You couldn't pay me to eat freaking bird liver, no matter how much of a "delicacy" it is, but I love when liberals and their bans are ignored.
Gotta love when someone finds a loophole in idiocy.
Yahoo (http://news.yahoo.com/san-francisco-restaurant-defies-californias-foie-gras-ban-180729692.html)
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Housed in a converted infantry barracks on a former U.S. Army base, the Presidio Social Club never attracted much attention from San Francisco's avid gourmets -- until Saturday night.
That's when foie gras lovers descended on the restaurant to have their first taste of the delicacy since California imposed a ban on July 1.
Animal rights activists fought for the law because they detest the way foie gras is made: farmers force-feed ducks or geese to fatten their livers. Some fans of traditional French cuisine find the ban just as hard to swallow.
The restaurant owner, Ray Tang, and its general manager, Maureen Donegan, reasoned that the restaurant can legally ignore state law because the Presidio, now managed mostly as a national park, has remained federal property even after being decommissioned by the Army. Businesses on federal property must adhere to federal regulations, which trump state ones, they say.

I'll try anything once... tortured duck liver included.

The only form of liver I care for in Braunschweiger, on rye bread with butter, it's no skin off my nose either way. I regard poultry liver as primarily suitable for catfish bait.
On the legal points, the applicability of State laws on Federal enclave lands that are within the 'Exclusive maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States" (As opposed to partial, concurrent, or proprietary jurisdiction) is not as cut-and-dried as the restaurant guys think, there is always 18 USC 13, the Assimilated Crimes Act, which incorporates by reference into Federal law any State criminal laws from the surrounding State that aren't already covered under the Federal criminal code. The difference is, they apply as Federal law enforced by DOJ, but the State itself has no power to enforce them. Depending on whether the US Attorney for the District has a soft spot for French food, the business isn't out of the woods by any means.

This will only go on as long as Obama wishes to let it. At one time military bases would serve alcohol to those younger than state laws allowed. Also for a long time they didn't require seat belt usage, even though the host states did.

That was back when the military treated the people in it like adults and let them suffer the consequences of their bad off-duty decisions. They no longer do that, though it's a trend that started around the early 90s and has increased to make life Hell for junior commanders. There's a pretty good 'xtra-normal' video on YouTube called 'A Captain's Life' that fairly accurately portrays the level of nanny-state stupidity junior commanders have to enforce, and be held accountable for when some asshole succeeds in getting in trouble anyway, these days.

This is in Pelosi's backyard. As soon as everyone's favorite animal lovin' loony-toon, Ingrid Newkirk, calls Pelsoi, she'll tell Puppet Maobama to put an end to it.

I don't like eating regular duck. It tastes nasty. Oily, and somewhat of a tangy gross taste if I remember right. Had it at a pig roast in Ohio years ago, so I may not be fully remembering the taste. Based on what I think I remember, I wouldn't like most bird. This stuff sounds absolutely grostesque though!
I DO like pheasant though. Though, my uncle usually fills their livers with bird shot, and not food. :rotf:

I had fois gras once and that was enough. However, the PETA types can STFU.
-
I read that France is banning California Wines in retaliation for California banning fois gras. Can't imagine France actually importing much California Wine, so no idea if it'll have an effect.

Amen--even when I was in I saw plenty of it:
XO: CHIEF!!! SN Schmuckatelli was arrested for DUI over the weekend and I'm going to recommend he go to Mast.
Chief: Yes sir.
XO: Why didn't you stop him, Chief?
Chief: Cause it was Saturday night and I was at home?
XO: Has he had other alcohol-related issues?
Chief: None that I was aware of.
XO: That you WERE AWARE OF? What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Chief: Did he come in drunk? No. Did he have problems out in town? No.
XO: But because you didn't do YOUR job as a leader, he's going to Mast and losing his license, and will likely not be allowed to reenlist. This isn't going to look good on your eval, Chief.
Chief: Yes, sir.
(I wish I was kidding, but no doubt a similar conversation has occurred many, many times.)
And now we have breathalyzers on ships. Definitely not the Navy I cut my teeth in.

^Officers like that shouldn't walk too close to the catwalks.
-
Unfortunately that is the sort of shit the generals are shoving up the asses of the O5s and O6s, and they turn around and pass it down to the O3s, who then pass it on to the E7s and E6s. It's pretty damned stupid, but after teaching how bad 'Zero defects' was in officer and NCO schools for thirty years, damned if the military isn't right back in the middle of zero-defects bullshit thinking.

I bet the torture makes it extra tasty

Torture?

Torture?
You know, calling it nasty names, not letting it sleep.
Ask Danglars. He'll tell you it's illegal too.
-
Torture?
I didnt use the word I was just commenting on chris's post. Everything I have ever eaten that was "cruelty free" tasted like shit so I'm assuming that tortured animals taste delicious. Gimme some waterboarded beef or some sleep deprived pork any day.

Isn't it torture for conservatives to have to tolerate liberals ?

Isn't it torture for conservatives to have to tolerate liberals ?
But that's the beauty--we don't have to tolerate them.
However, killing them is still illegal.

I still like fried chicken livers. And gizzards. Can't say that I've ever experienced fois gras though.
