How will YOU survive global warming?
It has been 8 years since "An Inconvenient Truth" laid out what we are up against. Humanity has done nothing significant to slow the progress of global warming and this year we are seeing massive crop failures in corn and other major commodities.
The rate of progress in combating global warming is zero. In fact more people are using more energy and producing more carbon. Major polluters finance eco-porn and greenwash their brands, offering such nonsense as eco-friendly SUVs. Global warming is not being treated as a crisis and there is no international entity with any authority to address the disaster.
20 years ago I moved from Los Angeles to NYC and gave up my car. I walk, bike and use mass transit. I have talked with others who live completely off the grid -- solar, wind and hydro, grow your own, shoot a deer, all that.
But the truth is none of that will make a dent in what is unfolding now. Some scientists believe we will see an 80% reduction the human population by the end of this century -- famine, floods, resource wars, tropical diseases. The clock is ticking down. The Titanic is sinking while the band plays on. The question is not longer whether global warming is real, or even what can be done to stop it but rather 'how will any one of us survive?'
Any ideas?

1. Everyone move in together. Create co-operative living agreements. & WORK for a TAX ON FOSSIL FUELS,
the proceeds of which are to be dedicated to the development of sustainable GREEN entrepreneurship for energy and local economies.
There is research out there that says things are very bad, worse than most people realize, but some things can be done about and that will have good effect upon the problems. That research recommended a new tax on fossil fuels to be invested in sustainable local entrepreneurship.
I'll go see if I can find that link for you.
Yeah tax the hell out of fossil fuels then the DUmmies will be bitching that they can't surf DU all day because their electricity bills necessarily skyrocketed.

What won't survive is the advanced technological culture that produced global warming. Most of the world's great cities will be drowned or otherwise unlivable.
There might be a double whammy of a sharply reduced life span conferred by unchecked HIV, people who survive childhood dying in their 20s and 30s, most children being raised by other children.
What you've suggested are all short term bandaids for frightened people who live in highly technological societies. While those things might buy a few individuals a little time, the residents sleeping in shifts and keeping watch with shotguns in their laps against hungry poor folks from the cities, I'm not altogether sure I'd like to live like that.
Then again, we might survive as a species after the first wave of death from famine and disease with enough of the remnants of technology to eliminate HIV and go on with a less destructive technology and lowered expectations. I wouldn't mind living in that world.
Until then, banding together is the only solution, pooling knowledge and resources while the Randroids die alone in their bunkers, armed to the teeth and stir crazy from solitude.
I find it ironic that the group that supports sex with anyone at anytime is also complaining about a theoretical future where HIV is unchecked. That would be like supporting smoking then complaining that lung cancer rates may go up in the future.

Just think today it's the drought that proves global warm.... errrrr climate change, in a couple of years when it rains too much, that too will be proof of global climate change. Then one year everything will be "normal" and that too will be proof.
I tell you what DUmmies when they can tell me with some accuracy whether it will rain next Tuesday then maybe I will start listening to all the other predictions, until then STFU.

If the left would let us drill and mine the oil, gas and coal that we have and allow more nuke plants to be built, electricity would be cheaper. Instead they want to shift to more expensive "green energy" at a time that it isn't developed enough to meet out needs.

If you are referring to solar, and wind, the big question is, will they ever be. I'm leaning towards no.

I'll survive because there is nothing to survive. Oh shit, I forgot I left my RV idling since lunch! Well at least it's cold in there since I also left the AC on.
However, just in case, I have also prepared with .22LR, .45 ACP, .38, 9mm, .223, 30-30, all sorts of buck/bird shot, and some 7.56x54R. I were Boy Scout.

My grandparents and my grandma's whole family moved to CA to look for work because of the drought in the 1930's (from Iowa). They had a farm yet left it because it was that bad. Was it global warming then?

I just take my precious ring and head into the mountains. There is a cave I know and the fishing is good. Don't even need a line and hook. Its a pretty secret place and I could hide there for like 500 years if I wanted.
There is no such thing as global warming in a cave. The only downside is the occasional visits from the nadinses. I hate the nadinses! Filthy thieving nadinses! You might ask, "Whats a nadinses, Precious?" Nadinses are shorter than dwarveses, fatter and they smell bad...and they are Thieves! Filthy stinking thieves!
But as long as i don't lose my birthday present, I'll be OK. No one will ever see me.

My grandparents and my grandma's whole family moved to CA to look for work because of the drought in the 1930's (from Iowa). They had a farm yet left it because it was that bad. Was it global warming then?
I believe it was 1933 that my dad said the winter was so warm here that the old cotton stalks sprouted back out in the spring. Only had ice once and it didn't get cold enough to kill the plants that usually died in winter.

I'll settle for some accuracy within 24 hours. This morning I checked 3 different weather sites for the rain forecast. One said 30%. One said 50%. One said 80%. I swear I think they gave better forecasts when they just checked the barometer and looked out the window.

Because of where we live, I watch the hurricane forcasts closely. Five days out, the projected track is over 200 miles wide. If they can't model any better than that with a limited number of variables, how can we believe models with almost unlimited variables 100 years out.
Besides even using their projections, our great grandkids will be the first to notice anything.

I don't know what year it was, but things got so bad in Kansas that my great-grandparents loaded up their children and tractor and moved to Colorado for a few years. I wonder what was causing global climate change way back then??? :???:

This reminds me of a book I have, California Disasters, or some such title. In it is an account of a 2 year drought that was so bad the rivers did actually dry up. Cattle ranches lost all of their herds, etc, etc..
In the late 1800's.

What will I do to survive globull warming dummy? I will crank up the AC and wait for the next ice age... which was supposed to happen in the late 70's.... and 50's... and 20's... so I'm figuring it will come up again in a few years.
