Not surprising at all.
Student Loan Debt Means Delays to Marriage, Children
by Emily Driscoll Money 101 Published June 01, 2012 FOXBusiness
Growing up is tough enough without the worries of your financial future, so Money101 is here for you. E-mail us your questions and let us take off some of the pressure.
Massive student loan debt cripples more than just grads’ finances, it also forces some to delay marriage, and postpone big-ticket purchases that can have a ripple effect on the economy, a new study reveals.
Combined with a weak labor market, student loan debt is making it hard for grads to make ends meet, and money that would typically be set aside for savings is now being gobbled up by everyday expenses.
According to a study by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, of the 37 million borrowers who had outstanding student loan balances as of third quarter 2011, 14% or about 5.4 million borrowers had at least one past due student loan account. Together, these past due balances amount to $85 billion, or about 10% of the total outstanding student loan balance.
The financial implications of student loan debt are long lasting. A recent survey by the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys shows more immense student loan debt is forcing people to delay making major purchases or start families.
But they want us to pay for their birth control, right? At least some of them do . . .

Delay marriage and babies my ass...they'll just not get married...send pregnant girlfriend down to the welfare office and social services and the government will take care of all her and the babies needs and healthccare.
Long sentence, I know. I get pissed when I think about these things.

What about H.R. 4170? Think it will pass? I know it won't upset me.

I read all that BS....and in conclusion it's just more freebies for DUmmies who think everything should be free, free, free.
DUmmies who shouldn't have children to start with, they never planned to feed, cloth, house or educate them and they should be sterilized with a hot iron poker.

Yes there are people who should not have kids, and I agree with sterilizing them. But I also know a lot of conservatives who are over whelmed with their student loan payments. Some of them are paying 500.00 or more a month for it, and that is for both the husband and wife, so they are paying over 1,000.00 a month for their loans. When I finish school this year, I will be paying over 300.00 a month for mine. And when my wife finishes, we will be the same for hers.
There was talk about including student loans in bankruptcy's here a while back. If they do that, I would want to be a bankruptcy attorney. Mainly for the fact that students would be lined up to file, and I would be able to retire a lot sooner than 65.
Edit: edited for spelling

Thank you!
Since when did getting married before having a baby mean anything to these whiners? Being unmarried with a child is more financially beneficial for them.

Okay. But nobody forces anyone to take out loans. This is my point. We have to pay $840 a month to put our daughter in daycare just to pay our other debts before we can become a one income family. It drives me insane to pay that much, but it's just a part of life. I will throw a party when we no longer have to fork that much money out. That extra $840 a month could have paid off our debts a long time ago had we not had to pay for daycare. I can't really complain though because she is getting really good care AND an education before even touching preschool.
Debt sucks, but no one forces you into it. You applied for the loan and agreed to the terms and services. Just pay the bills and don't get into debt again.
