Singles try to sniff out love at pheromone parties

LOS ANGELES — Sniff your way to love? Singles who have attended so-called pheromone parties haven't ruled it out.
The get-togethers — which have been held in New York and Los Angeles and are planned for other cities — ask guests to submit a slept-in T-shirt that will be smelled by other participants.
Then, voila! You can pick your partner based on scent, of so the theory goes.
The parties started out as an experimental matchmaking fest by a California woman weary of online dating, but it turns out they also have a root in science. Researchers have shown that humans can use scent to sort out genetic combinations that could lead to weaker offspring.
At a dimly-lit art gallery in Los Angeles on a recent night, partygoers huddled around several tables covered with plastic freezer bags stuffed with shirts and an index card bearing a number. Once they found one they liked, a photographer snapped a picture of them holding the bag and projected it onto a wall so the shirt's rightful owner could step forward and meet his or her odor's admirer.
Umm . . . oooookay.

I prefer a "clean smelling" woman, myself. O-)

There are pleasant and unpleasant natural body odors, and not everyone perceives them alike. The thesis is a little flawed, though, since smell and pheromone detection are actually different senses. There is some scientific debate over whether humans, or all humans, can actually detect and distinguish pheromones since the organ that does this is pretty close to vestigial in people. If it does work, it is in the nasal passage, but our fairly-sensitive sense of smell input generally overwhelms any pheromone detection going on there.

This I understand, smells are from the past and present that have a revelence to the smellier.
Me I get a stand up smell to fresh cut grass, first time in the spring. I do not know why but I am much like horses finally released from wintering in a barn and froliking about in in the grass. First cut grass makes me want to roll about and and just inhale the smell, The smell of Honeysuckle or the smell of old roses makes me happy.
On to humans that spend a day cutting and bailing hay, the sweat takes on the smell of the hay and darn memories from childhood.
Smells are important , fresh bread baking, a turkey in the oven or grandmas perfume. Some other odd smells
get to us, the smell of gas and oil in an outboard mortar or the smell of diesel in a big craft.
Men I have a problem with that wear colone, I do not wear perfume myself unless I am [ or was] out head hunting.
I like the smell of a male, sweat or super clean. One thing I do not like is the smell of anything of a man but his own smell, disguised with some horrid smells from bottles.
This is just one female take on this, men may get off on perfumes women wear but I have my own take on this.

Thanks Vesta. A recollection from my youth. My father used to get "mens" magazines & in the back were advertisments for Rene Bonds "soiled" panties. Some things never change eh?

Let me know how this works out when they use some poor Infantry grunt that just spent a month in the field someplace.
