Breaking- Scott defies Justice sends letter last night - will continue purge

Gov. Rick Scott’s election’s chief on Wednesday defiantly refused a federal demand to stop purging non-citizens from Florida’s voter rolls, intensifying an election-year confrontation with President Barack Obama’s administration as each side accuses the other of breaking federal law.

In a sharply worded letter, Scott’s administration claimed the Department of Justice doesn’t understand two federal voting laws at the heart of the dispute and was protecting potentially illegal voters more than legal ones.

Florida also accused another federal agency, the Department of Homeland Security, of violating the law by denying Florida access to a federal citizenship database.

“This hardly seems like an approach earnestly designed to protect the integrity of elections and to ensure that eligible voters have their votes counted,” said the letter, written by Scott’s hand-picked secretary of state, Ken Detzner, a fellow Republican.

Detzner also submitted a list of four questions that he wants the DOJ to answer.

In tone and substance, the letter all but dares the Justice Department to sue Florida for allegedly violating the 1965 Voting Rights Act and the 1993 National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), nicknamed “motor voter.”

1. I'm reading a book by Peter irons, called "Jim Crow's Children."

It tells the stories of the cases leading up to the Brown decision, and the non-results afterwards.

In regards to officials like Governor George Wallace of Alabama and Orval Faubus of Arkansas, irons asks, "What good is the rule of constitutional law, if the very officials sworn to obey it refuse to do so?"

Seeing as the law requires FL to keep its voter rolls clean and requires DHS to allow access to the database I think the DUmbass is referring to Obama's people.

7. That's where the 82nd and 101st Airborne come into play. - n/t

No need.

We'll just impeach Holder and Napolitano.

3. This is typical of Right Wing behavior

They stubbornly refuse to understand how this country is supposed to function.

Where does it say non-citizens can vote?

6. as fast as as these Scott/defiant headlines come up; the supervisor/defiant headlines follow

His own state election officials won't go along with him. So much for Scott trying to play like it's Fl against the Obama Justice Dept.

So why are they eager to see felons and foreigners voting?

8. One of his more sober and historically-minded advisors should

take Scott aside and school him on what happens when states presume to question and defy the rule of law as laid out by the United States Supreme Court and enforced by the U.S. Department of Justice. Does Scott really want his state government offices occupied by rifle-carrying troops of the 82nd and\or 101st Airborne? He's really asking for such an outcome, imo, with this states rights nonsense.

12. But

Isn't Prick Scott a Teabagger? And don't Teabaggers
have itchy trigger fingers? (Or is he too stupid to know
that he's playing with fire?) This may not end well.

Judging from this thread there's only 1 side wishing to use violence to keep non-citizens voting.

Hey Scooter, you do know these two Governors were Democrats.

One has to ask onesself, which party are illegals most likely to vote for?

The green party of course because that's the color of money. :-)

Ok, DUmmie ****wits, I'll accept your premise that Gov Scott is violating election laws if you can show me exactly what laws he is violating since you couldn't make a rational, informed argument in any of your posts.  Florida is required to groom its voter rolls (by federal law) and DHS is supposed to provide access to their databases (by federal law).  Now, can any of you mouth-breathers show anything other than your wish for federal troops to gun down their fellow citizens?

Don't worry, I'll wait...

So the DOJ is telling him to stop upholding a federal law that states that non-citizens can not vote? Why do I see a Arizona pattern here? When did the illegals and non-citizens get more rights than a citizen?

I always thought DUmpmonkeys wanted fair elections.
It would be nice if one of them could explain why removing un-eligible/iillegal voters is a bad thing.

When is Holder going to press charges against Obama for contempt of court?  Has he complied yet with the judges orders about opening up drilling in the gulf?
