Post by: seahorse513 on July 29, 2012, 07:59:02 PM
As many of you know I work at Walmart..WELL..this chap comes in and wants to speak to a manager, I say ok, walkied her and she said she'll be right down

Now most of you know we have a 90 day return policy except on certains items.
He bought a wheel barrow 2 YEARS ago.

He complained that the tire(s) weren't holding air
so why didn't he just patch or replace tire :panic:

He said the bearings were off..
on a wheelbarrow??   What is it a John Deere wheelbarrow?? :???:

The wheelbarrow only costs(wait for it....)

$36.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ai yai yai!!! He wants a refund!!! :banghead:

I'd be laughing as I pointed him towards the wheelbarrows.

He's probably still in the hospital getting it removed from his backside.  :-)

Well we don't have wheelbarrows.....He is going to call the home office....He said "we should be embarrassed to sell shoddy merchandise"

Well what does he expect for $36.00??? for something that is supposed to carry things short distance, debris, dirt, bricks, branches, logs over a period of  2 years. Wear and tear comes to mind, proper replacements in a timely fashion works wonders.... :hammer:

Well, as it's been said many times before:

This country has no shortage of idiots. Entitlement idiots. People who expect something for nothing, or next to nothing.

I needed to return a malfunctioning fishing reel once. The lady working sporting goods was rather short with me so when she asked me what was wrong with it I told her " it wasn't catching any fish!"

She told me they wouldn't take it back for that reason so I asked her to get a manager. When the manager got there the lady was standing a distance away and I told the manager, quietly, the reel was locking up. He took a new one off the shelf and handed it to me. The look on her face was priceless. Heh.

She probably still tells that story.

I worked in retail when I was young & you are absolutly right.  But, I'm sure glad I don't have to do it now. People have changed.

A happy customer is a returning customer :-)

When I worked retail, and later as customer floormat service, I harbored the secret wish that certain customers would never return; in fact I often wished them upon our competitors.

Outwardly of course, I smiled sweetly, said "yes" to everything, apologized to them for their phukkups, and planned my escape...

...and on the last day at one of those jobs, told my soon to be ex-boss (who had just told me how sorry he was to see me go),

"Remember, the customer is always right, especially when he's wrong."

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me at all. It reminds of when I was working for Directv as a customer service rep and had a guy demand that I give him the premier package (The top package - $120.00 a month service) free for a year because his remote control batteries went dead and we didn't send him new ones!

From my years in retail as a youngster, what I've surmised is that there are any number of scammers out there whose goal it is to pay as little as possible for ANYTHING in life. That guy you had Sea, probably was cleaning out his garage and decided he had no use for that anymore. Rather then trouble himself with a yard sale, he figured he'd bring it back and get ALL the cash back he spent 2 years and 200 uses ago. Unfortunately, my exes family had people like this in it. They figured they'd keep something until they needed something else and then no matter how old it was, they'd try and rake in some cash for the new item on that old one--used and all. Hell, they'd probably do it to make sure they had beer and cig money too.  :thatsright:

I'm one of the few that can do refunds and exchanges where I work.

I have seen it all.

Friday nights are awesome when people need beer, drug, or gambling money.  :rotf:

The crackhead bank account.  I had neighbors that would buy stuff using the boss's credit card and take it back on Saturday for cash.

I handled customer complaints for a pharmaceutical manufacturing company some years ago.

The key thing in dealing with this kind of crap is not to take it personally. Like water off a duck's back, this kind of nonsense is simply part of the game.

And don't get me started about those people who want to initiate lawsuits because the product "harmed" them.  :whatever:

That's an exact description of my job as product liability claim manager when I worked for Rheen Water Heater Division.

You wouldn't believe the stories...

Sea, do you have a lot of swapping at your Wal*mart? What I mean by that is people buying something new and bringing the same thing that is either broke, or used, back to get their money back for it?

When I was working at Wal*mart we had a customer try that with a big screen tv. She was in the day before and bought a brand new one not even out of the box. She was demanding her money back because it wouldn't turn on. The funny thing that got her busted was this:

1) It had dust all over it. I mean so much so that it looked like it had been in a cabinet for a while. a lot more dust than can be collected in one day.

2) They scanned the serial number and found that it was manufactured three years before she bought it. (I'm not sure if your store does that or not).

When we busted her and confronted her about it. She started to get hostile and scream. She said that she is never shopping a Wal*mart again. That is the first and last time I have ever heard a store manager tell a customer they are glad she isn't coming back.

Heh.  Nope, that is a 100% true story.  Every time I cast with that reel it would lock up and throw my fishing plug WAY out in the lake.  It was brand new so I took it back.  That lady was just nasty to me and she didn't see the humor in my reasoning!

LOL

Naw, it was Huntsville.  They finally got on my last nerve and I haven't shopped there in 3 years.  We have a new Target just down the street that seems to like my business then we do the local HEB and Brookshire Bros. for produce.

Was picking up a few things at wally world once. Looked at my watch to check the time.   Crap that's right the battery is dead. Well wait a minute , I bought the watch at Walmart and they sell batteries for watches.  I'll just go to the jewelry section and have them replace the battery.

Sure enough they had a battery for the watch.  The lady at the jewelry section was having some difficulty putting the back of the watch on. She asked me if I could remember when I purchased the watch because they hadn't been selling that particular watch long. I couldn't remember when so she checked the computer to see if the info was still there. Sure enough it hadn't been a yr so she did a one for one exchange. She said today was my lucky day because it had been exactly one year to date that I had purchased the watch.  :yahoo:

I liked that watch. It was a Timex Indiglo that at first glance looked like a Rolex.  :p

I have seen people try that at a store. After they left, I told the cashier, if that was allowed, it be would be a great way to make a intrest free loan at the expense of the credit card company.

Customers like the ones you all mention are the reason I don't work in a retail store any more. IF you can't be honest about needing to return stuff you might as well shoplift it off the shelf because that is what they are doing ,stealing from the store.

You got that right airwolf...man the shit I find tucked away behind other stuff...half eaten can bars, cd's, dvd's condom boxes, hell they just take one and leave the rest!!!( :mental:)pokemon cards, underwear packeges, bra tags...
How do these people live with themselves. we are onto them though, no reciept no cash. After so many they don't let people return anything, They track it through a drivers license..

See here is where Wal-Mart lost my business. We tried to EXCHANGE a patio chair that broke the fist time someone sat in it. No big deal right? Oh no. The gal pulled us up and said we couldn't exchange it because we had had 3 returns in 6 months. Yup, she was right. She even told us the date and time of our last return which was a $12.00 rug to put on our newly tiled floor. Yup, we took it back because the color wasn't right and traded it (along with the required cash) for one that cost $26.00. No harm no foul in my book but it kept us from exchanging a broken chair less than a week old.

They lost roughly $1,000.00/month in business from us. I emailed the home office along with scans of my receipts. I was never replied to and I've never darkened their door again and have no intention to.
