End of Extended Benefits May Lower U.S. Jobless Rate
By Shobhana Chandra on May 21, 2012

The declining U.S. jobless rate may soon get another push downward as Americans lose extended unemployment benefits.

From April 7 through May 12, about 370,000 Americans in 23 states stopped getting the benefits, which provide payments for as long as 99 weeks, according to estimates from the National Employment Law Project. People in the remaining six states and the District of Columbia who still qualify may lose eligibility by September, bringing the program to an end, the report showed.

Some recipients who lose their benefits may decide to accept jobs they view as less than ideal. Others may give up looking for work and drop out of the labor force, eliminating them from the ranks of the jobless. Those outcomes may trim the unemployment rate by 0.1 percentage point to 0.2 point in the next few months, according to economists Dean Maki at Barclays and Michael Feroli at JPMorgan Chase & Co.

“The unemployment rate would be the place where the effect is likely to show up most,” said Maki, chief U.S. economist at Barclays in New York and a former economist at the Federal Reserve. “It may put some modest downward pressure” on the jobless rate.

See how that works? If people leave the workforce because they lose benefits, then TECHNICALLY the workforce shrinks, and the unemployment rate goes down.  (http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002711252)

What a bullshit cynical strategy by Lord Zero.

Reminds me of the times after hurricanes that they swear bodies are stacked like cordwood and they were being hidden from public view by the Chimperor. Well, these are 0bama's dead bodies stacked like cordwood, only they still have bills to pay.

Well done, 0bama.

They need to start showing the true numbers. Wait, that will happen when Romney is elected. You will see it every night on MSNBC, along with the gas prices and war deaths.

The question is, can he cook the numbers enough to decrease the unemployment number below 8% by September ?

No question about that. The media ran doomsday scenarios when Bush had unemployment below 5%. Gas prices and war casualties were always reported nightly. As soon as Obama gets elected that shit disappears like a fart in the wind, and we all knew it would happen this way, and publicly predicted it. We all know damn well that the liberal media will start right back up with that bullshit when Romney takes over. But hey! There is no liberal bias in the media!

Exactly, but hey there is no way the media can be bias. They are journalists who are here to report the news, not opinions. /DU mode

He will do what ever he can, and when it does go below 8% he will be doing a huge victory lap praising himself for everything, including the sun coming up in the morning.

And many of the people who are no longer included in the workforce will somehow blame Romney for that, and vote for 0bama anyway.

That will be because the MSM will make it look like Romney's fault, and make Obama look like God. Anyone with a brain will know that there is no way it could possibly be Romney's fault when he isn't even President yet.

They will try to blame it on Bain Capital...

You mean like the President is trying to blame him for GS Technologies? Yeah, they been rubbing that one dry. The thing that is funny about it is that the states that happen in are still more favorable for Romney. Besides, that was one business. Obama is the cause of thousands of businesses going under.

Bain Capital, around since 1987, yet has never made a good decision...yeah, right, DUmmies. Keep sawing on that one.

They said on The Five today that Bain Capital, since it's inception, has had over an 80% success rate. So they are doing something right.

Read that one more time.  War is peace, peace is war.  Dropping out of the labor force means that you are no longer jobless.

I've been telling people this for 2 years. Keep extending and extending and then just before elections, drop their deadbeat asses. Then the unemployment numbers dive and Obama claims he's the greatest that ever lived.
