Now, even the DU safe haven of economic policy is no longer safe from division:

If corporations are engaging in a "capital strike"
Perhaps it's time to break this strike. Time to slap some serious taxes in response.
What would FDR do?

2. Who says they are engaging in a capital strike? nt
The Magistrate (78,074 posts)
3. They Do, Sir
Their actions certainly make it obvious, and when people whose business it is to invest decline to do so, but simply hold cash, then it is quite proper to view them as 'on strike', particularly when many state demands to be met in national policy and law before they will resume their work.

5. That cash is invested
they are simply not investing it where you want them to invest it. Just where and why should they invest this money understanding that their sole goal is to make money for their shareholders?
The Magistrate (78,074 posts)
6. Not Really, Sir
Short term roll-overs and the like are not viewed as investment, but as parking cash.
One expects you know this, and are simply being deliberately obtuse, because you find it awfully difficult to speak in support of any progressive of liberal view, particularly in economic matters.

7. So where should they be investing
understanding their fiduciary duties under the law? Where will they make more on their investments?

8. I vote "deliberately obtuse"!
Parked/uncirculated money = holding the economy hostage = holding American progress hostage.
Also, The Owners, Inc. can stop pretending to be "offended" at President Obama's supposed unfriendliness to Big Business . . . only the biggest slobbering, Kool-aid drinking jackhole buys that line.

12. What exactly should they be investing in?
what if they are in an sector with slow demand? If I depended on exports to Europe, I would not be in any hurry to expand until I see how the Euro mess straightens its self out. If I was a home builder or an associated industry, I would not expand until I saw the glut of foreclosed homes off the market and demand for new construction growing.
You cannot buy demand.

16. they should be using part of that capital to hire people and give back to the community
which offers them such a pleasant business environment--the US of A.
The USA has not been a pleasant business environment since Nancy Pelosi got her hooks into it in 2007.

19. What about shareholder value and stock value?
not only do the millions with 401Ks depend on those stock values but so does everyone on a government or company pension. What do you think pension funds are invested in?
Jobs are not the only issue here.

It goes on quite a bit. I declined to port over a few sub threads for the sake of brevity but if the wannabe commies can't make a sale at DU they're doomed once they step outside the hive's echochamber.

I can't row over, as I am allergic to The Maggot, but speaking of investing, I see that Debbie Blabbermouth Schultz has a Swiss bank account and offshore investments. This was revealed after she slammed Romney for having same.

And she should be asked the same questions that she wants the American people to ask Mitt Romney.
A side note--The Heiress has come out and said that she wants Mitt Romeny to beat Barack Obama in the Presidential election. She'll be five years old in October. I didn't solicit this endorsement, nor did my wife--our daughter just came out and said it. This morning, on the way to day care, she reinforced her stance. I seem to be a decent example to her . . . :-) :yahoo: O-)

Translation:
Companies that have capital should hire DUmmies to do nothing and make nothing so companies can sale nothing to nobody in the market for nothing.
Hold your breathe a little longer DUmmies. :stoner:

In short, what is mine is mine and what is yours is mine.

So! The DUmmies want the government to force the companies to spend their money to help the economy, is that right?
What about all their boycotts aimed at hurting companies that they don't like? Even though they target a specific company, they are hurting the overall economy. Shouldn't the government force the DUmmies to buy products and services from the companies they want to boycott?

Seems like a natural 'unintended consequence.' H5.

Got an IRA, 401K or change in your couch? These locusts will get around to you eventually. These greedy maggots will never stop until the bones of this country are picked clean.

I'm not too sure that it is fair to call them maggots. Maggots, though disgusting to most, do serve a useful purpose.

True enough--maggots feed a lot of things, plus they make good fishing bait.

Have you ever tried to use DUmmies as fishing bait? I would think they would at least work for catfish.

The concentrated toxins in their tissues would produce a fishkill in the millions.

Our oldest, (13) did something similar a few days back. She saw a clip of Obama on the news and said 'Nobody wants to hear anything you say, Obama' and left the room. And like you, we have left our kids free of politics, and don't even discuss politics in front of any of them.
But then again, one of her friends said to our daughter that (Paraphrase) 'she should write for the paper of something, because the world needs to share in her criticism.'.. Excellent. She is no intellectual slouch either. She is going into 8th grade, and has been in AP math & science since last year. I already know she has been enrolled in high-school algebra for this coming season, I don't know what she will be doing in Science. Her younger sister will be going to an accellerated learning program starting next year (4th grade) before going to the Charter school with her sister, and the boy (Just turned six) already knows multiplication and division. None of them dumb. And at least one trending conservative.
