placed in a cloths dryer ???
I do believe Nads is using terms that we outsiders do not know. This would not hurt if Nads spoke in terms we understand as civilians who do not understand the lingo she uses.
So Nads is speaking in the lingo of the fire fighters, grand if she wishes to communicate to that one comunity. For the rest of us she is speaking in terms we just do not understand.
I am sure she knows a poopie suit, but darn 95% of those that read her have no idea what this is.
Have to read behind the lines with Nads, I take it a shooting vest to be protection from flash backs on a water line to fight fires.
Nads needs to realise that she needs to explain what she is is talking about, not just expect the general public to understand what a shooting vest Term is to fire fighters.
Interesting woman, just needs to realise that all these technical or lingo is not in most of our life experiences.

You don't understand what she is trying to convey. She is an INSIDER. She knows STUFF about almost every human endeavor. She doesn't need to explain herself - people who know STUFF and are fellow INSIDERS will appreciate your genius and breadth and depth of knowledge and experience.

2. I can relate
I just threw some underwear in the washer that was smelly.
With this heat, they will probably become smelly again.
I too am doing 2 things at once...listening to music and reading.
Oh, and series, writing this which I guess makes 3 things!
And my toe hurts from banging it into the door.
More later as things get...interesting.

I shoot between 1500 and 2K rounds a month and have yet to notice a lingering smell of smoke on my clothing.
Mz. Mitty should try a new tactic. Instead of tell the DUmmies what she knows, she should try and pick a subject that the DUmmies don't know about.

So doubt it. I used to also work dispatch. Seven radios, woohoo.
So not only was she a cop and an EMT she was also a dispatcher. Amazing. I can picture her answering the phone when it rings, "911, what's you emergency"? The caller says, "I'm being attacked by Chuck Norris, 50 members of Ultimate Fighter, and an assault team armed with full-auto weapons". The Noracle responds, "Let me grab my knife and I'll be on my way to save the day!!!!"
I bet she was also an astronaut.

The caller says, "I'm being attacked by Chuck Norris, 50 members of Ultimate Fighter, and an assault team armed with full-auto weapons". The Noracle responds, "Let me grab my knife and I'll be on my way to save the day!!!!"

My hero. She is so proactive that doesn't even wait for the fat signal to light up the sky. Always scanning the airwaves, ever vigilant, listing for that faint cry for help.

I can kind of relate to her being able to multi-task and listen to several radios at the same time.
During the "terrible" Bush economy back when people had jobs and money I took a vacation to Grand Cayman. I went to the beach. I put on a pair of dark, mirrored sunglasses and multi-tasked my viewing. I even saved a life. Because the sunglasses were so dark and mirrored my wife couldn't tell that I was multi-tasking which prevented me from suffering a terrible death.

I think my last one was in 2009 and it and the O broke me. During the 'terrible' Bush economy I was going on at least one vacation a year. Sometimes two. Had money to spend on the vacation and still had money to pay my bills at home AND stick some in saving. Their master Zero fixed that. He fixed it so I no longer have to be stressed out about what I'm going to do with all of the money that I was making. Now I just have to stress out about whether I've got enough money for gas and groceries.

I don't regularly schedule vacations. I got to visit my family in North Carolina for Christmas in 2003 and spent the week lying in bed with bronchitis. My next vacation was going along with my mom and her husband to Alaska in 2006. Pretty, but I was just along for the ride... it wasn't really "my" vacation. I had to cancel the one I scheduled last year because I couldn't afford it.
I have one scheduled for October this year. Fingers crossed.

I suspect Vlada Mitty's one of these nosy, snoopy types who has a radio police-scanner on top of her television set, and on the dashboard of her motor vehicle.
I dunno about anybody else--such equipment's widely used around here--but I always thought such was bad manners, intruding, snooping, nosing around, looking through the key-hole. I don't think non-law-enforcement civilians should be allowed to own such things.
Of course I realize that's probably perhaps a minority opinion here, but whatever.
I think Vlada Mitty's a snoop; has to have her nose in everything even if it's not her business.

I have a scanner and listen to it on weekends. My dad is a firefighter (he's the Fire Chief now) and I grew up listening to scanners. A few years ago, a sugar refinery blew up; I heard the call over the scanner. I know it can be considered nosy, but it's just something I'm used to.
The local police and fire recently went digital, so I can no longer hear them(a digital scanner is around $300.00). I can still hear some of Chatham county (Savannah), though.

My best guess is she is talking about her *photographer's* vest. There were several threads where she mentioned the need for washing hers, the things that were in the pockets (including squashed energy bars), and so forth.
I nadined *photographer vest* and got all sorts of links for supplies for photographers, and then nadined *shooter's vest* and lo! everything that came up had to do with shooting, as in weapons of various sorts.
Gnads gets her mind wrapped around a term that she likes, and the reader is expected to figure out what she means, even if she is the only one using that term in relation to whatever her conversation happens to be.
I think it is part and parcel of her inflated arrogance.
