Title: Omaha Steve finds new project, right up his alley

Oh my.

For some reason when I saw this news story in the Omaha World-Herald this morning, I knew it's show up on Skins's island.  I just knew it.

Not only that, but I knew which primitive would post it.  I just knew.

Well, I let the campfire alone on Skins's island for some hours, hoping the big guy'd return and fill us in--on what, I'm not sure, but on something--but as it appears to be just another one of the big guy's post-and-run-away campfires, well, here it is.

100 years of mystery: The Villisca ax murders (8 dead)

http://www.omaha.com/article/20120610/NEWS01/120609881#100-years-of-mystery-the-villisca-ax-murders

One hundred years ago in Villisca, Iowa, a family of six and two little farm girls on a sleepover were bludgeoned to death in their beds. The crime became known by the name of the town that it would forever stain, and by the weapon that the mysterious assailant used to work his evil: The Villisca ax murders.

It was — and remains — Iowa's largest mass murder.

Who killed eight people on that moonless Iowa night? Even now, no one knows.

Part One: The Murders

VILLISCA, Iowa — On June 10, 1912, neighbors of Josiah and Sarah Moore began to wonder what was wrong next door when the curtains were still closed and nobody was stirring by 7:30 a.m. It was too warm to leave the windows down.

Josiah Moore should have been heading downtown to his hardware and implement store. And Sarah Moore and the children should have been among the other early risers of Villisca, even though they had been up late the night before for a special Sunday children's program at the church.

Something was beyond wrong in the Moore house.

FULL story and photos at link.

There's a few primitives comments, none of interest.

Apparently ghost-busters also visit the site, and so maybe the big guy's packing up his ghost-hunting gear and getting ready to head out; it's not that far away from Bellevue.

When I first read the title of this thread, I thought it was a tie-in to the cross dressing UGA professor in the lounge.

You know, I really must mosey on down to Bellevue sometime this summer.

I've been to Bellevue before, many times the last, oh, few decades, but never paid attention to it; usually one's in Bellevue because one's headed to Omaha.

I've given it some thoughts; franksolich and the big guy sitting on the front porch of the big guy's house, sipping lemonade while watching children play in the streets, and talking about the good times of www.electstevedawes.com.

I'm sure the big guy's over it--we Nebraskans don't harbor bad feelings--and sees it what it really was, a splendid joke, a rollicking joke, and now looks back at the episode with jovial good humor and guffaws.

And while we're doing that, Marta'll probably be in the kitchen, making an apple pie, and a cherry pie, for franksolich to take home with him.

franksolich has that effect on women like Marta.

My first thought was the Stay-Puff marshmallow man.

When I read about people being bludgeoned in their beds, the dour, dyspeptic Marta was the first DUmmy who came to mind.

Every time I hear about this horrible murder, it gives me nightmares and scares me.  If I hear a noise at night, I think it's some ax murderer.  I'm not even kidding.

Ghost Adventures did for sure.

I thought it was that show but wasn't sure.

BTW, you need to do a tape of your apt. before you move, you said you had ghosts.

I need to buy sound canceling headphones.  I have video (well, audio since it was so dark), but I have crappy $10 headphones that are junk when it comes to listening to what I want to highlight.  My cheap headphones only work for music and my talk radio shows during the day at work.

I'm going to bug my husband to buy me some nice sound canceling ones.

Please don't type "Omaha Steve", and "right up his alley" in the same sentence.
 Kind creepy.  :overreaction:

Oh but you should see franksolich in action in such cases.

It's a gift, I suppose.

Marta's exactly the sort of woman franksolich can charm out of a tree.

Upon meeting franksolich, Marta might reach for the rolling-pin, but within three minutes she'll be baking an apple pie and a cherry pie for me to bring home.

I got distracted and started following some links and reading about this.  Several incidences of whole families being wiped out by an ax murderer are laid out at the TrueTV website.  I don't understand this.  This is not a silent, quick easy way to kill.  How can an entire family be slaughtered, without piercing screams, shattering glass with escape attempts, fighting back, etc?  I don't get it.

I see you have not heard of the Ninja Lumberjack.  Should be coming out next season on Discovery or History channel.

I think I've mentioned this before -The missus is Lizzie Borden's cousin, so, I try to not piss her off too much.

You have, at least someone has.  I'm pretty sure it was you.  Otherwise I know of a couple of people who are somehow related to Lizzie Borden.  lol

It is -

The missus & I grew up in Fall River, Ma. and I have been everywhere The Ghost Provokers crew went when they did their Borden show. Though they kinda overplayed the size of Oak Grove Cemetery. Its big, but not THAT big.. At one time I lived about three blocks away from the entrance to it, and I would often walk through it on the way home from school. Ive also been to the Borden house - - Its not all that impressive, a typical middle-class Victorian home.
