Yesterday we dialed 911 in a parking lot

We were coming out of the store about 1 P.M. yesterday. As Marta was getting into the car, the car on her side was getting out of theirs. Marta noticed there was a sheltie in the back seat. The two young ladies closed the doors, windows up. The temp was in the 90's. There were no clouds in the sky for any shade at that time. The heat index was around 110.

Marta asked the driver to please roll down the windows a little to vent the car and allow heat to leave the vehicle. The passenger said "we probably should".

The driver said "we will only be in there a couple of minutes". Marta again asked the driver to please consider the dog, and roll down the window just a little. The driver then said to her " please don't put your judgement on me mam".

I then said I had read this week that a dog left in the car in this kind of heat can die in 15 minutes time. The two headed into the store.

I called 911 and told them about the situation. It is a felony. A car arrived in 3 minutes time. I told the officer what happened. He said that the Nebraska Humane Society has to observe the act unless the dog is visibly distressed. They were on the way.

After 15 minutes the two young ladies came out of the store with only a 24 pack of beer. The officer approached them as they walked toward the car. He asked for their IDs. The cop let them off with a verbal warning and putting their info in a report for future reference.

We hope they did in fact learn from the experience.

We would do it again without a second thought.

Steve & Marta

Well, it brought a tear to my eye. I don't know how the voters could have rejected such a heroic man (well actually it was the dour Marta that approached these "dangerous" girls). But, apparently the ever prepared OS had his trusty wet bulb thermometer with him to record the heat index. What a guy.

I think it was a good deed to report this.  The question I have is: Why is it every single time a DUmmy does a deed that some would consider a good deed they must post about it?  Are they seeking validation?

Can they not simply perform an act of kindness for the act itself?  Must there be boasting?

What bothers me is that liberals like Marta and Omaha Steve are comfortable using the threat of law enforcement before any act of wrongdoing is committed.  The officer said the NHS must observe the dog in a state of distress... it was not. Second, it is hardly a felony.  It's a $200 fine in the city of Omaha.

Steve Dawes is a stinking liar who has slandered the good name of the Bellevue Police Department. He has shown us all that the good voters of the First Ward were right to reject him.

Wow and this whole time Steve was ready to punce on two young women and take them down at a moments notice.  Oh wait he didn't that was his wife and the cops. As it is it's been hot but not so hot that the short time it took those ladies to get in and out of the store caused any harm and that is a good thing. It sounds like they were at a convienance store  which ironically is called Kwik Shop and their is one in OS's Distric were he ran for office on Mission Street. There are others in Bellevue but from reading OS's post you would thing he only shops where he lives.

That has the officers.

That's it Nads?

Reminds of my husband leaving our dog in his vehicle parked in front of the Officer's Club in Florida while he ran in to pick up dinner to go (I was back home visiting family).    Some tough guy came in all in everyone's face about it and how he was going to have them locked up.

My pampered pooch was sitting in a vehicle running with the air conditioner on - my husband had just taken her for a walk on the beach.    He was picking up a 2 for 1 prime rib.  One dinner had all the side dishes, the other was just the meat - for my pampered pooch.

You have to really be a certain kind of stupid to not notice the car was running.

Exactly what I thought. The timeline does NOT add up here:

I called 911 and told them about the situation. It is a felony. A car arrived in 3 minutes time. I told the officer what happened. He said that the Nebraska Humane Society has to observe the act unless the dog is visibly distressed. They were on the way.

After 15 minutes the two young ladies came out of the store with only a 24 pack of beer.

and then later he says:

Stand down...I got a cat that never leaves the house, well unless she needs to go to the vet and I assure you that it is most unplesent in the extreme.

But take her to the vet I do, at my own peril, she has all of her nails and she makes me bleed on a regular basis.

One of the most dangerous things I do is stuffing her into that cat carrier.

This cat is pure siamese, she talks all the damn time.

I was looking for a cat that was aloof, I chose poorly.

the cop could do nothing unless the dog was in distress and they had to wait for the humane society. Would this be the same case if it had been a child? Wait for the child to be in distress or for child protective services to arrive? Both pets and children are at our mercy and I don't like this double standard.

DUmmie curmudgeoness, don't worry your empty little head about Omaha Steve's imaginary shelties. You should be concerned that one of your fellow DUmmies thinks you're stupid enough to lie to. Too bad for you that he's right.

Solution for dog owners in hot places: Take dog into the store with you. Put dog on leash, put on very dark sunglasses and pretend you're blind. DUmmies won't notice that instead of the dog leading you, you're dragging the dog. Casually accept all the government phone numbers and information they give you on how to get/scam/cheat your way to more government freebies.

I dislike the humanizing of animals. Dogs are not children are not dogs. They are not equivalent in any way. I say that as someone with a dog that we adore and of course out of common decency and concern for our animal we don't leave it in extreme heat. But our family dog is not equivalent in any way to any of my children. But that's why the dog doesn't run errands with me in the first place; because I'm well aware that places of business do not make this equivalency and it's cruel to leave an animal in the car(and annoying as shit to patrons if your animal is one of those barkers defending it's car territory). IMO, unless you are making a run that is dog specific(vet, petsmart, park, drive, etc), a family event like a picnic where dog is going with, or you are making a drive thru run--leave the pooch at home and there is no temptation for the foolish to leave the dog in the car for a few minutes because of the rest of the world isn't humanizing fluffy in the same way. It's the humanizing of animals in the first place that allows for the situation where you end up somewhere and the dog can't go in with you.

Not to mention that when the heat and sun are high the tar and cement under a dogs feet burn their foot pads like walking on a hot stove.

Seen idiots wearing shoes themselves trying to walk frantic dogs on super hot sidewalks.

Or reverse this ,people wearing 20 pounds of winter clothing walking dogs in the cold, snow and ice.   Poor dogs get frost bit and must hurt like a mother.

The local weather/news people have been saying almost daily, under no circumstances leave an animal - or child - in a car in the heat we have been having.

Sad to think that people need to be warned about something that should be common sense.

Oh yeah Deb, common sense.   I got concerned at a local air show as it was very hot and people had little tike's running about with no hats or shirts and turning as red as a turnip. No sun glasses to protect their eyes but the parents wearing them could not tell their kids were headed into a bad sun burn.

Parents had plenty of water bottles but the kids seldom had one, not even a sippie cup.

Those with dogs kept them under umbrellas and had water bowls for them.

Kids became cranky, exhausted and being cooked and parents were snapping at them.

Such is life.  Don't expect the everyday person to have common sense until our elected leaders show some themselves.

There comes a point where do-gooders become raving lunatics.

100 degrees in the summer?  Got it.  No problem.  Never going to take an animal with me if I can't help it.

70 degrees in spring with the windows partly down and stepping into convenience store for 1 minute (this happened to me)...get the **** outta my face.

Can you imagine two sweaty fat ****s walking up to you getting out of your car?  I would be hesitant to listen to them too.  But if a dog was saved then I need to give Steve one of those Cindy Sheehan hugs  :panic:

The local weather/news people have been saying almost daily, under no circumstances leave an animal - or child - in a car in the heat we have been having.

Sad to think that people need to be warned about something that should be common sense.

Common sense is the least common thing in existence.  (The second least common thing?  Common courtesy.)

OH MY GOSH!  YES!  I get so tired of people who don't hold the door open for anyone else when that person is almost directly behind them.  It takes an extra two seconds to hold a damn door.            lafjladsfjldsfjadslkfjasd;lfsjdflajsdflk;,sd

Wait a minute.  When someone goes in a door before me, I usually grab the door and hold it so they can get through, but I also hold a door open for someone else coming after me.

Of course doing that at K Mart and Walmart is impossible with automatic doors.  :-)

I have these issues at the convenience stores mostly.  I'll be right behind someone, they open the door and don't bother holding it open for a second so I can grab the handle.  They just let the door shut in my face.  It pisses me off.  I'm nice and hold the door open if someone is still locking their car door.  I hope the people who shut the door in my face get the ultimate karma ever of walking into a door or something... ugh.

I can see why this happens, our public schools are so busy teaching the youngsters about gay sex there is no time to teach deportment or manors.

I tend to do that no matter which gender that person behind me is.

And, vesta, you get an H5 from me for that.  You're dead on.

That crap is beginning to creep into southern culture where manners and courtesy was a given.

...and feminazis that cuss you out for holding a door for them should be required by law to have a big "F" tattooed on their forehead.

An big "F"?

I though a big "C" might be more appropriate.

Know what's worse?  You are coming into or out of a c-store and you go to open your door on your side and the person coming towards you instead of opening their side cut in front of you and walk out.  Like you were opening the door for them?  Forking assholes.

Should we get a Freedom of Information act to find out if in fact the Humane Society sent out a couple of people to do this? When it comes to DUmmies and doggies, Trust, but Verify.

People that don't hold the door irritate me.

People that walk through the door that I AM HOLDING FOR THEM with no acknowledgment....just flat out piss me off!

I am very good about always telling someone thank you for holding the door for me, and if it's a man that does it, I will frequently say . 'thank you, you are so kind to hold the door for me.' and smile at them. It takes all of two seconds to do so!!

When I hold the door, and there is no response?

I usually will say.....YOU ARE SOOOO WELCOME!!  In the same tone a proper Southern woman would say "Bless your heart" when they really mean "F-K you!"

It goes right over a kids' head unless their mother hears it, but I'm pretty good at making sure a man will hear it when I say it.

When they turn around and look at me like how could I possibly be so rude.... I just smile and bat my eyelashes.

And think..."F-K you".  O-)

If someone does that (holds the door open for me), I say, "Thank you very kindly."  I had one man, who held a door for me and I said that to, in the Mobil/Dunkin' near me, ask me, "Sir, are you from the South?"  I said, "No, sir, but Southern courtesy is sorely lacking these days.  I want to bring it back, one person at a time."  He asked to shake my hand at that point (which didn't have a coffee cup in it yet).  I gladly took his hand. :hi5:

As for those degenerates who don't say anything, I go my own way, because it's not worth my time or effort.  One time, I had a feminazi say something to me, so I loudly replied, "Excuse me.  I thought you were a lady, worthy of my respect.  I won't make that mistake ever again."  Said feminazi was blindsided by my response and sulked away.
