Title: i am freakin sunburned..
Post by: Lauri on May 18, 2008, 11:04:04 PM
we even used sun block... i have forgotten what this feels like.

my little 8 year old has her first burn and she is not impressed with me at all. i remember having fourth degree burns after a day at a swim park somewhere around Fort Worth when i was about 10.

for some reason, we used to put Noxema on a burn back then. and then you'd get all cold and start shivering...

it was.. miserable..

I was so sunburned once (when I was about 14) I was throwing up.  I missed the entire last week of school.  I wore a sheet for a about 10 days.  My hair was white.  I was on antibiotics to prohibit infection.  I should have been in the hospital.  I haven't had much use for the sun since.

So I know how badly you feel.   :bawl:

Damn, that's bad.  :(

I had the usual sun blisters as a kid.  A hot washcloth and a pin/needle usually took care of those.

As a kid I was admired for my level-headedness and good judgement.  That episode set me back in quite a few eyes.  It also caused me to have to be watched closely for skin cancers forty years later.

Me and the son feel your pain.......really, we do. Cheeks/nose are blood red and feel like they're on fire, the top of my ears hurt like hell and the rest just seems minor in comparison.

Went to an airshow early Saturday, stayed allllllllllllllll day and forgot the sun block. The sky was clear blue, temperture just right with a slight breeze, excellent day for the show.

im sort of suspicious of that line of thinking that says, "one bad burn as a kid could up your chances of skin cancer" ...  if that were actually the case, i think a lot of us would be keeling over from sun damage in our 20s.. :-)

I don't put a lot of store into the idea either.  The fact remains I am a blue-eyed blonde-haired white person at risk (according to medical science), so I really have no choice but to be on the side of caution.

The good news is my once covered-in-freckles (after the sever sunburn episode) shoulders have reverted through the years and could now be used in a perfume ad.

It's been quite a few years since I've had a sunburn.  I like aloe vera, but keep it in the fridge so it's extra chilly on the skin.

I was burned a few times really bad as a kid, with horrible blisters on my back.

Don't worry I'm about to join you in the burnt to toast catagory. Just started working at the local airport and even with the shack to block out the sun it doesn't make any differance because I'm not spending enough time in it to stay out of the sun. Going to be a fun summer once again.

As a youngster I was quite an idiot when it came to sun.  I sun bathed in crisco or baby oil.  Mind you I have red hair and freckles.  Even if I was in the sun every day all day all summer I would be slightly darker than Casper the ghost. :thatsright:  I don't know what the heck I was thinking.

At the beach one year I laid out in a bikini for 4 hours with oil on.  I self medicated with sleeping pills for days afterward so I would just sleep through the pain.  My stomach had cracks in it.  It was so freaking nasty.

.

Cold aloe vera is the best thing I have found for sunburn. Have gotten sunburn a few times but no blisters.

Lauri- hope you and your little girl get to feeling better.

there is this new gel stuff out - its always cold on hot skin, even if its sitting in a lukewarm cabinet in the kitchen. some tanning company makes it.. and it does have aloe in it to take the sting out.

today she is not sunburned... just pinkish under her baby blue eyes.

i am, however, still red on the front of my body..  :-)

Sunburn is nothing.
Try being young and stupid and putting that "Sun In" crap on brown hair.

I did that on my red hair.  I had the ugliest shade of bright yellow hair for months and months. :rotf:

If you aren't at least as red as a Coca Cola can, you're a piker.

Sun-In was sun protection for hair too.  We blondes appreciated it.  The sun was going to turn my hair white anyway, so I was better off using Sun-In so the sun didn't turn it into dry dead straw too.

You know that red hair and sun don't mix.

It's been years and years since I've been burned.  I've been very cautious about my skin since I was around 12.

I think last year, one day I got a little pink on my cheeks and nose.  :)  Me and sunblock are bestest friends.

I won't . I got a bottle of SPF 50 sunscreen,it'll be the least I can use and not end up looking like a zombie
