Title: Indy 500 finish
Post by: EagleKeeper on May 27, 2012, 02:26:25 PM
Dario Franchitti wins the race, Takuma Sato crashes on the last lap just after passing Dario for the lead.

It was a good race, set a record for passes for the lead with 35 or 34...I believe 28 was the old record.

I couldn't watch the race as I live too close to Indy and could not attend so it was blacked out, no worry though, I'll watch the replay.

I did listen to the race on a radio headphone though, I just took a pic of it as it might be of interest to race fans, I'll post it in a bit.

Edit: Here is the pic...

I bought this new at Talladega when it was still the Winston Cup.

Ok, F1 done
V8 Supercars done
Indy done
Coca-Cola 600 coming up

Racemaggedon continues!

I did see the race, and I noticed the stands weren't full. I wonder what the paid attendance was ? They talked about the heat, but there were at least 3 other years when raceday temperatures were hotter. 1937 was the hottest on record. I wonder if AlGore ManBearPig was in attendance...unpaid of course.

I couldn't watch live but I will be watching the replay so I can see the crowd, I'll also moniter local news to see if I can pickup any feed back and get back to you.

I wouldn't be surprised if the crowd was a bit thin though, been that way for the last couple of years, the economy and whatnot.

Oh..and it's not just Indycar.

Dario Franchitti won again? I bet Ashley Judd and Chip Ganasssi are happy. That is awesome! I am wondering how the Coke 600 turns out tonight. It is reported that 200,000 people where there today.

Probably will roll off around 6 pm east on your local Fox station.

They are going to replay Indy for the locals at 8 pm east.

That's going to be a very tight fit with the Nascar race.

Oh why does the indycar series torture me so?  :???:

I used to watch Indy Car all the time when Al Unser Jr. and Emmerson  Fittipaldi were driving for Penske in the Marlboro cars. Now, the only race I really watch is the Indy 500. Other than that, it all NASCAR for me. I chose Jimmie Johnson to win today, for my NASCAR poll.

That is one of the things that drove me away from it. That whole ordeal was a debacle.

Well that was cool, they are getting the coke 600 warmed up.

They had a 21 gun salute (m-16) blew taps and had a Buff flyover with Darius Rucker singing the national anthem.

A while back I went to a nationwide race and they had an Apache flyover. My first thought as I considered the firepower that an Apache can carry, "we all just died". Anyway the Apache came back around and did a hammerhead stall over the back stretch.

That's basically the same thought I had watching the Buff flyover.

My drivers are Edwards, Kenseth, and Biffle. I still have a soft spot for Mark Martin, though. Wish he wasn't driving a Toyota....

I still have a soft spot for Mark Martin, though.

Mark Martin is one of the most classy and nicest guys in NASCAR. I had the privileged of meeting him a few years back when went to Pocono. It was a highlight of the weekend.

In fact, that weekend I got to meet Jeff Gordon, Kyle Petty, Darryl Walltrip, Michael Waltrip, Rusty Wallace, Herman "Kenny" Wallace, Tony Stewart, Dick Bergrin, and Mike Joy. They were all great guys. Michael Walltrip and Rusty Wallace were the funniest.

I was surprised with Jeff Gordon. They were practicing and he was in his car right in front of the pit road. He looked over and saw all the fans standing there taking pictures, looked at his crew chief and pointed at him to take his net down. He then got out of his car and came over and signed autographs and took pictures for the next half hour or so. He came past me and said hello and told me that my wife was good looking lol. Before that, I wasn't much of a Gordon fan, but after that, I found a new respect for him.

My wife is a Jr. fan. She didn't get to meet him, but she did see him get out of his car at the enterance of the garage and went nuts. He spent the whole weekend in his motor home and didn't come out. I can understand why, then I can also not understand why. I heard that Sr. was the same way. Although Sr. would stay after the race and sign autographs and take pictures with fans till the wee hours in the morning.

Sr. was my main driver until he died. The man is my hero. After his death they changed so much, and a lot of it was for the better. I is a lot more enjoyable to watch now.

Yeah, that was my driver back in the day.

I wish so bad that I had the opportunity to meet him. I heard so many stories about how kind and generous he was to the fans.

For what it's worth...I think that the folkes that think Chad Knaus and whatnot are cheater just don't understand racers.

"Take everyting that you can get."

Junior Johnson was one of the folkes that shaped NASCAR, he bent the rules every chance he got.

That's what racers do, not just the drivers, every member of those teams are racers and they take what they can get.

If they step over the line they pay the piper, whatever they probably learned somthing that will work next weekend.

Kahne seems pretty stout now that he's out in clean air, 55 laps to though.

Yeah, even though I picked Johnson to win, I am hoping Kahne does.

Yeah, he is catching up. He is a good closer. So the finish is going to be a good one, that is for sure.

I am watching the race on Directv Hotpass. It is pretty cool.

Correct if I'm wrong, didn't Gordos crew replace JJs towards the end of last season at least for one race?

No, Jr.s traded with Gordon. and Kahne (well Mark Martins) traded with Jimmie Johnson. And it was a permanent change.

With how bad it is going for Gordon. It goes to show you that the crew makes up a big portion of the drivers success.

Watching the indy race now (replay) Newberg just spunout, the intersting shot was camera of the steering wheel.
