Do employers abuse employee drug testing?

So far this year I have had 4 drug and alcohol tests. The last one was for talking back to my boss for not understanding what was going on. The one before that was for hitting a deer at 2 am in the morning. ( I drive a truck for a living ). I lost all respect for management!!

If I had a DUmmy working for me, I would drug test them every Monday.

9. I'm 61 yrs old and plan to retire next April. Yes they are

out to get me, only because I say whats on my mind. They don't like anyone that questions them. I never miss work and do my job without accidents (excluding the one deer).

Hell if they want to put me on unemployment comp for a year, I'd be all for it! I think they know that too, so they are doing their best to aggravate me into quitting. So instead I think I'll just stick around for SPITE!

How about keeping your big fat mouth shut until April then? I swear it's like you want them to fire you so you can bitch that they are denying you retirement.  :mental:

I haven't had a drug test in a really long time.  Guess my employer likes me.

Here's an idea, DUmmies... lay off the dope.

I've had to take a drug test for every contract, job, and background check I've had.  It's hardly an inconvenience considering the alternative.

Other than the military, I have only ever had to pee in a cup for pre employment. Well except for last week when I hurt myself at work and had to pee in a cup for that, but that doesn't count since that is a requirement for worker's comp.

I didn't count my pre-employment one. I meant after I was hired.

Just wanted to clarify for the lurking DUmmies.

I think that's why many of them don't have jobs....they can't pass the pee test.

The ones that can pass the pee test, fail the hair test.

Funny how this works, say you as a Temp employee are sent to work for a company knowing they will and can hire you full time after 6 months.   For some reason a large number of well paid Temps. forget about the pee test, they pasted the one to be hired by the Temp company so now they have any kind of job they forget that they will get a $3.00 an hour raise when becoming a full time employee , benefits medical and dental, personal days off with pay and a paid vacation.

6 months go by, work is slow, no one is hired for a couple of months, then when business picks up out of the blue, you are told to go take a pee test for permanent employee.    Way it works is the test is free if you pass, if not you are docked a weeks pay for the test and fired.

Sad, I have seen so many good workers that just walk out, they know they cannot pass the test so they collect their money and have to start all over again.

Some workers get desperate, they will pay someone to pee for them into a small bottle and tape it to their groin to keep it warm.   Sometimes this works, not often, only known this to work just once in 22 years.

Problem as I see it is that Pot lasts a long time in the body's system where as if some one takes a hard drug it like Coke is gone in a few days.    I do not know the life of the weird drugs today, so much changes from year to year, additives and monkeying around with the drugs themselves.

For health insurance purposes some company will not hire smokers.  They go all out, for the workers no smoking on their property, or insist the smokers quit if they want their job.   And if suspicious they will do piss tests for tobacco.

Now this would upset me if I worked in a Chicken factory and was told not to eat pork or beef, but if I needed the job, I could handle this for a few years.

It's all about probability DUmpmonkey. You're a DUmpmonkey, your rate of abuse is high.
Four tests in one year should tell you something about yourself.

He was involved in a collision that did damage to the company vehicle.  The insurance likely required him to be drug tested as a part of the claim.  It may have had little to do with the company thinking he was high.

Plus the fact that as a holder of a Class A CDL, any time there's an accident involving said vehicle, particularly while on company time, it's THE LAW that a drug test be administered.

I was tested before I ever stepped foot into the plant--twice--once for pre-employment physical and once the day I started.  I'm also, per NRC rules, subject to "random" testing where I can show up, be at work, and have my employer send me to FFD (Fitness For Duty) and I am REQUIRED to provide breathalyzer and urine sample within two hours of being notified.  No going home for Golden Seal or whatever bullshit you DUmmies waste your money on in a pathetic attempt to cheat the system, no pushing it off until the next day.

Refusal to provide is WORSE than a positive test in that your access will be PERMANENTLY revoked at ANY nuke plant, period.  A positive test only counts against you for five years.

Hell, I got called in to work on a Sunday night, and asked my supervisor to have Security do a breathalyzer on me to ensure I was FFD even though I met the five-hour requirement.  Horror of horrors, I was sober!  Imagine that!  And yes, Scoobie will back me up on that "bouncy."

Not true, vesta.

They are just let go immediately and not offered a permanent position within the company.  That person then has to start their job search all over again, with a separate employment agency.

How can the self proclaimed "smartest people on earth" writhe about in such ignorance?

as mentioned above the test for the collision was mandated by insurance. The other three tests are brought about by bizarre DUmmie behavior. Litigation has made tests like this a serious affair-these were done for good reasons, and likely documented every step of the way. I think the DUmmy may be on his way out.

The only times I have done a pee test, is when I first started and transfers. that's it..

How is it even logically possible to "abuse" a drug testing program. More to the point why would they bother ? Drug testing equipment exactly cheap to purchase and keep compliant and that's not even including the related downtime of the employee and administration costs of performing the test.

Ergo - they don't do that shit unless they have good reason to do so. Like they suspect you're using drugs or for insurance compliance or what not.

Or they're legally required to test so many employees.

Or they're legally required to test so many employees.

Like you said, CDL license holders are required to be tested yearly (mandatory), randomly, and after a accident involving company equipment (insurance company requirement).

I rarely got a random test, only 3 in the 20 years I drove a truck, but one guy we worked with got hit with 3 in one year!
Boss claimed it was all done by computer, but did dismiss the last one since he's already had 2 in 3 months.

Outside of pre-employment screenings (for both Walmart and the USPS), I haven't had one in 4 years, but could pass one right now if necessary.
Why?
Because my family and my means of providing for them mean more to me than any temporary high I could get from ingesting an illegal chemical compound.

Exactly my thoughts. You are done in a few short months. Finish to the end and move on. Geez
