I will need to update the cost of volunteer firefighting

Last edited Tue Jun 12, 2012, 11:55 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

In the good ol' days when I did my rescue and all that shtick... I got gently used Turnout Gear for 300 bucks... been a few decades. It was truly new, returned by a fire department that ordered too small.

So today we were looking for wildland fire gear for when we cover our local fires (settled on the t shirt, Level 1-A... I am not going to be actively taking a shovel... but if there are sparks the T-Shirts will be more than enough to avoid a burn)... did I mention they are made in the US and probably the most expensive T-Shirts I have ever bought?

So out of curiousity checked on the cost of the Fire Dex turn out gear (I remember it fondly)

Well the jacket is 1200 buckaroos, and the pants 800 buckaroos.... so for about 2,000 bucks you can get yourself your structural fire turn out gear, and that does not include the boots, gloves and helmet. For that add about another two thousand. (Sorry, I did not add right)

So should we all now ask fire fighters to pay for that gear? I know, for Mitt and the crew that is nothing... I mean chump change, but think about it next time you see your firefighter... in full gear ready to go fight a house fire. And I will have to revise my cost to equip a fire crew and a truck, quite a bit upwards.

Ok it is cheaper if they are fighting a forest fire, but you get the picture. And this is why... we pay for it using tax money...

Is volunteer firefighter on her resume?

What isn't on her resume?  If Google has info on it, she has done it.

Yeah, Nadin did everything, up to and including helping Moses part the waters so the Israelites can leave Egypt.

Isn't that the truth.

Fluid displacement specialist.

Add that to her resume. It is a great one  :lmao: But we will have to add an explanation so people know what we mean by it.

What's left of her hair appears to be greasy enough to ignite at the slightest spark.  She needs to invest in a helmet, or maybe some shampoo.

It is expensive for the paid fire department personal as well.

Every year or so we have some kind of benefit to raise money to buy thermal imaging equipment ---  I think that is what it is called ----  to find people in a smoke filled home.  A couple years ago a wealthy person left enough money to 6-7 towns to buy rescue equipment for pets who had inhaled smoke.

I know nothing about firefighting but what I read or see on TV and one term stuck in my head, the fire is some times called the BEAST.   Good and well named term.

I have little idea just how this works for volunteers, some times we run into one and they have a beeper on them, when the beeper goes off if at work the employer has to allow that person to leave immediately.

So when one calls for an ambulance some times the fire department gets there first.  Why the fire department goes to
the scene of a cardiac event or anything not involving fire I do not know.   [ Please someone fill me in here ]

I have noticed that most fire houses do not have a Dalmatian to guard the truck, a shame, in case of an apartment house fire and dozens of kids in shock a fire dog seems to calm them and the adults some what.

Symbolism is strong, we have Smokey the bear, our Donkey and Elephant, our  Bald Headed Eagle, Now the Bison.

Where did the fire house dog go to ?????

My house issued us our gear. We had to buy things like T-shirts and the like though.

All my gear is issued to me...free of charge. We are a volunteer unit and manage to secure donations for almost anything we need including vehicles. I recently secured a donation of a used ambulance from a private company. All it took was an email and one phone call to me. 15 minutes later the whole process was in motion. Sometimes all you have to do is ask.

Nads will prob get killed covering a wildland fire...pity those short little troll legs don't churn faster when the winds shift.

I'm not too sure about that.
Gnads the Gnome is so repulsive that fire wouldn't even touch her. :-)

Nadin's a vicious bitch. Why do we always fiiiight fires? Couldn't we all just talk it out with the flames? I mean, it eats, and it breathes. Maybe it has feelings...

Have you know heart, Nadin. Or don't you have the buckaroos to cover another one?

Is Nadin another one of these chicks that has the "skinny jeans" syndrom? Only, I guess for the purposes of this discussion, it would be the "skinny bunker gear" syndrome.  :-)

Danny Devito wore skinny jeans in an "It's always Sunny in Philadelphia" episode, he had to have them cut off of him because they were restricting blood flow.  He and nadin look alike enough to be twins, hmm.

:lmao: and :puke: I just pictured DeVito's little, wrinkled purple, uncirculating testicles.

That man should never wear skinny jeans.

Side Note: "DeVito's" It looks like Doritos is branching out.
