Any long term unemployed people here?
Just wanted to see if things have changed socially for the long term unemployed since I went through it.
I can remember some friends and family back then who would invariably ask every time they seen me, "Have you gotten called back to work yet?"
Now they all knew I hadn't been, because these are the same people who would have been the first to hear if I had been recalled back to my job. And they weren't asking because they might know of a job somewhere or because they wanted to help in any way. They were just showing their concern, I guess?
Is that type of thing still going on today?
I suspect that it is.
Anyone else had this happen to them when out of work?
Don
Grouchy old Don, who retired from the automotive manufacturing business a few years ago at the age of 48--he put in his thirty years--was laid off various times during the late 1970s, and then was fully employed uninterruptedly 1981-2003.
But he still blames his lay-offs on Ronald Reagan.
This is a new campfire; only one primitive's been at it so far.

Fishing for another unemployed DUmmie so he can tell his relatives, "Well, I'm not the only one that's been getting unemployment checks long term."
As long as there is one more lazy DUmmie, he's not "The Only One".
