Is the GOP ready for its own gay candidate?
[snip]
Richard Tisei is running for Congress with an unusual resume. He's a Republican from Massachusetts who is pro-choice, openly gay, and in favor of gay marriage. And yet despite running diametrically opposed to where most of the party is on social issues, Tisei is considered by top Republicans to be one of the top GOP candidates challenging incumbents this election
"I consider myself a live and let live Republican. I think the government should get off your back, out of your wallet and away from the bedroom," Tisei says. On social issues he says the parties needs to "have advocates on both sides of the isle or you're never going to have true equality."
And Tisei is even willing to do something most Republican candidates for Congress never do - - same something positive about President Obama. Tisei praised Obama for saying his position on gay marriage has evolved and he now favors it.
"I'm glad he has evolved to the point right now. He went through the same process I think most Americans are right now. They're interacting with a lot of gay people and they're recognizing, you know, that everybody should be treated fairly under the law…. I think it was an important step and I'm glad that he did it," he says.
Tisei even thinks his fellow Massachusetts resident, Mitt Romney, might evolve on the issue of gay marriage, too.
"I think the country as a whole is. I mean everybody knows gay people now… and it's really broken down barriers and given people the chance to interact. I think most Americans are fair, and they understand that everybody should be treated equally under the law, and we shouldn't discriminate against anyone, and I do think that as time goes on that will be the majority view in this country."
But on economic issues like health care, Tisei is lock step with most Republican candidates.
"Definitely repeal it, I think it's a job killer….it's going to bankrupt the country." he said.
But he is in favor of the health care plan in Massachusetts that then-governmor Romney pushed through and that has many similarities to the Obama health care law passed by Congress. "What we did in Massachusetts isn't necessarily going to work in other states. Every state's different and I think Governor Romney's right, every state should be able to come up with their own solutions and ultimately that's what we're going to need in the country to solve some of the healthcare problems."

Hmmmm. Says he is a Republican, but is for Gay Marriage, is pro-abortion (As he calls it), supports the health care bill, and is happy that Obama "Evolved" to be in favor of gay marriage. This guy is obviously a social liberal. I can't support him.
The fact that he is openly gay doesn't bother me. It is the fact that he is a social liberal that bothers me.

He's from Massive-two-shits, what more can be expected?
This is nothing more than the media trying some kind of "gotcha" bullshit, setting up Conservatives to be painted as hypocrites. Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.

One of my favorite quotes. Hi5

Haven't we already had gay candidates? The just didn't make a big deal out of it, if I recall. I don't give a flying rat's ass who anyone ****s and there's no reason for anyone to wear it on their sleeve. Sheesh, it's not like this is the new Chia Pet or pet rock or anything. It's a human being that's supposed to run on Republican ideals (I'm not say conservative because I don't think they're the same thing).

He doesn't support Obamacare.

He doesn't support Obamacare.
He said in one of the articles I was reading that he supported the health bill that Romney passed. So I just assumed that he supports Obamacare because they are basically the same thing.

They are nothing alike. From your excerpt in the OP:

Is the GOP ready for its own gay candidate?
IF...and thats a big IF, If a gay candidate was CONSERVATIVE, then yes I might be willing to vote for him.
Richard Tisei is not that man. He supports everything a democrat supports and puts an "R" by his name. Is the mere presence of an "R" supposed to make a liberal acceptable to me? NO. and let me say again, H3LL NO!
This trick might have worked before the Tea Party. RINOs just don't have the same respect as they used to.
Bottom Line is this: Liberals LIE. They lie all the time.
Further, libs will do anything for power. Even stand with Republicans is it will get them in office.
In my long life I have lost all respect for liberals. They hate me and everything I love. I will not forget that lesson. Nor will I ever consider Richard Tisei to be a republican or someone worthy of respect.

He is a Republican/Social Liberal. Which is why I won't support him.

He is a RINO. Republican in Name Only.
He votes democrat. Talks democrat. He sides with rats on every issue.
If it looks, talks, and smells like a rat, then he's a rat. Having a fancy "R' on the ballot makes no difference.
-
Seems like a libertarian and they usually identify with the GOP because fiscal trumps social issues especially now

He's running in Massachusetts, hate to tell you, but Massachusetts, heck, the East Coast and New England are liberal, sometimes a RINO is the best you can get.

He doesn't follow all the liberal beliefs, just the social issues.
Here is his site with the general issues (Jobs, Debt, Health Care, Seniors, Iran and Israel, Veterans, and Education) he follows -> http://tiseiforcongress.com/issues/ ................ He sounds like a republican to me (with liberal social issues).

Could be - I know people who live in the Boston area and they tell me that the liberal tag is over exaggerated, and there are more conservatives than what people think. They also tell me that it isn't nearly as bad as San Francisco, though.

There are liberal (if not communist) sections of MA, but there are a great deal of conservative leaning moderate sections also.
