Oh my.
The men's forum on Skins's island has been popping lately. It used to be quieter than a dead fish.

You kids! Your mom and I can't leave for one evening without you making a mess!
Okay, if everyone wants to change the SOP of the group to be expressly a safe haven group, I'm okay with that.
However, I think we should consider what changes that will bring... which in my view is not much. Safe haven group hosts have the ability to not only lock posts which are inconsistent with the group's SOP (in the case of this group, as broadly defined as possible "issues of interest to men"), but also to manage a membership list. Challenging and controversial viewpoints are not necessarily in conflict with the SOP.

It appears that hosts of this group already do have the ability to block individuals from the group, so I think that it actually was set up as a safe haven group.

In my view, the fact that no one has yet been blocked from posting here suggests that people coming to the group to disrupt isn't a primary problem. The current problem is passive-aggressive complaints about the group in OTHER protected groups by people who neither read nor participate.
Is the expectation is that the group host is omniscient enough to proactively exclude posters who might subsequently say something embarrassing?... I think it's unrealistic.
In short, the nature of this group wouldn't have affected the H&M unpleasantness one way or another. "Safe" may be a bit misleading in that sense. Controversy attended the creation of this group. The admins were under a great deal of pressure to disallow it. It is unsurprising to me that the critics haven't given up.
Oh, and thanks for volunteering Warren. You're hired.

1. Fair 'Nuff.
Thanks!
Guess we've answered the safe haven question.
As it is, I haven't noticed a problem with disruption in the way that you mentioned, either. I don't envision blocking people from this group for anything except really egregious repeat behavior -in this group, I might add, not because someone is just generally not liked or says stuff in other parts of DU-. Not my style, at least.

If the men can't invade the womens forum then I think the women shouldn't be able to invade the mens forum.

Exactly, and can you imagine the inter forum squabbling that will result? I need to get one of my moles in to each of the forums soon.

If the DUmp had a forum for each of their claimed, suspected, or desired genders, it would be a list as long as your arm.
They are a diverse group.

We have a men's group here. It's mostly pictures of titties.
I guess you can't say that at DU.

You would think that is the correct answer, but you are not a liberal.

Didn't the old DU have something like 50+ special "groups" one to could be a member of? That didn't include the geographic/regional groups or topic-specific discussion forums.

Hence, my sig line.

"Perverse" would be a more apt word there.
