Cops: Officer shoots, kills man who pointed gun at him

Source: Chicago Tribune

By Liam Ford

A Chicago police officer shot and killed a man who pointed a gun at him after the officer and his partner chased the man for a few blocks in the Greater Grand Crossing area this morning, police and a union spokesman said.

The shooting took place a little after 5 a.m. in the 500 block of West Winneconna Parkway, when a man pointed a gun at a Gresham District officer who then shot him, according to a news release from police.

The man was believed to be in his 20s, said Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 spokesman Patrick Camden.

The Independent Police Review Authority was investigating a police-involved shooting at that location, but did not have details, a spokesman said. The Cook County medical examiner's office had been notified of a death there, but also did not have details.

FULL story at link.

I wonder how the cavers will react to this?

The union stands up for the officer "police and a union spokesman said", so they will now be pro union?

7. What cavers? what are you talking about?

hostile act. Hostile intent. If someone aims a firearm at you, you are damn foolish, if you have the capability, not to fire on him/her.

It's one of the basic 3, global, ever present rules of engagement for our military.

You'd rather the officers or bystanders get shot?

I was pointing out to a certain crowd that the union is backing up the officer, as it should. That group loves guns and hates unions (and me )

Steve supports police unions except Winsconsin

All you idiots do is show your complete stupidity at being unable to distinguish between a person doing their job and showing courage and a political organization that extorts members and in the case of public unions, taxpayers, for power and wealth.

Like we care what happenes in Chicago. Why didn't OmahaSteve go bleating about ther shooting in Omaha that left two dead and one wounded? This is one reason you lost your run for office. You tiny mind was more concerned about shit that had nothing to do with Bellevue rather then work on the problems at hand. Idiot. Untill the cops finnish  their investigaion it's a litle early to call it totally justified and also where was OS support for the cops when they shot some guy in NYC 40+ times?

I think this post is some sort of lame response to BD's epic tale of love, lust, triumph & defeats he is starring in.

More then likely. He can't do much of anything else from behind his computer screen and watching reruns of old tv shows.

I could care less what some paid union mouthpiece has to say, but I will congratulate the officer on removing one more Democratic voter from the gene pool.

Rarely do I have a problem with police or firefighter unions, but teachers unions?  That is a whole nother kettle of fish, rotten fish at that.

Rarely do we here about police unions protecting pedophiles or making it harder to prosecute pedophiles like the teachers unions did recently in California.

A Union Rep Taking advantage of a Justifiable shooting for a press op.  Not surprising in the least.

What was NOT surprising in the OP was that it was strictly cut/paste, with no additional commentary other than a reference to the Cave.

This is the type of Nadinesque Non Crunchy posts that has been his style recently.  I am beginning to suspect that Nads/Steve are one entity (a rather large one).  No one has ever seen a photo that includes both of them (necessitating a wide angle lens on the good rig.

With Steve's only comment being a reference to the Cave, one might get the idea that he is obsessed with it.

I suspect he blames The Cave for his poor election showing, the same way other DUmmies blame franksolich for Andy's death. Both notions are absurd on their face, but that's the way it goes over there.

Why don't we go one better, and blame Conservative Cave and I for killing Khephra ? Years before it existed, miskie traveled back in time using VRWC tech with some posts from Conservative Cave on a never-before-seen iPhone that so enraged Khephra, they caused him to keel over behind his computer.

There you go DUmmies, now run with it !

I have also noticed a very strong resemblance between Steve, Nads and Ben Jammin. You will also notice Benny is very secretive about his mother and father.  I tried to imagine the coupling that would result in such a travesty but start vomiting uncontrollably every time.

Uh.... let me see if I can dumb this down to your level, stevie boy.

Our dislike of unions has to do with them using their influence and power in unsavory and hurtful ways towards the company that employs them.  In the place where unions exist, the example you gave is the type of thing one would expect them to do.  What they don't need to be doing is demanding $100K/yr for an auto assemblyline worker to stand there all day and just close the gas tank door.

I don't hate unions, I would like to see them jettison their chronically injured, consistently underperforming, dead weight who's only qualification is seniority, with someone that actually performs the function to the given standard.

I don't hate you, I just enjoy watching you being held to your own words and true political views.  The last time I checked, copying and pasting someones posts on a public discussion board didn't constitute hate, but hey it's your story so stick to it.

I don't love guns, guns are inanimate objects.  I love my children, my wife, and my family.  I do enjoy the right to possess guns, but I can see where this point confuses you so we'll just stop here to avoid straining those overburdened remaining brain cells.

SO once again OS, you don't know shit about this site collectively and/or individually.

The dead kid (yeah he was 19)...a Marquise Sampson, now that sounds like a BLACK kid to me, shades of Trayvon Martin, but lauded instead, by the fat waste of skin named Steve Dawes.

As for the officer being a member of the union, and the union having his back, well, the union EXTORTS dues from the officer on a regular basis, the officer should have a reasonable expectation of getting something back from them in return.

I cannot imagine that anyone here "hates" Socialist Steve Dawes. He's just a fat, DUmb, lazy union slug. There's nothing there to hate. He's a pathetic, comical character who is just a caricature of the prototypical labor union drone.

And while we may hate the effects of mindless, money-gobbling, extortionate public unions, you cannot find anyone here who does not enthusiastically support police officers and the vital jobs they do. Police officers man the barricades between civilization and the howling socialist mobs of the democrat party.

Hey Steve ,How do you explain this to the people of Omaha from your employer no less.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/48142398/ns/local_news-omaha_ne/

Several area businesses say they may have no other choice but to move because of rising sewer fees in Omaha.

The business that comprise SaveOmahaJobs.org said increased sewer fees they're paying as part of a federally mandated overhaul have them at a breaking point.

The group claims 4,000 jobs are directly at stake.

The city estimates the overhaul will cost $2 billion. The 19 largest water users in Omaha -- most of which are members of the business group -- have to collectively pay about $100 million of that.

Last I heard it was only supposed to cost $1 Billion to fix the sewers. I guess Dems love to spend other people cash .

I wouldn't mind unions at all, if they actually worked for the benefit of the employees and the company, rather than to benefit their own selfish need for money and power.
Todays unions just suck. They're a business unto themselves to benefit themselves, and could care less for the worker.
If self avowed socialist Steve Dawes, was more adept at lying, cheating and stealing from his co-workers, he, too could be a union crony.

If you get shot at regularly in your line of work, maybe you need a union.  If you charge into flaming buildings to rescue families, maybe you need a union.

Teachers and city waterworks employees don't require unions.
