Title: Drying fruits and vegetables?
Post by: JohnnyReb on August 05, 2012, 06:41:32 PM
Got any advice or sites on drying fruits and vegetables....and storing? Want to do it the old fashioned way...no dehydrators and such....but will consider that.

My freezer is full and I've still got a lot of beans and peas to go yet.

The 'Warm' setting on my oven is 170 degrees, which is what most dehydrators run at (between 150-170).  You could try using the oven, but the problem with that is getting rid of the humidity as well.

I have a dehydrator, worth every penny.  But, you can dehydrate in the oven, like Chris suggests.

I've tried that but never had very good luck.  Probably because the "dehydrated" food I was familiar with was probably loaded with chemicals.
