Christian B&B Owners Ordered to Pay Fines to Gay Couple

I have to agree with the Court on this one.
When someone opens a business to the general public they can post signs of "No shirt, No shoes, No service "
Health laws, no one can bring a Goat into the building, no one can be employed if they are on drugs or have a communicable disease to work in the Kitchen.
Run a B&B, unless a customer is obviously drunk or drugged, the owner has no right to speculate on what the customer may or not do that could be against their own religion.
There are strict rules for customers at some very high end restaurants, men, jackets and ties, woman no jeans or shorts. No base ball caps or T Shirts.
However, people regardless of religion, race or life style must be all treated the same. To make rules on a persons supposed sex life or mental faith is nothing but Controll over others and that is not acceptable.
-
So a private business can't dictate what they sell to or rent to? seems like the freedom of religion thing should have covered them since pharmacists (I think) can still not sell the morning after pill based on the religion ruling
-
Let me get this straight.
A couple of faggots announce their faggotry in the process of booking a room at a B&B. The proprietors of that establishment object by claiming they have no provision to house said faggots and refuse to accommodate them.
Can you imagine cleaning the room/changing the sheets on that bed after the faggots have departed? Damn, call the exterminators.
I think faggots should be required to pay $500 in a cleaning fee.
But back to the point -- the faggots are discriminated against? To the tune of $4,500?
O, Canada! WTF happened to you people?

This what I mean about in your face homosexuals!!! They don't get their way, and they have a tantrum. $4500.00 in fines?? That is a bit overboard. I agree with Gina, a privately owned business should be able to deny or accept a reservation for any reason. I feel bad for this couple, they were elderly(probably old school and very religious). They had to close their B&B because a couple of boys had a temper tantrum!!!

This is 1 of the problems I have in my support of gay marriage, businesses need to be protected, there are plenty of businesses out there that will happily hold your wedding, reception, do your catering, do your photography, no need to demand someone go against their beliefs. How long before Churches are forced to perform the ceremonies? and if they don't they lose their tax exempt status?

Float like a butterfly
Sting like a bee
We're queer, we're here
To destroy your B & B

Though it was wrong for these boys to sue for discrimination , based on the sexual orientation. Some people would say, this couple should put aside their religious beliefs, if they want the business to thrive...
I think if I had that problem, I would have consulted a business lawyer and ask his advice on how to word, my literature and/or website without the probability of being sued if my religious beliefs meant that much to me...

It boils down to the gays do not have the right to FORCE their lifestyle to be accepted by anyone. I reject their lifestyle & refuse to support it in any way. The owners of the B&B feel the same. You've got to find people who want to accept you, that's pretty much what the rest of the world has to do.

"The management reserves the right to refuse service to anyone."
-
Being a public business they can't do that. If they were a private members only business they could. But then, that is if the laws are the same in Canada as they are here, which I am not sure then.

Fine line we are walking here. Shades of the old time South. No N----can sit at the counters, White only bathrooms, White only Hotels and Motels. California after WW2 barber shops and restaurants refused to cut the hair or give food service to any Asians including returning Japanese vets from Europe.
Fine line here. Would be interesting if Asians in NYC refused service to all Muslims, or Heaven forbid the gay owners of public services refused to give Straights service. Darn NOW where do I go for a beauty appointment.
Quick story,
I babysat in the early 1960 for a family of 4 children, mother an American Indian and husband a Latino serving on the Fast Attack Jack. They had been transferred up here and I was told that as they came up the sea board they had problems in the southern states just buying milk for their little ones. People thought they were black folks and refused them service. -------
Fine line we walk when we as Germany did in mid 1930 begin to arrest shop keepers for selling to the Jews.
Goes both ways, I have seen some old time movies from the way back when the Hotel Dicks would call and have the police arrest a man and woman if they questioned they were married.
Today couple years ago a woman traveling alone was arrested when a maid discovered she had a sex toy in her luggage. The town had a law that no sex toys allowed. Nothing that could in any way be considered a sex toy could be sold, bought or owned in that town. Interesting they did have Laundry Marts operating and lots of woman leaning on the washers when they went into spin cycle.
When people go into business to public service that means THE Public, not just some of it. Unless one declares their service to be a non profit hobby, then they have no say in who the customers are for any reason beyond insurance liability and health codes.
Yes clubs, and restaurants can set a dress code for customers as can the local 7/11 and Berger King but a gas station cannot refuse to sell gas to a Baptist, a senior citizen, a teenager or anyone in a military uniform.
A business that rents out beds for the night has no darn business telling paying customers how to use those beds, one can sit on them sleep on them or have sex on them. As long as the customer does no damage to the beds, does not steal the sheets or pillowes, this Yankee calls foul------Uppitedy SOB's who is to tell me what I can or not do with a product I have paid good money to rent for a few hours.
Question here, did this B&B demand a marriage certificate from opposite sexes before renting to them ??????
-
Hotels can refuse service to people for many reasons, for example being under 21 or no credit card. It hasn't been long since they'd refuse service to any unmarried couple. Yet now a B&B can be forced to rent rooms to anyone? What if the person was a sex offender, and they had small children in the home? What if they refuse service to an unmarried hetero couple? What if they refuse service to people that are big enough to break their furniture?????
-
No conservative should ever accept the comparison of LGBLT rights to the civil rights movement.

It's Canada, Mrs Smith. Things are a little more, uh, accommodating up there, though the 1964 Civil Rights Act pretty much says the same thing here in the US.
There seems to be a giant chasm between a proprietor's right to refuse service to whomever he chooses and the "right" of a queer to frequent a B&B of his choosing and compel that proprietor to serve him.

This is what a lot of liberals are doing now. Today alone, I had three separate 'discussions' with people who are for LGBLT rights and compared them racism. I asked the one moron why he kept doing it and he said that he was taught in school that being gay is a race! I was floored. He told me that he graduated from high school less than three years ago and his civics teacher actually told that it was a race. And they wonder why the kids who graduate these days are so stupid.

At then end of the day all law is force: obey the law or the state will send people with guns to compel you to heel.
Would you send men with guns to enforce this?
