OBAMA CAMPAIGN SUES TO RESTRICT MILITARY VOTING

President Barack Obama, along with many Democrats, likes to say that, while they may disagree with the GOP on many issues related to national security, they absolutely share their admiration and dedication to members of our armed forces. Obama, in particular, enjoys being seen visiting troops and having photos taken with members of our military. So, why is his campaign and the Democrat party suing to restrict their ability to vote in the upcoming election?

On July 17th, the Obama for America Campaign, the Democratic National Committee and the Ohio Democratic Party filed suit in OH to strike down part of that state's law governing voting by members of the military. Their suit said that part of the law is "arbitrary" with "no discernible rational basis."

Currently, Ohio allows the public to vote early in-person up until the Friday before the election. Members of the military are given three extra days to do so. While the Democrats may see this as "arbitrary" and having "no discernible rational basis," I think it is entirely reasonable given the demands on servicemen and women's time and their obligations to their sworn duty.

The National Defense Committee reports:
[f]or each of the last three years, the Department of Defense’s Federal Voting Assistance Program has reported to the President and the Congress that the number one reason for military voter disenfranchisement is inadequate time to successfully vote.

I think its unconscionable that we as a nation wouldn't make it as easy as possible for members of the military to vote. They arguably have more right to vote than the rest of us, since it is their service and sacrifice that ensures we have the right to vote in the first place.

If anyone proposes legislation to combat voter fraud, Democrats will loudly scream that the proposal could "disenfranchise" some voter, somewhere. We must ensure, they argue, that voting is easy and accessible to every single voter. Every voter, that is, except the men and women of our military.

Absolutely disgusting.

Definitely needs to be made into an advertisement by the RNC "Why doesn't POTUS want Soldiers to vote? It couldn't be for pure political gain, could it?"

Looks like a certain presidential candidate doesn't feel too confident about his chance of winning the battleground state of Ohio

What is the name of the party that disenfranchises citizens? The American Fascist Party aka The Democrat Party.

The Romney campaign has been pretty sharp with the quick reaction thing.

I think this will not be ignored by them.

I said he was going to do it, especially if knows his chances of losing because of the military are high. obama is a disgusting pig. He is all for letting illegals vote, but wants to restrict the voting of the military when they should be first in line to do so! Then, the illegal votes will be the only way obama can win. He most know that he is toast if he is trying to cheat like this.

Hopefully the lawsuit gets thrown out.

I did some google digging and not one MSM news source is covering this story. Now if this was Romney, it would be on the front page of every website, newspaper, and news station in the coutry.

I'd be very careful if I were Obama.

If for some reason the bum refuses to leave 'after' we throw him out in November .. the same military may not be so understanding!(http://i40.tinypic.com/23vgh8z.jpg)

Plaintiffs bring this lawsuit to restore in-person early voting for all Ohioans during
the three days prior to Election Day – a right exercised by an estimated 93,000
Ohioans in the last presidential election.

The purpose of the lawsuit is clearly to restore early voting for all voters, not to take away military early voting.

Call me old fashioned but what's wrong with voting on election day?  Its been done this way for centuries.  I understand standing in line might be a drag but if it is too much of a hardship for someone to participate in the Democratic process, then perhaps they should just skip the process.

Frankly, the whole "early voting/absentee voting" bullshit has gone WAY too far.

There should be three groups of people who should be excused from showing up at the polling place, in person, on the ONE DAY allowed for voting:

--Military (AD or reservists on training)
--People out of the area on business, vacation, etc.
--Medically unable to show up in person.

That's IT.  Period.

You are so right...not only that , they keep the polls open from as early as 6 am to 7 pm to accomodate everyone, so there is no excuse!!! Also, the voting day is announced weeks in advance so people can plan that day accordingly
