Got this off a blog, and a link from James Rawles' SurvivalBlog.

The EPA is Preparing New Regulations for Wood Stoves and Fireplaces

If you think you can escape the grasp of the regulatory monster, think again. The following is a proposal for revisions to the emissions standards for new wood heaters, but when you read the proposal it is not rocket science to figure out that this engulfs wood stoves and fireplaces (aka, “masonry heaters”) putting the EPA squarely in the middle of a prospective homeowners desire to build a truly energy independent homestead from the ground up.

The post isn't long, and the link to the EPA reg is at the blog:

Save the environment/trees/air/earth....burn DUmmies.

No more hickory smoked bacon and BBQ.

**** the EPA. We have two fireplaces, use them both, and burn lots of oak, hickory and fruit wood during the wintertime.

Oh crud.  At least it is on new stoves and they aren't forcing us to get rid of our old ones, yet.  We heat with only wood, wonder how less efficient these new stoves are going to be.

It's inescapable that all wood-burning for any purpose would eventually be roped in, if EPA is allowed to continue to regulate CO2 as a greenjhouse gas.

A little history on this, the EPA under Bush fought having to do it, hardcore environmentalist globull warming advocates took them to court and eventually the courts forced the Bush EPA to accept the task under the Clean Air Act.  The only real way to cure this is for Congress to amend the CAA to at least exempt household emissions if not just remove the CO2-as-greenhouse-gas issue from its purview.

Nothing new--just try to get an outdoor wood or coal-burning boiler to replace the one many families around here use.

Gotta love these dipshits who are going to drive up the cost of wood and pellet fuel to the point where people are literally going to DIE.

I have a brilliant idea. We capture all powerhouse and SUV generated CO2 in giant greenhouses full of DUmmies. The DUmmies die, their decomposing bodies fertilize plants and the plants turn CO2 into oxygen and food. :-)

I think it's a plan and a money maker. A win-win for us and any capitalist investors.

Our wood is free. We live next to a Frrest Preserve. I can also get as much wood as I want from neighbors who have trees trimmed or taken down. But I have two full cords now and don't need any more.

I will continue to burn wood in the fireplaces, in the outdoor fire pit, and for the smoker. Period.

The EPA admits this is going to badly hurt a lot of small business.

This is a crock of shit. Wood is the only carbon neutral fuel on the planet. Every bit of Co2 burning wood puts out was filtered out of the atmosphere by the growing tree! It works that way if the tree dies and rots on the ground too! Are they going to ban dying trees too? If you burn clean dry wood in a catalytic equipped stove you can't do any better for the environment. Very little particulate that way. More control over independence. I'll give up my stove like I'll give up my guns!
