Anti-choice group wants to end all legal access to birth control...
Advertisements [?]Edited on Wed May-14-08 10:04 PM by cynatnite
In recent years, some anti-abortion advocates have turned their attention to birth control -- not as a means to reduce unplanned pregnancies, but as another target of protest.

One of the most fervent anti-contraception crusaders is Pro-Life Wisconsin, which believes virtually all forms of birth control can cause a "chemical abortion" by preventing an already fertilized egg from implanting in the uterine wall.

The Brookfield-based group, along with the American Life League and Pharmacists for Life International associate groups, will take their protest to the streets June 7 with prayer vigils staged at family clinics around the country and state.

In Dane County, a prayer vigil will be held at 10 a.m. at the Planned Parenthood clinic on Orin Road in Madison, following Mass at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 120 W. Johnson St., at 8 a.m.

The protests, under the banner of "Protest the Pill Day '08: The Pill Kills Babies!" are timed to coincide with the 43rd anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision Griswold vs. Connecticut that established the right to birth control for married couples.

Apparently the DUmmies don't understand that hormonal birth control IS an abortifacent. But, nevermind the logic! Onto the ranting!

8. war kills babies

disease kills babies

They should protest that. Until they do they are the same as those woman haters in the polygamy cult.

It is mind boggling how they could be so against these small issues and ignore the real horror of the world as irrelevant or even good.

What puzzles me most of all are the women who are fighting for the chance to surrender their reproductive freedom to a bunch of 19th century men who want them to be no more than baby machines.

Huh??? Is it me, or is that logic flawed?

9. And if they managed to restrict or abolish birth control
I promise that the stigma that used to be attached to single mothers will return with a vengeance. My sister-in-law got pregnant in the mid-60s (she was 16) and did the 'right' thing and got married, but was still kicked out of high school. When a friend got pregnant in the early 1970s, she had to leave school once in became obvious she was pregnant (the teachers turned a blind eye as long as they could); they let her come back the next year, but she'd lost so many credits that she couldn't graduate.

These fundies have laid low for the last couple of decades about this--they'd rather tell girls that abortion is murder--but if they can cut off access to birth control, the bad old days will be back.

That's a load of crap! My mom graduated in 1960, and she used to tell me all the time about how many of her HS classmates got pregnant and married before graduation. She was the maid of honor in one of those weddings! Nobody got booted out of school...and this was a tiny town in PA.

12. You betcha. And that is their plan. It is always, always, about controlling women's lives. nt

13. Yup, no telling what those women will do if you don't keep them barefoot and pregnant. nt

Even barefoot and pregnant, I could still kick your ass.

18. The idea is to force women back into the home, force nuclear marriage, and turn the clock to 1950
They view this arrangement as good for America and good for the religon business.

I don't think there will necessarily be the backlash everyone here envisions if Roe is overturned, but if they fundies try to take the pill away, the GOP will be quickly removed from power permanantly. First and foremost, the Pill is a cash cow for Pharma. They're not going to roll over for the loss of billions.

20. Uggghhh
I'm sorry, but a multicellular blob does not a baby make. Do these fundie groups not know how many natural miscarriages there are annually? So are miscarriages "God's abortion"? How does this jive with their notion of a loving God? Holy ****. I would never imagine dictating what someone else does in their homes or with their bodies, so why do these fundies think they have the right to dictate ours? Earth to fundie dumbasses, studies are showing that abstinence only education does NOT decrease prevalence of STDs and only confuses kids about pregnancy (one article I read a while back stated that some kids believe drinking a shot of bleach will keep a girl from getting pregnant....  ). We need to educate people into making proper choices, and parents need to explain to their kids that sex, while a great thing, is something not to be taken upon lightly (Not brow beat the kids that sex is evil and will make your penis fall off).

24. It shocks me that people are capable of believing that fertilized eggs are "babies."
Where is their common sense? How can a person turn over all rational thought to their church with such utter abandon?!

A very good friend of our family recently had a miscarriage. She and her husband (who I have known since he was born) got unexpectedly pregnant while she was on the Pill. Although surprised, they were excited to find out they were expecting. Shortly after Christmas, she miscarried, and they were devastated. The doctor told her that it was most likely because SHE HAD BEEN ON THE PILL WHEN SHE GOT PREGNANT. She was far enough along that when she did pass the baby, it was recognizable.

I had an ultrasound at something like 4 weeks because I had some spotting and the doctor wanted to make sure that I wasn't having a miscarriage. That tiny 'blob' HAD A HEARTBEAT! She has one now, too...she's upstairs waking up as I type this. (And she sounds cranky. Yay!)

This has littleto do with religion, but has EVERYTHING to do with believing that LIFE is precious and begins when a sperm fertilizes an egg. Even if you take God out of the equation...why is it OKAY to kill something that has a heartbeat, even if it is gestating? Why is the life of a mink or a cow more important than the life of a human? Explain it to me.

To DUmmies it's all about women having complete control over their bodies..........at least for those DUmmies that can't control what's between their legs.

And if it's all us horrible menz fault they get pregnant and become enslaved due to kids, why don't they just cut us off? Just to simple, huh? .......and girls, I don't mean use a knife.  :o

The Alan Guttmacher Institute reports  (http://www.abortionfacts.com/statistics/world_statistics.asp)approximately 22 million legal abortions were reported in 1987.

It is estimated that between four and nine million were not reported, totaling of 26-31 million legal abortions in 1987 alone.

There were a total of 10-22 million "clandestine" abortions, bringing the total worldwide figure to 36 and 53 million abortions.

Having a child and not murdering it in the womb IS a choice DUmmies!!! It's a shame they can't see that it's the right choice and that murdering it should never be an option.
