I'm starting to piss off Republican friends and family
I can't keep silent when they intentionally misrepresent things.
Like the whole stupid "he didn't build that" thing. They KNOW what "that" refers to but intentionally take it out of context, every single time. And I call them on it every single time.
And calling Obama a socialist. I call them on that every single time too. They either have no idea what a socialist is, or they are intentionally lying.
I'm worried that some of these relationships won't survive the election. But I can't keep silent. I figure if they're willing to risk it, then so be it, I will be willing too.
How is everyone handling this? And what specific issues are you arguing about?

1. Politics has affected my family relationships also.
I try to bite my tongue but sometimes I just cant hold back.

4. I'm in the same boat, and it's really difficult, sometimes
My elderly mom and aunt watch fox practically 24-7 and hold what they hear to be nothing but the truth. Doesn't matter if you present them with direct evidence of the lies and misrepresentations. They don't want to know. I've tried arguing, reasoning, and at times flat out laughing but now I just shake my head and change the subject. Nothing will get through to them. It's like I've told numerous people, fox news is like intellectual crack. Watch enough of it and your brain will atrophy.
I've even been 'de-friended' by a super catholic tea party cousin who seems quite convinced I'm beyond salvation. Funny, I think the same about him.
Bullshit, DUmmies can not prove or list one incident when Fox News has lied.

5. I'mpissing off old classmates on facebook who post those stoopid
right-wing talking points...I post rebuttals from 99%, Raw Story, Truthout, politicus, rolling stone, move on, etc. I'm pissing them off and I don't care!
Those lefty sources are the equivalent of WND, worthless.

7. I'm right there with you
I have friendships over 20 years old that are ending and family relationships that are strained. Its just very very difficult to know Republicans.
I have a simple method for liberals on my friends list on Facebook, the ones that are left , anyway. I don't post comments to their political posts, and most don't post to mine. Friendships can be maintained when you're both willing to let politics go for awhile.

It's good to see that my mental mold of what a DUchebag is has not changed much in 5 years.

Even if you try to defend that statement "in context" he's still wrong.
The reality is those businesses built those roads just as much as any tax payer, and as a matter of fact they have paid much more than the average person for that road through gas taxes and other assorted fees. This BS that they got a free ride is, is wrong.
Then if you listen to his condescending tone towards those businesses, how dare he claim now that he has their back? He was being snarky and claiming that the business owners didn't work any harder than anyone else when odds are they have put in hours that would make the average DUmmy's head explode. Most of the DUmp thinks a 40 hour week is oppressive, can you imagine any of them fools working 100 hours in one week? Can you imagine any of them fools not taking a vacation for several years? Can you imagine them fools actually working?
-
Just starting? :rotf:
They even lie with something as simple as that. We know he/she/it has been pissing off Republican friends and family for years with his/her/its stupidity.
-
The entire taking his statement out of context thing is as much a joke as what the definition of "is" is.
You stupid fools are dumber then he is as you keep repeating something the average person knows is a lie.
-
I don't get angry at my libtard friends. I pity them.

I'm beginning to. The older I get the less I suffer fools.

Dye your hair bright red, get an airsoft gun and spray flat black paint in a nice even coat over the whole thing, including the orange thing on the front. Then dress in your black anti-Globalist riot clothes and run down the street screaming your political message with it. That'll solve everyone's problem real quick, not just yours and your family's, but also the electorate's and the gene pool's.

Either it was a poorly thought-out series of sentences (well, that's basically a given) or your relatives are correct. "That" could not possibly refer to "roads, bridges, etc." As others have pointed out, he's wrong even if you consider the overall point of the speech.
As I've noted, the spin on the meaning of the word that is nothing but a pathetic attempt at damage control, and this guy has bought hook, line, and sinker.
Oh, and I might as well mention again, for Obama to add " many wealthy, successful businessmen want to give something back" takes the speech to another level of absurdity.
It has just occured to me that I might not be so irritated if not for the number of people who buy what Obama is selling! I swear, some of his supporters even seem to live vicariously through him.
-
Wait a minute, that liberal has friends?
-
Even if you try to defend that statement "in context" he's still wrong.
Ever notice how conservatives never get to defend a statement in context, but libs always do?

And O may be correct. There may be wealthy, successful businessmen who want to give back. But how much of their stuff and who it goes to should be that individuals decision. I applaud Charlie Sheen giving $1M to the USO, but would not have bitched if he gave it to Greenpeace instead. His money, his decision...

I meant that he made it sound as if people who run businesses aren't already having to "give something back."

Usually when I see posts from idiots like that...I have a pretty clear mental image of them being the outcast at any family function...the one that family members roll their eyes over when they hear that person has been invited to Thanksgiving...Christmas etc.
DUmmies like gollygee are the distuptors at any family get together because instead of enjoying family and freinds...they continue to make everything political.

Hi5.
This is very true. Every Thanksgiving you can roll over to the DUmp and just feel the loneliness. They have no idea why they are ostracized by their own families as they are incapable of self critical thought.
As pathetic as DUmmies might be, I feel no sympathy for them. This is a hell of their own making.
-
And calling Obama a socialist. I call them on that every single time too.
Oh, is there something wrong with Socialism? You DUmmies crave Socialism, why are you trying to distance Obama from the concept?

Allow me to translate:
Every holiday, I come home wearing my
emo/hipster clothes, hair dyed a different color, and my favorite Che t-shirt, with something new pierced. When they start talkibg about Dear Leader, I interupt them with talking points I got from Jon Stewart, #OWS twitter, my facebook posts, and of course DU. When my family starts making sense, then shake their heads in silence with pity on their faces, I smile and laugh, pretending everything's okay.

I highly doubt your politics has anything to do with it since your viewpoints are too stupid to warrant consideration. My guess is you need to take a bath. Use water and soap this time.
.

It takes a really sick mind to alienate a family member or a friend over a political affiliation. :loser:

Yep TXRG. I can hear the conversation before the dummy shows up to the family gathering... "now listen up everyone, don't say anything about Obama or anything political around cousin dummy and if he/she/it starts it, bite your tongue!!!! We will not have the holiday ruined like it was the last 5 years!!".
Pretty sad in my opinion.

I don't have any. I would never be friends with a liberal.

I wouldn't VOLUNTARLY be friends with a lib, but I have a cousin that could pass for DUmmie gollygee in a heartbeat.
College educated (degree in business from VT no less, I'm DAMNED glad I didn't go there!), both parents were public school teachers, only child.
DUmb beyond belief!

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! A DUmmie got a degree in business? Are you sure he is a liberal? I thought liberals only majored in art history, miming, or horticulture?

Oh, quite sure. He claims his politics to be "slightly left of center", which is DUmmiespeak for "slightly right of Marx", and describes him to a "T".
Believes Barry and the EPA are the greatest things to happen to this country since Wilson and FDR, and claims Carter was a great president, believes in Globull Warming, and constantly attacks our congressman for not supporting "crap and tax", even though our PREVIOUS congressman (Rick Boucher) lost in 2010 because he SUPPORTED it.
Basically, he's an over-educated moron, an Obama clone.

I have many that are grandfathered in. One today sent my link to a current youtube but I'm at ground zero for moonbats.

It could very well be that he is a independent/social liberal. Which is possible. But for a liberal to have a business degree? That isn't possible.

Especially since "roads and bridges" weren't the only examples he used. Maybe the teachers built the roads and bridges during their summer vacations.

I was going to send you a link to his Facebook page and let you see for yourself.
However, his page seems to have been suspended or deleted.

They do. They're called jobs.

I don't know what's miswired in Dummies that make them so stupidly rabid. I have a liberal friend on Facebook. She lives in Boston so her beliefs are understandable. She posts her crap and I post mine. We don't fight about it, argue about ignore cry and disown over it.
The other day she posted a link to a petition for a new assault weapons ban because of the Colorado shootings. I nicely replied I couldn't support such a thing because it was blaming an inanimate object for the actions of a psycho. She gathered a few likes and I gathered supporting comments. She came in the next day and thanked us for our opinions and respectfully disagreed because that was how she felt about it.
No foam. No saliva. No feces. No hate. No tears.
We acted like adults.
You DUmmies should try it sometime.
