The White House on Monday sent a scathing letter to NBC News, accusing the news network of “deceptively†editing an interview with President Bush on the issue of appeasement and Iran.
At issue were remarks Bush made in front of Israel's parliament earlier this week.
Specifically, White House counselor Ed Gillespie laments that the network edited the interview in a way that “is clearly intended to give viewers the impression that [Bush] agreed with [correspondent Richard Engel's] characterization of his remarks when he explicitly challenged it.
“This deceitful editing to further a media-manufactured storyline is utterly misleading and irresponsible and I hereby request in the interest of fairness and accuracy that the network air the President’s responses to both initial questions in full on the two programs that used the excerpts,†said Gillespie in the letter to NBC News President Steve Capus.
Gillespie used the opportunity to also inquire whether NBC News still believes that Iraq is in the midst of a civil war. In November 2006, the network decided to label the infighting in the country a “civil war.â€
“I noticed that around September of 2007, your network quietly stopped referring to conditions in Iraq as a ‘civil war,’ †Gillespie wrote. “Is it still NBC News’s carefully deliberated opinion that Iraq is in the midst of a civil war? If not, will the network publicly declare that the civil war has ended, or that it was wrong to declare it in the first place?â€

Video: Karl Rove responds to NBC News:
http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2008/05/white-house-blasts-nbc-for-deceitful.html
Karl Rove agreed that NBC deliberately edited the president.
Rove added that NBC has a real problem, "We are starting to see the journalistic standards of MSNBC, which are really no standards at all, creep into the NBC which is a respected news organization."

NBC pays this
pansy douchebag guy to hyperventilate for half an hour every week... I don't think "journalistic standards" is part of their vocabulary.
Tonight, Keith Olbermann unleashed what may well have been his angriest, most blistering Special Comment () yet, aimed squarely at his favorite target: President Bush. Olbermann was responding to Bush's claim that he had given up golf in honor of the Iraq war — and his assertion that a Democratic president withdrawing from Iraq would "eventually lead to another attack on the United States" — a statement Olbermann called "ludicrous, infuriating, holier-than-thou and most importantly bone-headedly wrong." Olbermann continued in that vein for a full 12 minutes, frequently raising his voice and spitting out his words in disgust. (oooh, that should impress the limp-wristers and metrosexuals at the HuffPo) :-)

Yes, it's unreal how the Today Show edited and butchered President Bush's remarks to fit their pro-Obama agenda, which is to suck and kiss Obama's ass 24/7. Then they wonder why they have a credibility problem - this is almost to be expected by MSNBC, but NBC should be held to a higher standard, and that's what the WH did here.

The liberal media has absolutely no idea what journalistic ethics are - to tell the whole story and let the consumer judge.

What I wonder is......when is the White House going to put some teeth into their position.....a good start would be publicly stating that NBC would get no more interviews with the President unless a C-Span camera was present to make certain that the entire interview was either shown intact, or not edited to compromise the content of the responses. Or how about revoking the credentials of the offender from the White House press corps? Come on guys, grow a pair.....
I'm in the TV business, and if a member of my news organization aired a piece like this on the President of the United States, editing the content in a manner that did not EXACTLY convey the POTUS's remarks, regardless of what party he is a member......the "on air" talent, producer, editor(s), and possibly the News Director (if he/she viewed it before air) would be cleaning out their desks before close of business the same day.........
This kind of bias will eventually destroy the television news buisness if allowed to continue......and frankly it is long overdue......"news" in TV is pretty much a loser financially, perhaps the industry will ultimately get smart amd leave it to the cable news folks.....

Saw the interview with Rove on Fox. I cannot believe how brazen NBC is!!! I hope the WH does a little more than just issue a strongly worded letter. This needs to be shouted from the rooftops.

That much hate must be eating Olbermann inside. :-)

that letter kicked ass... finally, FINALLY they are speaking up.

the mainstream media never has...
that is why Thomas Jefferson DEMANDED the first amendment...
not only to protect us from government monopoly of news/media, but PRIVATE media as well...
in fact I think Jefferson feared abuses from the private more than the 'government', since he knew that government can & usually is controlled by the 'private' in the western world...
jefferson knew the ONLY way to keep ONE tyrant from controlling all media ,was to protect competition ...
hence, the first amendment...

I don't understand why Repubs are so damn stupid. The Prez knows that this ass-hat is a liberal and has an agenda. The thought of this reporter being fair boggles my mind. For someone that is supposedly intelligent (GWB), he is dumb as a rock to allow himself to be interviewed by this turkey. If Bush had any balls, he would punish NBC by not giving anymore interview and putting their reporters in the back of the conference room and not allow any of them to question the Prez or his Press Sect.
