Title: Best current TV shows
Post by: Ralph Wiggum on July 11, 2012, 01:05:24 PM
I watch mostly sports & rarely any network TV. But I'm into a bunch of cable shows.  Here is how I rate them:

1) Breaking Bad
2) Dexter
3) Mad Men
4) Sons of Anarchy

I know a few of you are big fans of "Justified". I haven't caught up yet & think I would enjoy it.

Discuss...

I like it and think it's already been given a second season.

True Blood
White Collar
Burn Notice
The Closer
The Glades
Justified
Eureka (It's the last season for it)
Lost Girl
Doctor Who

I have an antennae and no cable for my TV, so I get all of 13 channels   I've watching the Olympic Trials and Big Bang Theory lately.

If I had cable I would watch The Deadliest Catch, Mythbusters, True Blood, and probably any number of awesome shows.  As it is, I stream all sorts of things through Amazon Prime when I have time.  I'm more of a reader than a TV watcher though.

I don't have a box from the cable company, so all my TV comes through the computer.  There's not a lot of "new" stuff on Netflix or Amazon but there are some good shows.

Breaking Bad
Wheeler Dealers
Fifth Gear (UK)
The IT Crowd
Life on Mars (both versions)

I bought the first season DVD, I don't have Showtime but I heard it was a good show.  Very funny stuff, and William H. Macy is hilarious as Frank the Plank.  I could do without all the gay stuff though.  Is season 2 any good?

BBC America has been showing the show 24/7 for the couple weeks it seems. The don't show the new episodes.

Yes, I know, because my DVR has DVR'd all of them, and almost maxed out the memory.  I have to go in and delete the ones I have seen daily.   That usually means they are going to come out with a new season soon.  I hope.   My favorite still is the African Trip with the Opel Cadet.  Oliver!!

The first one that I saw was the Bolivian trip.  I damn near had an asthma attack from it, I was laughing so hard.  The conversion of the harvester into the snowplow with the flamethrower was good, too.

My favorite episodes are the ones where they tried, and failed, to destroy the Toyota pickup truck and the one where the Hamster came back after his crash in the rocket car at 280+ MPH.

Suits

So far, this is the only reference to this show I've seen on this thread. I think this may be the best show on television right now. And I watch a ton of TV.

My top shows: Burn Notice, Franklin and Bash, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Castle

Other shows I watch regularly: Royal Pains, Necessary Roughness, Coast Guard Alaska, Flying Wild Alaska, Happy Endings, Revenge, Community, Top Gear (BBC), Covert Affairs, Last Man Standing, Rizzoli and Isles, White Collar, Cougar Town, Archer, Tosh.0, Whale Wars, Hardcore Pawn, Wilfred.

Some shows that I've jumped on recently, but look promising: The Newsroom (don't get HBO so should be fun looking for bootleg versions), Falling Skies, Common Law, Bunheads (a little less impressed by the show itself, but Sutton Foster and the mother-in-law are fun characters).

That's okay. I was just curious. I think it was on Netflix for a while a few months ago.

They do change from time to time. I was in the middle of an episode of Wire in the Blood when that show went away for a while. Then it was back but I was out of the mood.

All their specials are pretty good. The Vietnam trip is funny just to see how miserable Clarkson is. I mainly watch the show for the challenges rather than the cars.

The one thing I don't really like about the show is how Harvey just seems intent on making enemies even when they're extending olive branches. You can not trust someone and keep a protective distance, but he just completely shuts down guys like Louis even though he could be an asset.

Yeah, but Louis ....come on. Bugging Harvey's office to get the scoop on what's going on? He's a bitch.

I'm sure we'll find out why Harvey shuts people down, though. Lots of backstory. Probably started when he was in the DA's office.
