Obama tells Tenn.'s GOP: 'Lay off my wife'

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrat Barack Obama has a message for Tennessee's Republican Party: "Lay off my wife."
Obama, his party's presidential front-runner, and his wife, Michelle, were asked in an interview aired Monday on ABC's "Good Morning America" about an online video last week by the state's GOP taking her to task for a comment some considered unpatriotic.

"The GOP, should I be the nominee, can say whatever they want to say about me, my track record," Obama said. "If they think that they're going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful because that I find unacceptable, the notion that you start attacking my wife or my family."

He called the strategy "low class."

The video, posted on YouTube, centered on remarks Michelle Obama made while campaigning in Wisconsin last February, when she said: "For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country."

The four-minute video replayed the remark six times, interspersing it with commentary by Tennesseans on why they are proud of America. In a news release that included a link to the video, Tennessee's GOP said "the Tennessee Republican Party has always been proud of America." It urged radio stations to play "patriotic music" during Michelle Obama's visit to Nashville last Thursday.

Michelle Obama later clarified the remark, saying she meant she was proud of how Americans were engaging in the political process and that she had always been proud of her country.

"Whoever is in charge of the Tennessee GOP needs to think long and hard about the kind of campaign they want to run, and I think that's true for everybody, Democrat or Republican," Obama said in the ABC interview, adding: "These folks should lay off my wife."

Well for starters, ain't none of us gonna lay on your wife.   :whatever:

Second, you idiot, if you're going to use your wife in your campaigns, you can expect this in return.  If you can't control what she says, then keep her out of it.

Third, where's your criticism of the DNC attacks on the Bush daughters???

1. What track record?

2. If she inserts herself into the campaign, she's fair game!

3. How long before the Tenn. GOP is called racist, and then pulls the ad?

Note to Barakstar!

Your wife has made HERSELF an issue in this campaign.

If that is unacceptable to you...tell her to STFU and go take care of the kids.

She opens her mouth...she goes out and stumps for you...ANYTHING she says on your behalf is fair game.

when you hit the campaign trail, you are fair game.  and when you say some of the insane crap that has come out of your
mouth, you make yourself a lightning rod.

When Michelle decides to STFU and park her behind in a chair behind you while you speak, then people will stop taking her to task for the bullshit she spews.

I'm counting down the moments until the Oooobama campaign brings out the KKK, Forrest or some other racist nonsense given that this is Tenn. Oy vey....

did you catch SNL over the weekend? McCain had two spots on it - one where he implored the Democratic Party not to hurry too much to get their nominee.. it was hilarious.

his best line: "Imagine how exciting it will be to NOT know who the nominee is AFTER Denver!" :-)

a LOT of the people that vote in dem primaries agree with the treasonous crap that comes out of her mouth.  let's see how it all plays in the general.  either she does a 180, or the slap a muzzle on her.  or they send her to africa for two months, like they did with the good rev. wright.

It takes a weak man to send his wife and subordinates out as Land-Mine Detectors. They say or do anything that might be considered provocative, and his response is determined by the aftermath..

No Explosion = Full Agreement.
Kaboom = Plausible Deniability.

I may not like any of the Dems running, but the one thing that Hillary has over Obama is big brass balls hidden in those pantsuits. I can respect her for that. Or maybe its that big helping of crazy she has during dinner every night. I can respect that too. Either way I suppose.

Non-Kool Aide America to the Obamas: Lay off this Country!

That's about it. BO wants a big on-going dialogue with any terrorist nation, but he tries to give you a big list of "dos and don'ts". Arrogant twit - there's a big rumor out that Hillary's got ahold of one of Michelle not-my-belle Obama's anti- American tirades and is going to release it Thursday.

I wonder

what Borat Hussein Osama's reaction to how the defeatocrats treated Laura Bush leading up to G.W.'s first election to the POTUS.

I seem to remember the defeatocrats were attempting to dig up as much dirt on her as they could.

I guess when defeatocrats attack a candidates wife it's okay, but when the tables are turned on them they get outraged.

The only good democrat is a ....... one.

well, she cant really. Hilary was proud to break the mold of First Ladies as women of leisure. She wanted to be a working First Wife and she was - although she was hugely a failure at almost everything she touched. Much like she has been in the Senate; she hasnt produced anything of substance for the state of New York to date.

so, asking people to lay off Michelle.... nah, we dont have to.

well, that's their campaign cry of "they're being mean to a GIRL!" instead of, "they're being critical of a person campaigning for the White House"
