Dear Upper Midwest: How to survive a Walkerstan world.
If you're state is threatening to become solidly Republican in this post Citizens United world, here are some survival strategies.
1. Live really, really cheaply. If you can do without that cable bill, do so. Try to get the cheapest cellphone or telephone plan that you can. Make your phone energy efficient, and put on sweaters. Keep the thermostat at 68 in the Winter. Eat less meat. Keep that old car running.
Apparently I've discovered Jimmy Carter's DU account.
It wouldn't be liberalism if it didn't lead to a lower standard of living.
2. Try to get as much education for as cheaply as you can. Increase your marketable skills. You're doing this to be try to get out of these Red state areas. For the majority of people (i.e. if you don't come from money), this means you need a degree in business (accounting), or science.
Paper doesn't make you smart or productive.
Good ideas and work do.
Which is why you people are doomed to be perpetual miserable failures.
3. The progressive enclaves on the coasts aren't cheap. We've all met or have even been the numerous people who have tried to move to Portland, New York ..., only to come back even more broke (see number two on skill sets). Try to meet people in areas you'd like to live, and build a game plan to get there.
And they don't even see the irony.
4. Keep your head low. Never indicate that you suspect someone of being a snake oil salesman, but don't buy snake oil -- be nice about not buying it.
What the hell does that even mean?
Keeping your head low means stay unnoticed. Snake oil refers to fraudulent propositions.
Does this idiot even understand what he writes?

7. Germany, with it's pawltry population, just last year was overtaken by 2 billion Chinese
as the world's largest exporter. Germany is still going strong, and it has very strong unions. If Americans can emigrate to Europe, Canada or a number of other places, I think they'll be fine. It's hard to do though.
The word you're looking for is "overtook."

9. If I win the Lottery, I'll help as many Americans get to Germany
or whatever country with single payer healthcare and guaranteed vacation days that they want to go.
I don't know if I should laugh or fly into a blind rage.

Is that sarcasm? Is the whole thing sarcasm? What was your point?

5. As someone who has survived a Red state, you're not going to get many
job offers, pay increases, or promotions by doing things that I would consider innocuous. These things include having an Obama bumper sticker. I was told by my boss that I needed to remove all bumper stickers from my car. After I got a new-to-me car, I didn't put any bumper stickers on it for over a year, and I stopped getting pulled over every few months.
"**** the Police!" and "Legalize it!" bumper stickers tend to make you a target.

Amen. Good tips, all. We already live this way in IL, and it can help out while awaiting political change.
Illinois? Anna, you idiot, you live in a blue state. High taxes, higher corruption. Blue State. A stupid post right out of the gate.

6. Welcome to DU. Where are you in IL?
I hear that southern IL is terrible for liberals.
The paranoia and the pity-party made that thread an entertaining read.

I tell what, if you idiots from DU land promise in writing to stay out of the U.S. forever I'm sure I could find some people to pay for your plane tickets. One-way of course

:rotf: I told you guys in my FlippyMole challenge thread that my mole was still going.
I'll go ahead and come clean on this one because I have more. Of course I'll deny it if any of the lurking DUmp monkeys PM me at the DUmp.
The clues are there if you look closely.
I am a fictional spirit-guide that is part irish setter (dog) and part pigeon (bird). Now look at the name Shcrane71.
A Sheltie is a dog. That is where the "Sh" comes from. A crane is a bird. Walt Disney World, a place that focuses on fantasy (or fiction), opened in Florida in 1971 which is appropriate since DU is a place full of people with Mickey Mouse ideas.

Off topic but I'm going to sign up a new mole at DU to take advantage of the welcome aboard from the head man.

Moonbats with degrees in science? Never happen, a degree in science requires logic, which they will never have.

Oh wait, you guys already tried that. Never mind.

I just wish they would move their blue ass out of my red state.
Their ass is blue from sitting on it.

The democrat candidate for Lt. Governor Mahlon Mitchell had the same idea. That's why Rebecca Kleefisch beat him by an even larger margin than Walker beat Barrett. And in case you haven't heard Zalatix, Walker creamed Barrett.

Make them short notice one way tickets. That will give them a good strip search by the TSA as a going away present.

My, my, I thought an Obama presidency was supposed to fix this all? It sounds like they are just as worried, upset, broke, paranoid, etc., as during the "horrible reign of the BFEE." Poor little :stoner: :stoner: :stoner:.

See, they're going to blame all of this not happening on the existence of Republicans. It's demonization. One of Alinsky's tactics, is it not? Some of them--not sure where, but the initials "BK" come to mind--are going to use this to justify violence on Republicans and Conservatives.

What the hell is that poster yammering about. Keep your head low stuff.
I can think of some times it is best to stay out of trouble, sort of being the middle dog in a wolf pack.
Snake oil is what I call those TV infomercials that promiss you to make your life better, healthier and happier if you send in $20.00 + shipping and tax to buy some kind of cleaning cloth or some new fangled cooking divice that you pay up the snoot for and use at best 4 times in 6 years.
It is true that in times of upheaval we do lower our standard of living for a time. Nothing new here, any time you are offered an antique car, a Ford made in 1943, ERRRR, ask some questions first before you put a down payment on it.
We survived the gas rationing in the 1970's nothing new, 1980-1990 the rolling black outs, We survived the produce strikes, food recalls that still go on today. Mom still has WW2 rationing papers for butter, gas, and meat.
I was on the Island in of Oahu in 1969 when a shipping strike caused the price for the civilians living there to pay $10.00 for one roll of toilet paper. We survived as allot of trading went on between the military and the civilians for items that were available to the Military but very rare to the civilians.-----Cigarettes, not the tax exempt sea stores, though those were avail if you knew how to get them.
I have had my hard times with 4 kids living on a military salary. Some times I had to wash the kids clothes in the bath tub and OH for the hanging them to dry outside on a cloths line-----
Mom remembers when silk stockings were so scarce woman were dyeing their legs with some kind of Iodine mixture and using a pen to draw a line up the back of their legs to look like a seam.
Here's one for you, back in the 1950's I remember Mom coming come with a sealed bag of something with a big orange spot in the middle. She and Dad would toss it to each other mushing it up until the orange color was mixed in. They called this Oleo, butter substitute.
Grandmothers used Crisco as a face cleaner and moisturiser, wore big hats in the sun and rejoiced when the dandelions came in the spring. The greens were cooked, the roots made tea and the blossom made wine and was sprinkled over potatoes. Water was conserved using baby powder to dry clean hair twice a week. Shampoo was a bar of Ivory soap.
So before TV there was the radio and the wonderful old soap operas and the Western, mystery, and Comedy broadcasts. Best thing about radio was one could move about doing things and not be held captive in a chair for hours watching the non verbal action.
Worse thing to happen to Americans is to loose the power grid. Darn can we survive a month without power and be forced to use our imaginations to compensate.
Don't know what the poster is whining about, no matter how bad it gets, we will eventually have to use our brain power to invent and substitute what we have on hand and can get. People in the past survived and thrived on their own with little help from the Government.
Why does the poster believe that if the SHTF we people cannot survive without Teachers Unions, a Cop on every block, Union States, surprised the teens that babysit are not forced to join a Union.
A bad day for me, this poster has to be very young to not take into consideration that Americans are quite able to make their own decisions to either live or die by.

Vesta, where did I say "Keep your head low?" BS applied, and in an hour, I'll be back to give you another. "BK" stands for "Brett Kimberlin," who is a left-wing bomber who has gone after conservative bloggers. He's funded by the Tides Foundation, among others, and the Tides Foundation is funded by George Soros. The Left is resorting to violence. They'll take the first shot, and the Right will take the last shot.

Germany? You mean you want to live with the Nazi's????!!!!! OMFG!!!!11111one
I'll help you pack your bag.
EC, with interest I listened to Fox where it was mentioned that the Neo Nazi's have begun to pop up every where like Herpies in a Gay Bar. The resurgence in Germany is not as surprising as the number of them in of all places Australia.
What on earth is happening to our so called civilized life of today.????? Seems like the better off the country's become the more Hate they generate. The worse off they become , heck they would turn in Grandma for growing a little plant in the kitchen window to help with her Cataracts if there was any kind of reward.
I have no problem living next door to a Nazi as long as they have no problem with our life style, our friends and family that may not be to their liking. -----No that non white person coming to my house is NOT my maid, they are my friend or the spouse of a family member. -Could be one of that kind will marry my son or daughter and give me lots of biracial grandkids to throw eggs at their house and  them.
Germany will be the next in line to go upside down, human nature does not change and someone will get the blame, the Jewish bankers, the Gays, the Muslims and or even the USof A.
England and the Packies, been going on for some time, Hate is seething there not to the boiling point YET.
Sorry my dear, to rant, could be this this old lady is rebelling from the mantra of my day of 'Separate but Equal' that was impossible back then as it is today.

I have no idea who this Kimberlin is but thank you for informing me. I am sorry you took my post personally, darn I was commenting on the original post
So please just what kind of violence is the left resorting to, you mean name calling, distortion of facts, down right lies and black mail ???? Dirty tricks, mining for dirt on the opposition, their family's and going back to grade school to denounce someone for something they did 40 years ago ?? This is just Standard Operation Procedure in the world of cut throat politics.
We Republicans are not clean as snow you know, the stuff coming to light on our 5 1/2 year president a Republican with a vice President that resigned in disgrace and he him self was the ONLY President to be forced to resign, was not something to be proud of.
BTW interesting this 40 year old stuff is now coming to light AGAIN as a Democratic President is fighting for his political life. Coincidence ????
I am not too sure the right will take the last shot, unless The GOP has something devastating to spring on the public in the last two week before the Election. Leaders do not fight fair in love or war, that is why they become leaders.
I worry that Romney is too nice a guy to be a leader. His Campaine has so far not hit any blows worth while to Obama, darn it our country is in BIG trouble and we desperately need a blood and gut leader that is a take no survivors. America first at all costs.
Again I apologise if I hit a nerve and it made your leg jump. :-) Bitch slap away, I have the hide of a Teflon pan, give me your best shot.
