As a powerful and influential member of the entertainment / industrial complex (I write a blog), I get my Democratic party invites every now and then. Or, normal idiots get the same message I'm sure. Anyway, here goes:

This race is on. And now that our opponent is all but certain, it's time to put all our plans and preparations into action -- because the other side sure isn't waiting on us to gear up.
As Californians, here's one absolutely critical role we need to play: using our solid base of support here to help make sure key battleground states deliver a win for the President and other Democrats in November.
We're in this together, and a few extra hands on deck can make all the difference in this election.
So from Saturday through Wednesday, volunteers in Compton are organizing phone banks to reach out to people in Iowa to get them fired up about supporting the President -- and to make sure they know they have a chance to see him next weekend when he's visiting their state.
Can you make it to the phone bank on Tuesday? Here are the details:
What: Make calls to Iowa from Compton
Where: 1300 S. Butler Ave.
Compton, CA 90221
When: Tuesday, May 22nd
Shifts start at 4:00 pm

This election is not going to be easy. Now that Mitt Romney is almost certainly the nominee and the Republicans are gearing up, their special-interest allies will pour money into attacks on President Obama, the progress we've made, and this organization you've built.
In battleground states like Iowa, where a lot of voters haven't made up their minds yet, Republicans are going to spend millions of dollars to mislead voters and tear us down.
We have something far more powerful: grassroots supporters like you. From now until November, it's on each of us to spread the truth about the President's record and ask folks to get involved. That kind of person-to-person organizing is how we're going to win this thing.
We're not letting state lines stop us.

If you've got the time, sure! But just get the lay of the land before actually manning a phone, then just when they expect you to jump in, claim you've got a family emergency and gotta deal with it. ;)

Actually, Compton is more Hispanic- 65%- and has as almost as many whites as blacks. The part of Compton you don't hear about is in the rich area abutting rancho Dominguez, and the address is actually in a "nicer" neighborhood. But the city government is as corrupt as any, which is why the have a sheriff dept, not a police department.
But doing a "drive by" in Compton usually entails a bit more (illegal) firepower than I currently own.
