New Jersey surgeons removed a rapidly growing, 51-pound cancerous tumor from a woman who had delayed treatment for more than a month until she became eligible for health insurance, her doctor said on Tuesday.

"She was a skinny lady with a huge belly. I mean it looked like she was literally pregnant with triplets," said Dr. David Dupree, who led the surgery on the 65-year-old woman, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, N.J.

"She was just all belly," he said in describing his first meeting with the patient, a homemaker from nearby Union Beach, N.J., who asked to be identified only as Evelyn, her first name.

About six to eight weeks before she showed up at the hospital, Evelyn noticed discomfort in her abdomen and that her normally 120-pound frame was rapidly ballooning. Dupree said she sought medical help on June 4, just days after her 65th birthday, when she would qualify for Medicare.

Oh no! Those terrible hospitals and insurance companies !!11!! --But wait, it seems the primitive (and all those responding so far) have yet to finish reading the linked article. Here is the closing statement.

Dupree said he would advise uninsured patients to see a doctor immediately if they knew they were unwell no matter how near their 65th birthday might be. He said the hospital would have operated on Evelyn regardless of her insurance status.

But but but..  Those for-profit hospitals and insurance companies are evil, right ?

The DUmmies don't look at anything other than their entitlements. Look for someone to make a comment about them doing the operation to her without insurance would have passed the buck onto someone else.

So she is one of the "free riders" that Nancy et al are referring to who deserve to receive a penalty for not having insurance?

Bela is talking about free riders, but as is so often the case, she doesn't know what she is talking about.

That's the kind of citizen the democrat party wants to turn all of us into--so cowed by tptb that a 51 pound lump in her belly wasn't enough to scare her out of submission.

This person not having insurance is entirely her responsibility.  Sure, her employer may not have insurance as a benefit.  That should not have stopped her from buying insurance.  If she is healthy and only taking a few meds, BP and a statin, she could have purchased a catastrophic and cancer policy only.  set her deductible over 5K, pay cash for appointments and her meds.  I would bet that her premium would have been cost efficient.

It is the declaration of Independence, not Dependence

But, but what about the children  ?

What will this do to the fragile sensitive 2 girls when their Daddy looses his job.

Poor children, they will have to move to another location give up their friends, go to new schools, their Mom no longer gets to dress up in designer clothing and all that wonderful Jewelry.

What about the boy friends they must leave behind, will they now have to eat mothers cooking and washing the dishes ???

These kids have no idea what it is to grow up in a military family moving about and some times having to live in Temp. Housing and have to change schools 3 times in a year.

Got to think about the children, they need another 4 years to settle in, to fire their daddy is to put the girls at risk of phobias and mental problem down the line.   Will Daddy do a Joe Kenedy and send the girls to have the 1/4 white removed from them ???  Or hypnotised to wipe out all memory of Dads mother ??????

We know the girls will get SS protection for years to come, but will that extend to BO the dog ????   I am sure some Meany told them about Clinton's best friend that had no one watching him----RIP Buddy.

I am very worried about the children, as I am sure all the liberals are and the SPCA on little BO.

I think when that major tumor is removed, the lesser one will shrink to nonexistence.
