Title: National Healthcare

No, I didn't post this in the wrong forum; I'm waiting for it to appear at the toolshed...

(Reuters) - Greece's rundown state hospitals are cutting off vital drugs, limiting non-urgent operations and rationing even basic medical materials for exhausted doctors as a combination of economic crisis and political stalemate strangle health funding.

With Greece now in its fifth year of deep recession, trapped under Europe's biggest public debt burden and dependent on international help to keep paying its bills, the effects are starting to bite deeply into vital services.

"It's a matter of life and death for us," said Persefoni Mitta, head of the Cancer Patients' Association, recounting the dozens of calls she gets a day from Greeks needing pricey, hard-to-find cancer drugs. "Why are they depriving us of life?"

Greece, a member of the euro zone that groups some of the richest nations on earth, has descended so far that drugmakers are even working on emergency plans to keep medicines flowing into the country should it crash out of the currency bloc.

The emergency has grown out of a tangle of unpaid bills, with pharmacists and doctors complaining of being unable to pay suppliers until competing health insurers clear a growing backlog of unfilled state payments.

Before long Greece will be asking the UN for humanitarian aid.

Before long the Greeks will see that retiring at 50 will have to compete with actual necessities.

Like anybody else but we see here the problem with monopolies: if the provider becomes troubled whatever goods or services they produced will no longer be available. That means the consumer loses out.

This is what leftists fail to appreciate about free markets: if one producer goes down replacements will rush-in to fill the void.

The problem with socialism is it is technically a monopoly. There is only one producer: the government and that producer isn't profit motivated it is vote motivated. As all monopolies become inefficient, low quality and ultimately corrupt they doom themselves and the people they once relied upon for their success.

I know you're smart enough to understand this but this thread here is for the lurkers and so is this post; I'm just springboarding off of your post.

When the DUmmies read reports like this one, do they ever think there's a lesson to be learned when they want the US to be "just like them" ("them" being anyone and everyone that isn't the US)?

I'm guessing not.

Like every leftist before them, the DUmmies think they know how to make it work "this time".

Healthcare? The rich will pay for it

Welfare? The rich will pay for it

Education? The rich will pay for it

Transportation? The rich will pay for it

Food? The rich will pay for it

And it always comes to pass that they run out of "the rich".

How can one be "trapped" when one put themselves there in the first place?   :devious:

Because you abdicated your personal responsibility to the state, DUmbass.  If it's big enough to give you whatever you want, it's big enough to take it all away; your life included.

Some people are just too stupid to be free.

No, no, that's just rich people hoarding their wealth in offshore accounts.

You are exactly correct, Wasp. That is why for the life of me I just cannot understand why the dump has the jones for single payer national health care. The congress giveth, the congress taketh away. Me? I want to be able to fire a company that does not meet my expectations.

They do what they always do: Blame free market capitalism for the failures of socialism.

DUmmies think they are the smartest people on the planet but we all know better.  They are weak-minded and stupid.  Why would any person of normal intelligence feel comfortable allowing nameless, faceless, cold, and uncaring bureaucrats to play such an important role in some of the most important decisions an individual can make in life?

Early on in adulthood, my objective was to be independent of my parents because in the usual course of life, your parents aren't around to take care of you.  Why would anyone with any lick of sense want to be dependent on another entity unless absolutely necessary?

I just don't get it, and I never will.
