Farewell, San Francisco USD
We tried. We really did. We enrolled our son at the local public school for kindergarten because we believed in the concept of the neighborhood school. We volunteered every chance we got for the regular student body and after-school program. We love our teacher who cares deeply for her kids and we love most of the kids and parents. But from the beginning of the school year right up to this point, administrators have been unwilling and unable to do anything about a small but significant core of students who bully my son (among others) and make it their mission to disrupt class. The principal is a foot-dragger who refuses to address issues until you go directly to the school board. The after school was a blessing and the best part of his day, but it was too small a portion to justify continuing to send him there.
SFUSD claims to have a anti-bullying policy, but their solutions based of "social and restorative" justice guarantee that the school day will be dominated by those who have no interest in learning or getting along with others, and the rights of others come second. So, we reached the VERY painful conclusion that a local parochial school will provide the environment the kid needs to focus on working in class without having someone grabbing it away, damaging it and coming back the next day to do it again. Yes, kids have a right to an education, but it should not supersede the rights of those who want to learn. SFUSD doesn't grasp this concept, so we are bidding them adieu.
See, it's OK when a liberal takes their kid out of public school and opts for religious school. It's when EVERYONE ELSE does it that causes the problem. How DARE he take food out of an NEA member's mouth by opting out of public education! (http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002695299)
And the reason for all this is, of course, shitheaded liberal values:

8. It's not happening at our school.

The district has a policy of "restorative justice" so suspension is a last resort, and no matter what measures they do take, the same kids keep doing the same things.
In other words, DON'T PUNISH A BULLY! That might hurt their FEEEEEELINGS!
How'd that work for you, DUmmy? Public education and its values in the most liberal city in the nation?
Idiot.

10. If you are Catholic, it will probably work out.
But I have to warn parents who are not Catholic about sending their child to a Catholic school. Some of those schools really put pressure on a child to become Catholic. This happened to one of my daughters in a Catholic kindergarten. At five, she came home and told me about a theological discussion she had with the nun in her kindergarten. Apparently my little five-year-old had held her own quite well, but I know of at least one other case of a teenager who ended up quite confused due to the fact that he was attending a Catholic school and learning a different theology at home. That's my only cautionary word. Just be sure that your child's religious training will be consistent at school and at home.
This comment could almost live as a bouncy itself. This primitive expects everyone to believe a five year old led a discussion with a Nun in a theological discussion. I'm afraid I will have to throw the bulls**t flag on this.

How dare they teach Catholic theology in Catholic schools! Bastards!

How is it the DUmmies see their policies don't work in their real, every day lives yet somehow think it will work on a national scale? I can't figure that out.

Lie Lie Lie!!!!!!!!
I went to Catholic School from 1st to 12th Grade, we had non-Catholics in our Schools and they were NEVER pressured to become Catholic. They participated in Mass and had to take Religion Class, but that was it.
ETA: Catholic Charities sends Missionaries to Africa, and the Catholic Church is 1 of the few Churches who help those in need and don't expect conversion to continue to help.

This was a good find, BFDU. No signs of Madfloridian or Proud2babitch or Pamela yet.

9. I had to do the same,
I will always fight for public education but I won't stand aside when my only kid is bullied.
By a teacher.
School choice for me, but not thee.

:lmao: We are Methodist but send our son to a private Catholic school. He comes home sometimes with some Catholic teachings and I tell him that is not what we do as Methodists. All you have to do is parent your child. It's not that hard.

Imagine if all parents had to cut a check for any school, public or private. Imagine how high the test scores would be then. After 18 years in education, I can say that the number one marker for student achievement is parent involvement.

My SIL, who was born Lutheran, is sending both of her daughters to a Catholic school. My wife is (still) Lutheran (a heluva lot more conservative than her sister!), I'm Catholic, and we agreed to send our daughter to a small Catholic primary school that is in its' early stages (it only goes to 4th grade so far). In my church's Music Department, our cellists are Methodists--and there's zero pressure on them to convert. (They're pretty good musicians, too, so that helps. ) Oh--I have put zero pressure on my wife to convert; it's something that she feels that she should do. Besides, Missouri Synod Lutheran is about as close to Roman Catholic as one can get.

Wow. Their kid didn't make it past kindergarten before they threw in the towel. Talk about weak.

:lmao:
My kids went to public schools their whole lives ... for the humor impaired.

their solutions based of "social and restorative" justice
Can someone translate this pile of goblety gook for me? My DUmbass to English translator is broken.

I interpret "social and restorative justice," apparently incorrectly, as applying to "reparations" for past wrongs done certain groups in America.
That's apparently a wrong interpretation, but I am getting tired of this "reparations" thing; ever since the Great Society of the 1960s, those who've been wronged in the past (or, more accurately, those with ancestors who were wronged in the past), have already gotten their "reparations," and more, in social services, food stamps, free medical care, whatnot. There's no longer any need to make up a historical shortfall by cutting them any more checks.
-

That's how I interpreted it as well, Frank. Certain groups can get away with murder, in the name of "social justice" and restoring past wrongs, or something. Perfect for San Fransicko. I'm a little surprised the thread over there didn't turn into a bitchslap fest.

I call bullshit.

We've been saying this about real-world crime and national defense/foreign policy for years.

Ah, got it, that makes sense.
Looks like the DUmmie is reaping what he has sown and doesn't quite like the taste.

Who knows: This could be a turning point for the DUmmy in question. When he realizes that the ideas of "Social and restorative justice" that enabled the bullying in that school to continue relatively unchallenged are LIBERAL concepts, and that the implementation of "Restorative justice" used in our criminal justice system (Where it was first designed to be used by the liberal "Intellectuals" who came up with that concept) by liberal lawyers and judges has enabled countless violent gang members, sex offenders (Especially child molestors), and other such vermin to be allowed back on the streets with nothing more than a slap on the wrist to resume preying on innocent people, it just might make him start to realize how intensely flawed liberal philosophies in general can be.
I can hope, can't I?

Reading what's written between the lines in invisiable ink.....
"I went down to sons school and this wierd, queer, dude in leather was his teacher. I'm not a bigot. Some of my best friends are queer...but this is "MY" son."

I interpret "social and restorative justice," as failing test scores in math, science, history, and English.

I attended a Catholic High School, a Catholic college for my first degree, and I am attending a Catholic college for my second degree, and I have never been pressured to change my religion. I have had truly wonderful discussions with religion professors, and I've had many people assume that I was Catholic, but at no point have I ever felt that my religious viewpoint was being disrespected, other than potentially by other classmates but they usually weren't Catholic either.

The Charlotte N.C. school board is, or was, about to pass a thing where no student would get a grade lower than a 50 even if they made a 0 (zero). Their thinking was that they didn't want to embarrass or discourage failing students to give up completely and drop out....HUH?

Oh, gag me.
There are articles and books written about this ineffective school management system. Social and restorative justice is a passive way for administration and direct contact staff to remain sitting on their butts and spout a new vocabulary while not solving anything. Basically a conflict resolution method that does more to guilt the good kid and escalate the bullies behaviors. But, hey, at least they can "frame" it now.

I'd rather they fram it up their collectivist ass.

You got it Reb! It's only important if it's happening to them.
Back in my day, if you were caught bullying another kid ya got yer ass whooped!
Liberals have fixed that.
You no longer have to be responsible for your actions, since what the hell are they gonna do? Hell, a paper cut nowadays will have 5 slip and fall lawyers on your front porch within minutes!
Your own children can have you arrested for kickin' their ass cause ya caught 'em in the cookie jar!

Reminds me of the Prius/Pius episode of South Park where Kyle's family move to San Francisco and enjoy the smell of their own farts.

The christian school my wife and are thinking about sending our daughter to is a non-denominational. I am attending a catholic college. I have found no issues with either, and I am a baptist. I think people will find anything to complain about. Most do it as a authority stance. They think they are above everyone, and people should carry the piss bucket for them.
