Yep, that sums it up.

I am hopeful of the day when public sector employee unions are abolished by law. Lots of waste in government and Democrat money laundering would dry up pretty damn quick. I'm also in favor of capping the number of non military people working for the public sector to coincide with a certain percentage of the economy. We don't need better than half the people working for the various governments in this country. They can move back to the private sector and dig ditches or flip burgers if they have no skills beyond being a taxpayer money drain.

Unionization is another great theory, like socialism, that never works well in practice.

And as more people learn what it really is; the more there is that want nothing to do with it.

I'd love to find out how much my State actually puts out for retirement and benefits for state workers, what percentage of my property and personal taxes go towards that?

No you don't, Bally . . . No you don't. This: :hammer: :argh: :censored: would be your reaction. If you could get together with lots of voters to "rectify the situation," then maybe you could do something.

I found this just for the town I live in, population < 80K.
In 2001, about 30 percent of the city's property tax levy went into paying down the pensions of its retired police and firefighters. In 2011, 70 percent of it will go toward pensions, even as recent years have seen cuts to other services that draw their funds from the same source, including the Decatur Public Library.
This year the library eliminated the Bookmobiles in the face of cuts exacted upon it by the city council.
Despite such austerity, costs continue to rise due to increasing unfunded liability, caused by higher-than-expected costs that must be paid off at a mandated minimum rate. According to city data, Decatur faced about $10 million in unfunded liabilities to its police and fire pension systems. In fiscal year 2011, the city's unfunded liabilities for police and fire pensions are expected to total about $80 million.

The scam is the pension money is "managed" by friends closely connected to the administration. Then it's a big surprise that the managed money was used directly and indirectly to support political office holders, and don't get the type of returns the general market is getting, so it must be augmented by taxpayers.

OMG thundley!
We have people who retire and they move out of State because it's so expensive to live here, so basically they move out of State and they put money into another States economy while we pay for it.

City workers used to have to live within the city limits, but the unions pushed for an end to that. I imagine quite a few of them leave Illinois altogether when they retire.

I don't blame them, if I lived in Illinois, I'd leave too.
To date, my only affiliation with Illinois was passing thru on the Tri-State Tollway on my way to Pound, WI.
I intend to keep it that way.

There's nothing wrong with Illinois except for that malignant cesspool in its upper righthand corner.
You have a little pocket of snotty elitists in Champaign/Urbana, but most states have a similar affliction.

True. Virginia has the northern part, up around the DC area.
I avoid that part as well.

Wisconsin Unions See Ranks Drop Ahead of Recall Vote
Wisconsin membership in the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees-the state’s second-largest public-sector union after the National Education Association, which represents teachers-fell to 28,745 in February from 62,818 in March 2011, according to a person who has viewed Afscme’s figures. A spokesman for Afscme declined to comment.

Given a choice, the union members are voting with their feet to quit paying dues. :-)

In case anyone from DU is playing with the dial on the radio, maybe put on Rush, he's going to talk about the Union problem in Wisconsin.

Deval Patrick goes on MSNBC to stump for Obama, when Bain Capital comes up Patrick says this:
Appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe†on Thursday, Patrick called Bain “a perfectly fine company.â€
“They have a role in the private economy, and I’ve got a lot of friends there,†Patrick added. “I think the Bain strategy has been distorted in some of the public discussions.â€

:o That's a hell of a drop! That's not just a haircut! First I'd heard; thanks.
Public employee unions really are a terrible idea. The corruption, the money laundering, the powerplays. There's just so much to go wrong.

I would love to see 99% or more of the union bosses in bread lines.

It also means that the remaining members will have to pay more to keep the fatcat union boss's salaries at their high levels. :fuelfire:

That's a huge financial loss for the Unions and the Democrats, the average membership is about $800, a loss of 35,000 is about 27 million dollars a year.

Did they cut his mic and kick him off the set? I would be shocked if they didn't.

He just went through the implications of people given the choice and leaving the unions, and how this election will be a referendum on other states doing the same thing to be able to take their states back.

Artur Davis: 'Democratic Label No Longer Matches What I Know About My Country'
While I’ve gone to great lengths to keep this website a forum for ideas, and not a personal forum, I should say something about the various stories regarding my political future in Virginia, the state that has been my primary home since late December 2010. The short of it is this: I don’t know and am nowhere near deciding. If I were to run, it would be as a Republican. And I am in the process of changing my voter registration from Alabama to Virginia, a development which likely does represent a closing of one chapter and perhaps the opening of another….

Democrat Commiteewoman Resigns from Party, Cites Her Catholic Faith
by Matthew Archbold Monday, May 28, 2012 8:49 PM
Jo Ann Nardelli has been a Catholic Democrat her entire life. Her father was one before her. And she couldn't imagine a day where that wouldn't be true.
But that day was Wednesday of last week.
I read a story about Jo Ann leaving the Democratic Party and was interested because she cited her Catholic faith as the reason.
So I gave her a call. I got her machine and as I was leaving a message she picked up. She said she'd been screening her calls because so many people have been calling to say nasty things to her or just pleading with her to change her mind. But when I called, saying I was with The National Catholic Register she picked up.
She said she figured I wouldn't be too mean to her.
Nardelli has been the focus of quite the firestorm in Pennsylvania because the thing is that Jo Ann Nardelli isn't just another Democratic committeewoman. She's the president and founder of the Blair County Federation of Democratic Women, she was Vice President of the PA State Women’s Caucus, and was 1st Vice President of the PA State Federation of Democratic Women (she had been in line for the presidency of that organization in 2014). She met with Hillary Clinton, gave a rosary to Joe Biden, and appeared on the cover of US News and World Report going to Church with then Senate candidate Bob Casey Jr.
