Well, not the whole finger...
From Associated Press 17 May 2012:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Michigan teen finishing off an Arby's roast beef sandwich chomped down on something tough that tasted like rubber, so he spit it out. Turns out it tasted like finger. The fleshy, severed pad of an unfortunate employee's finger, apparently. ...The employee apparently cut her finger on a meat slicer and left her station without immediately telling anyone... Her co-workers continued filling orders...

That's interesting.

I'm going to save a digitized copy of the article.

That's absoloutely nasty.

No introductory thread posts in the 4 that the probie has made. Just vetted him. Not a full vetting, but c'mon, we don't need that these days.

That's my fast food nightmare right there, dude bit into someones finger! This is my 1337 post, wondering if the leet member thing works.

It does.
You've now gotten the equivalent of what sailors get when they cross the equator for the first time, whatever ceremony that is.
Getting "leet" is an equivalent of that, on conservativecave.

BadCat, with 1319 posts, is next up to get "leet."
He's got 18 more comments to make

And I didn't have to suck a cherry out of a greased up fat guys navel, or get my ass whipped with fire hoses. I prefer the CC method.
It's the Shellback ceremony, I went through it on the USS Tripoli in 1985, it was brutal.

You're a pollywog until you do !

Never again! I'm still traumatized from my first experience.

The bad man made me touch him, down there.

I thought was just getting a bucket of water poured over one's head, nothing more than that.

Actually if you don't have your certificate of shellback, you have to produce it on demand, or suffer the whole indignation all over again.

Bring a salt shaker.

For his fingerfood ?

That's what they do now, after the Tailhook scandal, it used to be a lot more graphic. And disgusting.

They just do this thing when it's your first time crossing the equator on the Atlantic Ocean, right?
<<don't believe I've ever read about it happening on the Pacific or Indian Oceans.
-
I went to Arby's for lunch today. I almost wish I had bitten into a finger. It would have given my lunch some ****ing flavor. Someone must have pawned the salt shaker for some crack. I've never had such a dull meal.
Their onion rings are still pretty good.

I did all my floats in the Pacific and we always had a crossing the line ceremony.

Oh.

I know we have some Sailors on the site that can provide more detail, I was just an embarked Marine.
The ceremony used to get mean and nasty, it would start at 00:01 in the berthing spaces and continue throughout the day. Pollywogs (uninitiated) had to crawl everywhere while getting beatdown with fire hoses. I remember that it was bad for me because I had had a couple run-ins with a few Navy Master at Arms guys and they wanted to make me pay. We had to crawl through a lot of spoiled food and who knows what, to finally get the cherry from Davy Jones. I had red slashes on my ass for two weeks after the ceremony.

I apologize for derailing this thread.

I like the Arby's Chicken Salad Sandwich, it has grapes and pecans in it. Sounds kinda bad but it is actually very good, ask them to hold the fingers.
-
Oh.
Yes, the equator, anywhere in the world, while shipborne. Crossing it on land doesn't count.

You should have put the onion rings on the sandwich! :thatsright: Duh! :thatsright:

I apologize for derailing this thread.
It was Friday evening, and near the end of a slow day on conservativecave.
And this is the Lounge.
So one's free to be loose and easy and off-topic.
That's why the cooking and baking campfires from Skins's island are in the DUmpster usually on Friday and Saturday evenings; it's the weekend, everybody's laid back and mellow, &c., &c., &c.
Wretched Excess used to have a weekly Friday night Lounge thread that was highly popular, both here and back at our old home, but that tradition went away with Wretched Excess, who found other interests.

One good derail is worth a good re rail.

Back on subject, this finger thing is nothing to laugh at. That poor kid will have to be checked for Hep C and AIDS every year. Darn the woman that lost part of her finger cannot be forced to have 75 blood tests and they sure as heck are not going to cut off her head to check for rabies. Poor kid will be called a cannibal in school and asked what human flesh tastes like.
