A little worrisone insight from tonight
so we got to cover the election returns. Will be writing stories and doing photos in the morning (Just over 1000 shots to go through.... and a few articles to write)...

But here is what is worrisome to me. The major announcements on who won or lost or claimed victory or what were not done where they usually are done... where returns happen. The GOP had their own party in their own hotel, (where me and hubby got to spend the night) And the Dems got their own party.

According to other media folks this is new... as in probably one previous election. I also realize just how damn dangerous this is.

That is the big over the head it hit me today kind of information.

Of course if you asked the GOP tonight they retook the WH... and some supporters were precious. I do not mean this in a nice way. I am positive some were just as precious with the dems. When alcohol flows...

But the fact that they kind of avoided the actual media place and all went in their separate ways and did their announcements in their separate ways....

Now if my returns could load... we were told by the County Registrar that they were having issues.
WTF? Does this make any sense to anyone? (http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002773766)

Oh dearest Nads, the "actual media" are firmly implanted in the campaign party locations on election night.   They don't hang out at the town/city/county clerks office.   Only campaign minions are there feeding info to the candidates campaign teams who are AT THEIR PARTIES.

That has been the case everywhere for like... ever.

3. There is always a party presence at the election results office - whatever it is called locally

Every election night I can remember over the last 70 years has featured a winner (strouting ? at his hotel headquartes) and a loser(s) tearfully speaking to the workers at his headquarters. You must do things differently is southern california.
Hang in there. Nads has just begun to strout.

Quiet thread. Most of the folks at the DUmp, are now ignoring her.

California is becoming even stranger.  They now have open primaries , and this year they will have Dems facing Dems in some areas for the general election.  They are trying to become a one party state.

I have seen her refer to "writing stories" a few times.  Has anyone here ever seen one of these stories published?  If so, was it as unintelligible as her posts.  I can't imagine anyone actually paying her for this crap.

Ok time for some tough love
You know what the problem of the democratic party is? (And I am sure you are not going to like it)

And I mean the heart of the problem....

Stop the wining and the belly aching and pointing fingers.

Main problem is, the other side IS organized (and has money, that helps)... Dems... not so much...

The Republicans figured this out long ago, you want to control the country, you need to control all from the dog catcher and school district level (where all the local power is), all the way to the WH.

Dems have not figured this out. At least I have yet to see evidence that people understand this... let alone local parties.

Quick, who was running for your local court who was more to your liking? How about the school board? If you happen to have dog catcher, dog catcher. (Yeah, yea, I happen to know and I voted for them)

Local game matters...

Now to work with me...

This could be fun to watch.
Kaboink!

3. do you have any evidence for this?

It's not like dems don't work to get elected for everything from dog catcher on up. where is the evidence that dems don't work in an organized fashion to get elected in every race? Dems also participate in the insane money scramble. and in recent years, they've done quite well on that front. Post CU? Probably not going to do nearly as well, but that's hardly the fault of the dem party.

Local does matter- oh and not every state elects judges.

I know it's the running joke, but do people actually run for dog catcher in your areas? Ours here in the CSRA are employees of the counties (Richmond, Columbia, Aiken, Edgefield, etc.), not elected officials. It was like that back in Mississippi too. Maybe we down heah in 'da souf ain't progressiv enuf.

They do in a lot of towns in my state (some are appointed also).

Nads is correct - change starts at the local level.

and understating where the real power lies, doesn't it?

And money...

People need to figure this out... if the Democratic Party is ever going to be competitive again... that LOCAL elections is where the brass ring is... the POTUS is just gravy.

19. I think your diagnosis is shallow and well, wrong.

look, as the recent Pew report stated, democrats are a diverse party. Republicans are decidedly not. It's far easier to stay on message when you aren't diverse. there are lots of micro inter party cultural differences in the democratic party. those pretty much don't exist in the republican party.

Up pops the weasel.  :rotf:

I wonder if the earwig princess has any idea that she figured out something I knew a couple of years ago:

Rightists normally have common core values; they may not have many in common but they do have them.  Leftists are a cabal of egos and groups that are constantly jostling and fighting to be in charge while the rest get the scraps.

The left likes to brag about their big tent holding so many diverse factions, but in the end, they are all separate factions that are out for their own best interests. Most often that best interest involves cash in hand.

OTOH, the right is made up of several groups, that put their core beliefs ahead of their personal best interests.

Civil Rights Leader Resigns From NAACP National Board Over Gay Marriage Endorsement

In prayer. The Rev. Keith A. Ratliff Sr. said he is “in prayer” about his relationship with the NAACP following its endorsement of same-sex marriage on May 19. Ratliff is NAACP state conference president for Iowa and Nebraska and one of 64 members of the NAACP’s national board of directors. He is also pastor the Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. “I’m against same-sex marriage,” he told CitizenLink. “There are a number of issues that the NAACP has to address and deal with, and I certainly don’t think same-sex marriage should be a top priority.” Ratliff added that the gay rights movement should not be compared with the civil rights movement: “There is not a parallel between the homosexual community and the struggles of African-Americans in our country. I haven’t seen any signs on any restrooms that say ‘For Homosexuals Only.’ Homosexuals do not have to sit on the back of the bus, as African-Americans had to.”

42. Wrong again.   :rotf:

From Wikipedia: In actuality, most animal control officers are appointed by an executive authority. An exception is the town of Duxbury, Vermont, which does elect its dogcatcher.
So, one town out of how many in the US?
Please present your evidence that Republicans want to control the outcome of the election of animal control officer in Duxbury, Vermont.
If you can't, then I will assume you are wrong about that as well.

Unless you live in Duxbury, Vermont.
Which is apparently the ONE town that elects a dogcatcher.

Nutcase nadin is such an experienced political operative she's never heard of candidates having election night parties at a headquarters hotel.

They must do it differently in the shithole south of the border, where bullets fly on election day.

Wow, I can't believe I am agreeing with Nads here BUT animal control officers are still on the ballot in towns in New England, and so are Tree Wardens, and Light Department Board members and a whole lot of other positions like that.
