Title: Re "other assorted shenanigans" and "other places besides DU"
Post by: Boojatta on May 23, 2012, 12:38:16 PM
There might be some shenanigans on some message boards that describe themselves as supporting "Objectivism" (the philosophy of Ayn Rand).  Is that an acceptable topic for the DUmpster?

Is that an acceptable topic for the DUmpster?

From the rules for the DUmpster forum of CC.

It's subjective, but give it a try to see how it flies.

There's another forum here, "Mind-Numbing Stupidity," popular with members of conservativecave who aren't interested in DU, which is about one-third of the members here.

Generally, if it sounds DUish, even if not from DU, it stays here.

But if it doesn't quite parallel, it gets sent to the other forum.

It's a matter of taste, and I've rarely had to move them; maybe six times the past four and a half years.  It's not a big deal, nobody gets into trouble.

To get ready, I will need to do some research.  When I'm ready, I will give it a try. Thank you.

You may want to note that Boojatta is a DUmpmonkey with 12,000+ posts, who was tombstoned a couple of months ago.

Suppose that the Pope quits and becomes a police officer in Germany.

Would that be immoral on the grounds that somebody else might need the police officer job, or okay on the grounds that somebody else would be getting the Pope job? Does it depend on who replaces the current Pope?

An example of his political discourse:

That was posted in a DU forum that has the label "Religion/Theology."  Isn't there a potential difference between political discourse and religious discourse?

(Let's leave for another time a debate about whether or not a true Scotsman who is truly involved in a discourse on the topic of religion can make reference to the Pope in that discourse.)

That discourse was a response to something on DU.  I had reason to believe that linking to what I was responding to would have provoked a locking of my thread on the grounds that the link would have been considered "calling out" under the rules that were then being enforced on DU.

You came from DU, and we're giving you a chance. talk like a man or go home. this is a discussion board. We discuss things here. Maybe you should try that. as for me, I'll try a nice piece of pie.

I have no knowledge of what kind of power or influence you have at this message board.  If you have in the past and may in the future have influence over the written rules of the board, then I congratulate you.  Do you have influence over specific administrative decisions of this board?  Don't feel obligated to answer that question.

You came from DU
It's true that I registered at CC while I was still a member in good standing of DU, but I believe that DU removed my posting privileges before I posted my first message on CC.  I believe that there were at least four weeks between the two events.

What criteria do you use to determine whether or not some postings on a message board fail to achieve “like a man” status?

this is a discussion board.
I agree.

We discuss things here.

For now, I’m included in the “we” who discuss things here.  If you are troubled by that, then I am willing to hear you out.  However, as I am sure you know, the best kind of criticism, and often the only kind of criticism that is constructive, is specific criticism.  What specifically is bothering you?  If you prefer to not specify, then the best solution might be for you to put me on ignore.

To comment on this would be too easy. So since no one wants to see a newbie cry, I won't.

If you have to ask, then it is beyond you.

For now, I’m included in the “we” who discuss things here.  If you are troubled by that, then I am willing to hear you out.  However, as I am sure you know, the best kind of criticism, and often the only kind of criticism that is constructive, is specific criticism.  What specifically is bothering you?
Specifically? You don't discuss. You preach in the most condescending way. You hijack threads and make them about you and your little issues. You treat all who reply with the disdain of an elitist.

Try to keep to the topic and understand the board it is on. The DUmpster for example is not about influencing DU. Its about laughing at DU. Or pointing out the more outrageous posts at DU, like when they threaten death to others or writhe in orgasmic joy over the murder  or a corporate executive.

In short, you do not participate in discussions. Keep it short and too the point. You had 12,000+ posts at DU. I would assume you know how to discuss?

If you prefer to not specify, then the best solution might be for you to put me on ignore.

Ignore? No-it's far more fun to enjoy pie. As a child I enjoyed boysenberry pie. melt in your mouth goodness.

You hijack threads and make them about you and your little issues.
Two examples, please.  (You did choose the word "threads", which is plural.)

You treat all who reply with the disdain of an elitist.
All?  Is it possible that you are exaggerating?

True story. I worked with my sister last year and our desks were side by side. She called an engineer (on speaker phone) and he answered the phone "Meow can I help you?" She said, "Did you just say 'meow'?" with the funniest look on her face. I LMAO...she has never seen Super Troopers so she had no idea why the engineer and I were rolling.

I'm not familiar with the term "Boogerta", but it reminds me of the term "regardant", which you can see for yourself below:

Quote
