I doubt this will make the news anywhere, but the state of Nevada is BEHIND on SNAP payments.

This type of shit may be coming to a state near you soon, if it hasn't already. Anyway, here's the story.

My wife and I have been receiving SNAP (food stamps) for a while now, because the two of us are trying to live on less than $1,200 per month in the form of my disability payments. My wife looked for work for over a year and only managed to find a commission only "job" for a long-distance carrier which paid so little that it didn't even cover her bus pass and extra laundry money. Her final week at that "job" she made absolutely nothing for over 30 hours' work. Additionally, she's now sick with West Valley Fever in her lungs which takes months to treat and so she's forced to be on county medical assistance until that's finally better. Never mind either of our emotional states at this point.

At any rate, I'm sure that most -- if not all -- states are like Nevada now, wherein you have to go back to the office once per calendar quarter to submit paperwork showing whether or not there have been any changes in your income, rent, expenses and so forth. Every time this date has approached, my wife has been to the office on or before the deadline and verified either at the office or over the phone that everything was properly submitted.

Last month, she got the paperwork in on the deadline day and everything appeared to be fine. Well, today is the day we were supposed to get our deposit on our debit card and nothing showed up.

It took almost an hour of trying to get through to the office by phone, and the worker who answered explained that the office itself failed to meet its own deadline for processing the paperwork, and therefore they were going to require more time to determine if we're still eligible. They further said that a case worker would call us back by Friday to determine if more information was required. Mind you, this paperwork was handed in on August 16. They're telling my wife in essence that it was never even looked at in the past two weeks. Other than that, she got a vague earful of utter crap which does nothing to explain when or even if we'll be getting these benefits.

They couldn't simply give us the benefit of the doubt and push our payment through while they fix their own ****-up. Nope, they just went ahead and did nothing and gave no warning whatsoever about what was going to happen, then left it up to us to contact them so that they could inform us that they ****ed up. Isn't that sweet?

My point here is that if these guys could completely **** over our case and fail to get back to us with any communication, and could not notify us of any kind of problem when she called them last Thursday to confirm that everything was in fact okay, then who can guess how many other individuals or families here in Nevada are being similarly left in a lurch?

We have food and we'll be okay for a while, but if these guys don't get their shit together soon we're going to be in a world of hurt.

I suppose he could call Harry Reid's office.

Anyway, going hungry for a few days won't hurt Kirk.  In fact, it might do him some good.

No primitive comments at this campfire yet.

You know that got me to thinking in a Bloomberg sort of way. When you get right down to it, all forms of food stamp programs encourage obesity (I have plenty of visual evidence of this that I could give to Mikey) and should be reduced. By about 60%-75%. Now I'm not really cutting down on this dangerous program. What I am suggesting is that 25% of food stamps get mailed out on whatever local welfare day is, I don't know. Then just like ordering a second 12 oz. soda instead of one 24 oz one, that the victims of food stamps then go to the food stamp office to get their second 25%.

This plan is restricting their huge caloric input and danger to themselves from an evil government trying to kill these poor souls through no fault of their own, now weigh in at 3+ bills. Oh wait! What if we taxed food stamps at 30%+ that would be a good way to socially engineer the truly ****ing huge obese people and you DUches know who I mean.

That's what I was thinking.

If the Las Vegas Leviathan wasn't spending so much time and trouble trying to get a free ride and trying to find a job for Jeanette, and went out and worked himself, he'd be in clover by now.

It's kind of funny that Kirk's "disability" is his astonishing, enormous, staggering fatness, yet here he is bitching about slow delivery of his taxpayer -financed chow.

I guess the only surprise is that here we are in the second half of 2012 and his laboring, grievously overworked heart hasn't yet exploded like a hand grenade.

Hang on a second! The horse might be worth the vet bill. The LVL would just cost a fortune just to get him out of the house.

BTW was I the only one who was thinking that this thread was going to be about poor Jeanette finally sewing his mouth shut?

Me too; I don't feel half an ounce of sorry for him at all.

I see the hotels in Las Vegas are still advertising for bellboys.

And they get a neat red uniform and a neat kind of red cap with it too, paid for.

I think Kirk would do great as a bellboy, for two reasons; he'd make loads in tips--people tip overweight bellboys more than they tip small bellboys--and he'd work off some of his excess poundage.

It'd be a win-win situation for him, but the tub of lard doesn't want to win.

Behind on SNAP payments?  Dumbass, I live right behind a Walmart and it's the first of the month today.  If I go over there right now, there would be overweight fatties dressed in sized 2 clothing with eight kids per mother from six different daddies running wild in that store.  Each mother will have two carts stocked full of junk food while they swipe their EBT.  I can go over there and take video of it right now if you want...

I know, but I'm actually in Las Vegas and can prove to him that the state isn't behind on SNAP payments.  That would be big news here if that happened.  They were making a huge deal when unemployment benefits were running out... so, I don't know.  I think it's kind of funny.

I typed the post up right after my wife finally got off the phone and was still in shock.

They're worn out, they're tired, they need a rest.

Back in the day there used to be this ministry within the Catholic church who's mission was to evangelize via media and they used to put out this syndicated TV show called Insight. I used to love watching that show because the stories tended to err toward sci-fi, and yes, I love sci-fi and I call it sci-fi, not sf.

Anyway, one of the stories they produced was about this married couple living in this perfect, planned civilization, then one day their monthly food stamp ration got messed up. They went from bureaucrat to bureaucrat  trying to get it resolved and started getting hungry. They resorted to stealing or forging some food stamps and then they are called into some bureaucrat's office and told the issue has been resolved but it appears they forged some food stamps and the penalty for that is a month's worth of food stamps.

Getting desperate, they remember old stories about God and have vague memories of people getting help from church's in their childhood. So they have something like an internet phone system and they look up God and get this sort of prayer line and they plead with the recorded prayer for food because they are hungry but it is only a recording.

That fades out and we next see a scene of the guy going to work and getting his food ration but one of his arms has been amputated.

That was a good series.

And thus we see the fatal flaw in the disability bandwagon so many DUmmies aspire too.

If you live on the govt dole, you die by the govt dole. Bureaucracy makes disability a job with needed attention spent on paperwork, saving and cataloging medical bills, and as we see here getting all that work in well ahead of time for the system to flow smoothly.

any mistake...and you starve until the govt gets around to fixing it.

Frankly I'd rather work for a living. much easier. Less dependance on bureaucrats who could care less.
But like moths to the flame, DUmmies are drawn to the myth of free money.

Personally I would like to see the Las Vegas Leviathan on a street corner with a "will work for food sign." Like he would get any takers...

If he lost weight, he would lose out on free disability monies...and he would (gasp!) have to get a job!
So the pounds must stay on until he dies at an early age.

Why not ? It could be a novel way to tax another '1%' group - Tax the bejeesus out of America's fattest, until they are out of the 'morbidly obese' range. That will make them pay 'their fair share' of hospital expense, as the dangers of obesity and the health risks involved are settled scientific fact.

Oh wait -- Thats pretty much what Obamacare is going to do once fully implemented. Nevermind.

And nobody is 'forcing' anyone to go on medical assistance. I work 40 hours a week, run, and take my kids where they need to go and I have an auto immune disorder that makes me feel like DIRT somedays--hell most--if not for physical activity I'd feel horrible just about everyday. I manage because I want to manage while I'm not TRULY disabled and can do something about the quality of my life.

This is the very real danger of relying on government, lurkers.  One bureaucrat gets lazy or is incompetent, and you are shit out of luck.  Said bureaucrat doesn't give a shit about you, either.  Do you like giving up that much control over your lives?  Would scare me to death.  That same bureaucrat can't get fired, either, so you are nothing more than a baby bird, waiting helplessly with your mouth open.

Hey Fiddybeowulf, your post was funny, H5 was from me!

P.S.  His post has been read 292 times, has the one reply from Grasswire, and one rec.  Possibly because Kirk just made my point above for me.  Rely on the government?  You are ****ed.

We're paying for him to be unhealthy but those of us who work and support his sweaty, be-pimpled ass are being told what food items and portions we're allowed to have.

The sooner his fat-encrusted heart gives out the better it will be for everyone (especially Jeanette, who can then go get some dick without having to use a pry bar to find it).

Ya know, if there wasn't such a thing as EBT cards or food stamps or a way for these people to get their benefits in paper form, there would be soup lines all over this country, just like the pictures from the Great Depression show.

Of course, we'd never see them because the media would never show such a thing.

Whoa.

I've been watching the numbers on this thread since I first posted it.

You know, the sparkling old dude, Atman, the subway cat (one wonders what's happened to the subway cat), and Cryano (one wonders what's happened to Cryano), used to generate the biggest audiences here in the shortest time.

Now it appears any campfire with the Las Vegas Leviathan in the headline of the thread draws the most.

I am a rung or two above the leviathan on the socioieconomic ladder, but I love ramen noodles.

Have 'em for lunch a couple of times a week.

Traditional ramen shops in Japan are out of this world good.

One of the cool things I loved about Japan.  Ramen store the size of a closet, in the 'burbs, you'd just point at what you wanted (I loved it with the egg or char-shu pork on top) or in Tokyo, they'd have a screen on the wall where you'd put in your 500 yen coin, punch the button for what you wanted, and get your ticket and change.

No seats, everyone chowing down, and I actually got to pick up and practice a little Japanese while I ate.

Got one of those at work.  Don't know if it's gonna be enough to do the job for Kirk, tho--it's only rated for 250 tons.

Best advise I ever got from family and tried to pass on to my kids-----few listened.

All ways be two weeks ahead on bills, and that goes for deadlines on government papers for anything.

I admit is drove the landlords  crazy to pay ahead of time, each month added up to a point that one could in emergency skip a payment.

Never had to deal with government give away Be's but believe me I would have had the paper work in a couple weeks early.

When ones life depends on paperwork to get food clothing and shelter,  and put it off to the last few days, Whats the matter with them???   Mail can be lost and without just making one phone call to see if the mail was delivered is nuts.

It does not cost that much to send important papers return receipt requested, any thing you send to the State or Federal government is very important.   So plunk down the cost of a pack of cigarettes and save allot of crap.

Geez whats the matter with people, pay ahead even if it means only $5.00 , Answer all government forms right smartly and register  return receipt in the mail.   Someone has to sign for it so no excuse from them they never received the mail.
