That is pathetic. It just goes to show that kids have no respect for their elders. I wouldn't be surprised if their parents act the same way. The bunch of losers.

I didn't see the whole video. Four of the bullies have been identified. One is Hispanic/Latino and other is Asian. The other two are White.

This is what happens when you let the village raise your kids instead of yourself.

If it were my boy, I'd be spending an hour profusely apologizing to that lady for my child's horrible disrespect, and then beat his ass until he could not sit for a week.  He wouldn't have to wait for the school to kick him off the bus for his bad behavior, either: I'd yank him off personally and have him walk to school for the rest of the school year, at least, no matter the distance ("takes you 2 hours to walk to school? Well, then I guess you aren't sleeping in until 10 minutes before the bus comes anymore, are you?)  I've got a deep store of parenting wisdom bestowed upon me by Senior Chief Petty Officer Dad to dip into if it were needed (I really was a little shit as a kid, and so dad had to get more "creative" with me than he did with others), and draw up measures and tactics that the child can barely comprehend exists.

Bullied bus monitor receives more than $200G in online donations

A New York bus monitor who was berated and bullied by a group of middle school students has received more than $200,000 in online donations.

Karen Klein, 68, is seen in a 10-minute viral video attempting to ignore the verbal attacks by students on a bus operated by the Greece Central School District, near Rochester, N.Y. Children on the bus hurl repeated insults and threats at the grandmother, calling her fat and at one point suggesting that her children commit suicide.

But donations have since poured in for the grandmother in hopes that she’ll take a “vacation of a lifetime,” according to fundraising site indiegogo.com. As of midday Thursday, a total of $201,925 had been received for Klein and the video had been viewed on YouTube more than 1.6 million times.

Good for her. Although she plans to return to work, on a different route and with an apology from the kids. I wouldn't go back.

So sad, but the Youtube comments are awesome. The Parents need to make these kids apologize and then punish their asses!

This made me so sick this morning, seeing it on TV.  What has become of our civilization?

I put in the Shout Box that the DUmmies had a thread about this.  For once, they did not politicize it.  For once.  Of course, they squabbled about Lionessa's hard-heartedness, and another wanted to bring back corporal punishment.

I hope this incident starts some conversations within families.

I never had kids, but as I understand it, the love you have for your kid is unconditional, and can't be shaken.  If one of those creeps was my kid, I would fall a little out of love with it.

This is what happens when there is no discipline or any way to apply it. I'd like to know where the Bus driver was on this. Most schools have a policy of kicking kids off the bus for crap like this. My father spent 15 years driving buses and he never would have tolerated this.

They just talked about this on The Five. One of the parents said his son was a good kid and he wasn't raised that way.  That may be true, because mob thinking is much different from individual thinking.

I did have an idea for punishment for these kids.  Community service was mentioned on The Five, and that is a good idea.  Make it a better idea by having that community service working in a home for senior citizens emptying bedpans and the like.

I can't even imagine what my parents would have done if I had behaved like that, but I suspect that my dad would have gotten over his squeamishness over spanking me (I bruise easily, and he was afraid that he would actually hurt me.  My mom did my spanking.)  My dad has only gotten really mad at me a few times in my life, but he is freaking scary when he is mad.

I stopped watching about two minutes in, so I'm pretty sure that I missed some of the "good stuff" that the little demons said.  If they were my kids, they would have first had a meeting with the board of education (the other one).  Then, since they like being "popular" members of the pack, I'd take away all of their electronic devices and all of their nice clothes from the Gap.  They'd also lose all free time.  Any available time would be spent volunteering at a soup kitchen or nursing home.  Maybe they'd get a healthy respect for their fellow man.

That is fantastic. When you see so many people come together and do something like that; it shows that people do care. Good for her. I hope she gets enough to retire on. I can imagine how she feels knowing that so many people are willing to help her. Probably pretty damn good. As she deserves it. God Bless her.

I still can't bring myself to watch the video.  I really hate it when our elders are treated like crap.  It's not right that anyone is treated that way, but it just seems so much more worse when it's an older person.  If my daughter ever did that to someone, she would get her ass whooped.

What comes around, goes around.

She said on CNN tonight that she wants the kids suspended from the bus for a year, and she wants them suspended from any sports for a year.

On a wonderful note: Southwest Airlines is paying for her and nine people in her family to go to Disney Land, they are paying for the whole trip which includes the flight, hotel, tickets to the park, and rental car. Now that is awesome! I wonder who else is going to come out and help her?

She is so over whelmed by all the support and compassion that she doesn't know how to accept it. God Bless her. She is such a sweet lady.

I just saw a story about this on CBS. One of the parents apologized to her and gave her a hug. She in turn asked the parent if they were going to be okay (apparently, they've gotten threats). That just goes to show how big her heart is. At least one of the parents is standing up, apologizing, and punishing his kid (although he didn't say how).

I also saw her interview with Fox and Friends yesterday. She was completely overwhelmed by the amount of money raised. She also said she doesn't think the kids should be punished criminally.

Don't punish bullies of school bus monitor, parenting expert says

Co-author of two dozen parenting books including the "Positive Discipline" series, Jane Nelson says the traditional means of punishment -- yelling, shaming, hitting, grounding, etc. -- are counterproductive.

"I think to go after these kids in a punitive way, it just doesn’t help," she said. Nelson knows that the vast majority of parents will scoff both at that notion -- and at her belief that the young bullies are merely acting out due to their own "need for a sense of significance and belonging."

I will bet 10 to 1 that the idiot who wrote those parenting books has no kids of their own. If they do, they are probably in jail or rehab. Stupid idiots don't know jack about raising kids. They make me sick.

I will probably get bitchslapped for this, however, I give Ms. Klein kudos for sitting there and putting up with all of the bullying.

However I find the monetary gain quite out of control. I say this because, many people get bullied everyday with all walks of life.

I know she wasn't expecting it and it was much appreciated, but all she wanted was the kids to aplogize and see the error of their ways...

Moral of the story, if you get bullied, get it on YouTube. We're a compassionate people I believe. It goes deeper than that, but it's Friday night, I'm drinking, and I'm watching a movie that has Halle Berry in a skin tight uniform. Winning!

A high school student who allegedly forced a special-needs classmate to drink urine was also involved in the bullying of a bus monitor three years ago.

In a 2012 video that was viewed millions of times online, grandmother Karen Huff Klein, 71, tried to ignore the boys calling her fat, ugly and poor but was seen wiping away her tears.

Now one of the students involved in this verbal attack has been accused, along with two others, of forcing a special-needs student to drink urine from a toilet while holding his crotch at Greece Athena High School in upstate New York.
