To hell with this state
I grew up in CA... spent the first 25 years of my life there.
Now I've lived in WI for the past 6 years with my partner. When I first moved here, people were nice. Even though I lived in the burbs/semi-rural area.
After moving here, I worked my ass off to get a master's degree in math and to teach at the college level. Now I'm the enemy. Oh, and "merit pay" because I teach a high demand, always under staffed subject? Yeah right!
So I'll say this now. I'm outta here sooner rather than later. Especially after my partner finishes up her schooling in 2-3 years if she gets a job out of state, I'll follow along with her. Math professors are always needed somewhere. And even if it will be a non-public union state, the weather will probably be nicer.

"Yes! Yesss! Oh, let me taste your tears.....Mmmmm, your tears are so yummy and sweet! Oh, the tears of unfathomable sadness! My-yummy!"
There is also a thread going about "How do I emigrate to another country with no money or marketable skills?"They've been having that discussion since December 2001.
